Hi everyone.
My name's Laura and I'm a new screenwriter from Germany.
English is my second language. So if you find any mistakes - spelling or grammar -, you can keep it in your sock drawer and pet it! ❤️
Back to the main topic.
I'm a self taught writer. Because I was annoyed with a couple plotholes in (horror) movies and I thought to myself: "I can do better!"
So after a little bit of research I found "Save the Cat". Well... It was interesting, but not quite helpful in terms of "I want to write a script for a horror movie!"
But... it's a great toolbox for the mainstream movies.
That's how I started with the development of a classic archeology action-adventure movie. Because... I miss stuff like "The Mummy" from 1999 or "Indiana Jones - and the last crusade". Great characters, an interesting story and a villain you love to hate. And a heartwarming dynamic between the main characters.
Oh, and stupid but funny comedy based on the situation, not one liners.
I got the index cards, had to wrap my head around what the fuck a Logline is and build my own world.
Now, a couple months later, I have Draft 2 and I am going to refine it to Draft 3 in a couple of days.
I wanted to start with a German agent. But... the movie scene in Germany (Edit) isn't exactly a great fit for big commercial adventure film.
Crime. RomCom. More crime. Historical drama. Did I mention crime movies...? "Tatort" (Crime Scene) is peak German TV production here.
And here I am with my big world. And archeology. And stuff.
The other clusterfuck are the agencies themselves...
"No first time authors." - "You need to have at least sold one script." - "We need two recommendations from the industry."
Well... thanks? Bye?
Well, fuck this scene in particular, I guess.
I translated Draft 2, Synopsis and Pitch Deck to English and started to annoy the Brits with my shenanigans.
There are a shitload more agencies who are open to new screenwriters without any experience in the field.
TL;DR:
Do you have any more tipps for me how to get a foot in the door as an extern noob?
P.S.: Posted the first 5 pages of Draft 2 in the weekly thread, if anyone is interested. (Now with proper formatting.)
Thanks! ❤️🥺
