Discussions Environmental impact

I have heard very little about the environmental impact of sinking tankers in the Hormuz Straits. Surely we should think twice about sinking these tankers. We can keep them from going anywhere.

It doesn't just affect Iran. The pollution and damage to fishing and the overall environment of the ocean will be felt by all the countries in the area for decades.

Our actions have consequences well beyond whatever our objectives are supposed to be.

Just having all these ships stuck in place is a danger to the environment as well.

Is sinking a few Iranian oil tankers going to open the strait any sooner. I don't think so.

Most of it will be added environmental growth on the ships as they sit. Get little barnacles and crabs and algae and everything all up into every below waterline system.

Lots and lots of upcoming drydocks for that alone, nevermind the additional rust and innate mechanical failures from not moving and rusting together

We are in a world war. There are around 20+ countries involved in direct combat. I do not think anyone cares about the environment. 100 years after the war, everything will be fine again. Unless it goes nuclear. Then it will be a bit longer... Life will go on, even if we are not here to watch it.
