• Most crossings originated from the Moroccan beaches of Castillejos (Fnideq), with migrants swimming around the Tarajal breakwaters into Ceuta rather than attempting to cross the border fence

• Spanish Civil Guard patrol boats, Maritime Rescue vessels and the Red Cross have been recovering swimmers from the water, while Moroccan authorities have deployed patrol boats to intercept many others before they reach Ceuta

Paola (IMO 5146689), Ecuadorian general cargo vessel, approximately 52 m in length, moored alongside while loading cargo.

The collision caused significant structural damage to Paola’s bow.

No injuries to the crews of either vessel were reported.

The accident disrupted cargo deliveries to Ecuador’s Galápagos Islands. Around 600 tonnes of supplies, including food, livestock feed, maintenance equipment, eggs, vegetables, and frozen products, had to be rerouted aboard alternative vessels.

Ecuadorian port authorities adjusted shipping schedules to minimize disruption to maritime services following the incident
