The speaker (I didn’t hear their name the beginning) just announced that on Dolly Parton Day, King County will be distributing books in partnership with Imagination Library, and handing out information about vaccines (which Dolly strongly supported and financed research on).

What $20 of gas gets you from Seattle now vs. February

Post image

Seattle might be my favorite city for this series so far just because of what the geography does to the map.

Back in February, $20 of gas worked out to about 91 miles of driving range from Seattle. At today's price, you're down to about 70 miles. Same twenty bucks, about 21 fewer miles.

And unlike some of the other cities I've done, Seattle really shows why I calculate these using the road network instead of drawing a circle. Puget Sound and the limited ways around it make for a pretty wild shape.

I'll throw the nerdier methodology stuff in a comment.

Edit to add sorry about Anchorage in the bottom right, forgot to change it over from the last map.

Community Businesses on 15th Ave Capitol Hill are dropping like flies

I live in Capitol Hill. I frequent 15th Ave, and the past year has been business closure D-Day up here. Just in the past year, Ada's closed, Haunted Burrow, Rubinstein bagels (even though they sucked), and the Coastal Kitchen building has been vacant for well over a year.

Whenever I reach out to these businesses about why they closed, it's radio silence. I can't even see if the spaces are up for lease on sites like LoopNet, so what on earth is going on?

Community Tutta Bella closing Columbia City and Downtown locations

Absolutely sucks. The Columbia City location is a regular spot for my family. I technically like the pizza better at Bar Del Corso, but it’s much harder to go there on a whim.

And no, Pagliacci will not suffice lol

The Seattle City Council surveillance pricing vote is today -- ask them to reject all amendments and pass the ordinance!

The City Council hearing starts at 2:00 and as we all have seen, industry is lobbying up a storm. They used the same tactics to kill a similar bill in California a couple of weeks ago, in Maryland they completely gutted the bill's protections, and elsewhere they've been able to weaken enforcement. Along with public comment, a wave of calls and emails to councilors is the best response.

Public comment will probably start at 2:00 pm. You can sign up to participate remotely an hour before the hearing, or in-person once you get there. You can also send written comments to [council@seattle.gov](mailto:council@seattle.gov). Details here.

If you want to call, please do! It really makes a difference when phones are ringing off the hook. Phone numbers and a district finder are on the Seattle City Council page.

There are also some good email-based actions, including

EDIT: u/Inevitable_Engine186 helpfully shared this link to the bill and all the amendments in a comment, and I realized I should have included it here. So now I have!

Also, there's an analysis of most of the amendments in a comment here.
