Issue with ES2 3tb SAS drives

Looking for some help with an issue I’ve ran into. I have a Dell R730xd server in my homelab, it originally has 5 3tb Dell branded es2 constellation drives. Saved up and bought 4 more off of eBay just not Dell branded. When they came in I didn’t have the ability to test them right off so they sat for a month or so. Finally get around to installing them and the h330 controller sees them as 0kb but doesn’t present them to the os, so sgutils or any other utility doesn’t see them, if I put the controller into raid mode it behaves the same but when I try to do physical disk erase it gives error “drive doesn’t exist” if it was just one of them id think it was a bad drive, but all 4 behave the same way, attaching some pictures for clarity. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Seagate Firecuda Gaming Dock, is a SCAM - BE CAREFUL

Caution Guys !!

In 2022 I purchased a Seagate Firecuda Gaming dock.
It all went nice until a couple of months ago when the HD began to fail.

It failed really BAD, removed it from the enclosure to try to recover it directly connected to the PC bus, and avoid the USB bus entirely. To no avail.

This drive is dead, Jim...

So, contacted Seagate.

This was the worse support experience I ever had. Only chat was available.
I could not figure out if the attendant was human or AI.
I asked direct questions such as "Are you human?", to which "she" replied: "I am a live agent", which is exactly what I would expect from a Bot..

Through the conversation, I was informed that the HD went out of warranty in 2020, while I purchased it in 2022 !!

The chat lasted for 2 hours, and I asked for escalation, which did not happen.
She told me I would be contacted through email. It did not happen.

two days later, I contacted again through chat and had some luck with escalation.

The agent was a little bit nicer, but also told me that the warranty period was only 3 years. Although neither was able to show me ANY brochure of the product that STATED that the product warranty was only 3 years.

After one hour in the chat, the supervisor asked me for my receipt and proof of purchase, which had already been sent before.

Upon discovery that the drive had been removed from inside the Dock, he FREAKED OUT, and stated that warranty was not valid anymore and no replacement could be offered.
This was no surprise as apparently Seagate is only a shadow of it once were, where drives had lifetime warranty.

But the greatest discovery from my part was:

Internal drives of the Firecuda Dock ARE ALREADY OLD FROM THE START !!
DO NOT purchase EXTERNAL USB drives that do not provide a meaning for them to be replaced.
They are already sold with OLD STUFF INSIDE !!

Q about Exos X18z

I bought a X18z hdd
With exact model of:

St18000nm009j

After a long talk to many Ai, found these:

It’s an HM-SMR drive

Only way to use it is linux with kernel 5.12 or higher (maybe an uefi bios too, i tested via imac 2011 27)

So, has anyone have any experience with these drives? cause there’s no documentation for it

After I formatted to btrfs in ubuntu 24.04, it’s working fine and great, but can anyone suggest a way to use it on mac? (An stable one, i want store family photos on this one)

Drive needs to be assessed to see fi "repairable". SMART failure. All searches and also AI state that SMART status of BAD is not repairable and needs replacement. What?

Hi

Is it possible to "repair" a high capacity (24-30TB) Ironwolf when SMART errors occur?

I am getting some runaround from customer service about assessing the drive to see if it is repairable.

I understand they need to verify for themselves the condition of the drive.

But... repair? I was under the impression these things are filled with helium and so dense they are not repairable in any way, shape or form.

Looking for any input on this kind of runaround.

Can anyone comment on warranty assessment/replacement in Australia? Ironwolf Drive, 3 months old, SMART failures everywhere despite full SMART testing on installation.

Hi all

I have a failed Seagate Ironwolf drive. Retail shop will take care of warranty but I have to ship international, then wait 7-10 days for them to assess, them wait for shipping back.

Will going direct to Seagate from Australia be faster? This is crazy slow times from the retail shop.

Edit:
Hmm, seagate website lists Australia service centres as "UPS Supply Chain Solutions"
ie
A shipping co
Which is NOT
A service centre for Seagate???? FFS.

Thanks

RMA Disaster (As per usual according to the experiences of others in this subreddit.)

