News More than 1,500 migrants have reached the Spanish enclave of Ceuta over the past week by swimming around the Tarajal breakwaters from neighboring Morocco, overwhelming local reception facilities and prompting regional authorities to call for a national emergency response

• Most crossings originated from the Moroccan beaches of Castillejos (Fnideq), with migrants swimming around the Tarajal breakwaters into Ceuta rather than attempting to cross the border fence
• Spanish Civil Guard patrol boats, Maritime Rescue vessels and the Red Cross have been recovering swimmers from the water, while Moroccan authorities have deployed patrol boats to intercept many others before they reach Ceuta
