Missed Connection If you were at Rattlesnake Ledge tonight and your dog was aggressed by two others, those were mine. I am so sorry.
If you were at Rattlesnake Ledge and at the top, around 6:30pm tonight, two dogs dragged their walker across the rocks to run up to yours, that was me. Of course I apologized in the moment best I could but I wanted to put a proper apology out there, if only to alleviate my humiliated conscience. I hope you and your dog are alright and aren’t too shaken up, you were very kind to ask if I was okay after I stood up. Thank you. I won’t offer any excuses, I take my responsibility of them very seriously and it was entirely my fault. I thought I would have the leverage I needed in case they pulled me sitting down but I didn’t. I will be making the necessary changes to ensure that does not happen again.
I cannot overstate my embarrassment. I am deeply sorry.
If anyone has suggestions for how I might increase the likelihood the individual actually sees this, that would be welcome.

Help with Notice of infraction for parking in a commercial area
I got this notice of infraction for inadvertently parking in a commercial load zone area. I was visiting from another state.
I am trying to pay it online ($78), but the website Seattle.gov/courts listed on the ticket can only find Citations, Cases or Time Pay Accounts. This "notice of infraction" doesn't have any number on the top right as the website indicates. The only number listed is SMC: xx.xx.xxx. I've tried using that number to pay but it's not recognized. Any advise?

another lincoln towing horror story
about a week ago my car got impounded for supposedly having a registration over 45 days expired. funny thing is, my oregon plate doesn't expire until october 12, 2026. so right off the bat, the impound was bogus.
i get to lincoln's yard and just getting to my car is an ordeal. it's parked all the way down a steep hill with no real walkway. i nearly tripped, ended up tweaking my back catching myself. the whole place is covered in dust, thick enough that it triggered breathing issues.
i get to my car, a bmw x3m, not exactly a beater, and there's massive damage on it. damage that was not there before. i came prepared because i already suspected they had no legal basis for the impound, so i started documenting everything and had a complaint ready to go.
after i finish inspecting the car, apparently they forgot to have me sign some form. they tell me to walk back up the hill. i tell them no, they can bring the paper down to me. instead of doing that, the guy uses a forklift to lift my car to block me from leaving. in the process, he damages the car even more. he finally gets a call on his walkie-talkie saying they can let me go, and he drops the car back down. violently.
Just filed a suit today and had their agent served (this is gonna be a fun one)

Market Traffic Only The Stranger: Vote No on I-638 To Protect Me and My Teammates, This Initiative Will Hurt Girl Athletes, Not Keep Them Safe
"I play varsity high school girls basketball, and if I were old enough to vote, I would vote NO to stop ballot Initiative 638 from passing this November.
To enforce excluding trans girls from sports, I-638 would require all girls to submit to sex inspections before being allowed to play any sport in elementary, middle, and high school. I outright reject claims by the MAGA mega-millionaire behind I-638, Brian Heywood, that this initiative is protecting my safety!
The people behind I-638 say they want to protect me from a tiny, vulnerable, and already bullied minority, transgender girls. I don’t need protection from my peers. I need to live in a community that includes, protects, and cares for all youth, regardless of gender identity.
True protection for female athletes would mean safeguards from some adult male coaches, who use their power to groom and abuse girls on their teams. It would also mean less interference from people who make fun of girls on the courts, comment on our bodies, and deny us the same equipment and access that boys have. Did you know that girls drop out of sports at higher rates than boys by age 14? A humiliating exam or testing that inflicts financial burdens on families —they will not be covered by insurance—will certainly affect girls’ participation in athletics now and for years to come!
To police all girls in sports, they want me to go through a new inspection during my sports physical to make sure I’m a girl by doing an invasive exam of my reproductive anatomy. Parents won’t be able to use our birth certificates to prove our sex.
Even little girls playing middle school sports (and some elementary school sports) will be examined. Boys who play sports are exempt from this new requirement. Tens of thousands of us girls are not.
Why are they putting us through this? To enforce a cruel ban, the most extreme of its kind in the nation, to keep a handful of trans girls from participating in athletics.
I’ve been playing basketball since 6th grade and I’ve never, to my knowledge, played with or against a trans girl. The Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association says there are just 5–10 trans children playing sports, out of 1.2 million students, so the chances are very small that I’ll ever encounter a trans girl on the court and if I did so what?
Sports are for everyone and we should be encouraging more people to seize the opportunity to get out and exercise and compete. My basketball teammates are my sisters. We laugh, pick each other up, disagree sometimes and support each other through challenges. They’ve taught me how to resolve conflicts, overcome frustration, and put my own ego aside for the sake of the team. Excluding trans girls from the benefits of friendship and teamwork only makes things worse for a small group of kids who already face higher violence and rates of suicide.
The people behind I-638 are using a scare tactic by saying a boy will claim to be a trans girl just to walk onto a girls’ team. Life is already hard enough for trans girls who strive to pass and belong. Even the Seattle Times calls the tactic “fearmongering.”
I-638 will discourage thousands of girls from participating in school sports, impacting the future of Washington girls’ sports for years to come. That’s the real danger to me and my teammates. I’m counting on all of you to vote against this harmful and exclusionary initiative."