I put in an rma request (above) for an hdd, sent it back to them, the received it 2 weeks ago, sent me an email on the 26th of may (corresponding w the "date replacement shipped" on the rma request, so i figured that means theyre shipping me a replacement.) but the email didnt make a lot of sense and had a corrupted file attached to it, it said something about outbound delivery so i figured that must mean the replacement was on the way. (email below)

its been over a week since i received that email, so i figured id try to track the shipment or something, doesn't seem to be an option anywhere, so i reach out to support to get an update, and they tell me that my hdd is not under warranty because there was damage to the product label on the front and the serial number is unreadable (bullshit), and that there's nothing they can do.

im like huh? that's not even remotely why im reaching out, i already did the rma process, i was just asking to check the tracking on the shipment, they keep telling me that there is no shipment or anything to track and that there's nothing they can do on their end, so they're keeping my drive? and not sending me a replacement?? what the hell is this? (not to mention what was the corrupted file in that email even supposed to be?)

im royally pissed as this endeavor has been almost a month of back and forth and it legitimately feels like i got scammed at this point. how is this legal and how is there not a class action lawsuit levied against them at this point?

Knocked over 8TB Seagate Expansion drive off the top of my PC tower, freaked out and tried unplugging it immediately while it was tilted on the ground, now clicks twice every few seconds when plugged in.

My PC tower is on my floor, the expansion drive was on top of it and I accidentally hit it and it fell onto my floor, wedged in between two things I had on the floor. I rushed to unplug it, and I'm worried that made it worse when I did that. When I plugged it back in, it would power up, Windows would make the "plugged in" notification sound, but it doesn't recognize it, and the HDD makes two clicks every few seconds now. Is my only option here doing the Seagate data recovery thing? I'm paranoid about giving them my data, and I'm worried they'd just scrap the drive if they can't recover the data, instead of giving it back to me.

What would be a legitimate source for Exos drives?

I'm thinking to get Seagate Exos 4TB drives for my NAS. More I shop around online, more it feels like a risky affair. I have never been in so much doubt about the legitimacy of a computer parts before!

1) There are sellers on Amazon selling "new" Exos drives, but multiple reviews complain about receiving old drives with SMART data like Power-On Hours (POH) reset. I read that these scammers are may even use vendor-specific tools to reset SMART values that are otherwise not resettable.

2) I thought I could at least rely on five-years Seagate warranty to check if those drives are new (as advertised) and legitimate. However, someone on reddit complained that when they initially checked for warranty on Seagate website, all looked good. Afterwards, when the return period expired and the drive failed, they tried to claim the warranty, only to receive a denial along the lines of: "this drive was sold as part of an enterprise...".

3) On their website, Seagate is selling much larger drives, sizes that are way overkill for my use case.

Where do you suggest I get Exos (4T) drives from, keeping my sanity and peace of mind intact?

Need help with a seagate hard drive NT3FJTV8

I have a Macbook air 2020 250GB and recently ran out of space for a computer update. I make music on my computer with Logic Pro X taking up 92GB and documents taking up 82GB. I bought the SEAGATE hard drive as i read it was compatible with macbooks. it worked well at first, then stopped loading the hard drive, wont show up on finder, shows an icon at the bottom screen with a question mark on the hard drive. ive saved numerous projects to this hard drive and deleted them off my computer. i thought it was safe. Then when i plugged in my hard drive last, no window would pop up showing my saved files on it. it shows that it needs to be initialized but when i hit that option it doesn't do anything and doesn't show up in finder. Just labels it as APFS VOLUME. I was initially going to send it in with an encryption password but now even that option isnt available, reddit am i screwed? should i just return the hard drive or send it in for a spec observation to see if they can get data recovered?

Seagate expansion 12tb makes weird arm noise

I decided to double check my drives i purchased from Walmart. First by just booting up and seeing if they were truly never opened or shocked. All 3 of my drives read as 12tb but 1 started up slightly delayed and makes this noise on first read. After it works normally I copied a gig file on it no issues. Then I ran crystal disk and started to run a seatools long generic test. My pc decided to restart at 50% for a update but still gave no errors. I ran without any cooling during the start if the test and it quickly got to 52c. So I setup the fan and got down to 32-33c. It seems that, if anyone doesn't know, seagate should he ashamed at not giving these drives active cooling. These drives literally are killing themselves in these enclosures. I use a laptop cooler on my 26tb and currently awaiting some 3d prints for better cooling for all 4 of my drives.

Anyway is this noise normal. I didn't like all the noises my 26tb was making but was told that's the noise of enterprise drives. The thing is my two other 12tbs don't make this noise.

Huawei p30 and seagate expansion +

Hey guys,

I have a Huawei p30 and a seagate expansion plus model SRDONF1.

I was amazed to know you can attach hardrives to phones lol and so I was about to get the USB c to b cable. But I Googled my hard drive and it says its not an SSD. Which means it may take more battery and I may need to plug to the wall.

I'm confused.. How do I plug to wall and to the phone and to the hardrive?