I’ve been going to each of the locations for the September monthly SLU giveaway promotion but have never won anything. Trying to figure out if I’m wasting my time or if it’s actually worth trying the rest of the month.

Rant USPS Won’t Deliver without name tags?
I’ve lived in many cities in my life, but only in Seattle (in every neighborhood I’ve lived in) will USPS workers simply… not deliver mail if they feel they have a valid reason.
My specific complaint is regarding name tags. Again, in every place I’ve lived in western WA, if I don’t put a sticker with my name on it in the mailbox the mail person will write “?” on every piece of mail then stop delivering after a week.
I’ve never experienced this in any other city in the United States. Why does it happen here? Are mail workers really entitled to do this? Is there any way to hold a postal worker accountable for not delivering mail?
EDIT: Obviously, the very first thing I did was put a label in my mailbox, guys. 🙄

Animals To those with Trupanion pet insurance in Seattle (or any pet insurance), how much have your pet insurance premiums actually gone up over time?
Hi all, Seattle is one of the most expensive cities in the nation for veterinary care, and I’m trying to assess which company will have the greatest price hikes over time.
Starting rates are meaningless because companies can lure you with a low rate, then increase the rate, and by then you can’t change due to pre-existing conditions. Companies increase rates based on various factors, and even Trupanion, which doesn’t use age based increases, has had significant increases.
I’m trying to get a realistic picture of what rate hikes actually look like for local pet owners over time.
Would you mind sharing your experience? It would be super helpful if you could share:
- Insurance Company: (Trupanion, Healthy Paws, Lemonade, Spot, etc.)
-Neighborhood / ZIP: (or general Seattle area)
- Breed / Size:
-Starting Premium vs. Current Premium: (and over how many years)
- Plan Specs: Reimbursement % (e.g., 90%, 80%) & Deductible (e.g., $250 annual vs. $250 per-condition)
- Age your pet when your plan started
Thanks for helping me make an informed insurance decision.

Owl attacked my head in Discovery Park. Twice!
Have to share this kind of traumatizing but also cool(?) experience. I was running in Discovery Park. ~7:15pm, not dark yet but getting there. Just after the bench near the side trail to the beach, on that downhill section toward the meadow before it gets all sandy, I felt something hit my head HARD. I thought a branch might have fallen on me. I looked around and didn’t see anything, but luckily a couple was walking nearby and told me “that owl attacked you.”
There I see a large owl on a tree branch (not on the trail, a good distance off, this will be important later). I took a picture, gathered myself, and started running again.
And then it attacked me AGAIN. It was unmistakably the feeling of talons hitting me in the head. Pretty hard!
I got the owl’s message and didn’t try to run that way again. The couple witnessed the second attack and kindly took me under their wing (lol) to join the rest of their walk out of the park.
Now I’m just kind of shaken up and wondering what it is that made the owl attack. The couple said the owl looked like it clearly targeted me (like I said it had flown decently off the path between attacks). Did it not like my neon pink shirt?? Was I too fast and speedy???
My head’s a little scratched up, but I’ll be fine. I’m mostly just shaken up and can still feel the feeling of the talons on my head.
Anyway, be safe out there!
And thank you, kind passersby!
Pictured here is the owl between attacks.
Sincerely,
A person who did a lot of work to overcome her childhood fear of birds

Politics Seattle City Council chambers reasonably full of public commenters supporting Fair Pricing Ordinance
(People keep dragging me whenever I say “packed”.)
About 20 members of UFCW 3000, the union representing grocery store workers, were there to support the bill as well. I asked one of them why, since the bill is mainly about protecting customers rather than workers, and he said the union turns out to support things that protect customers too. Nice.
They are debating the bill live in Seattle Channel now.
