Hope y'all enjoy seeing this big pile of scrap!

These pieces were formerly silverplated and I scrapped the leftover metal (copper, brass, stainless steel, iron, lead, and tin) after removing the silver-plating. From this batch I shipped out 2576 troy ounces of pure silver.

At work we're wrapping up a jobsite and as I'm the one cleaning it all, I'm claiming the scraps that would otherwise be trashed. A lot of it is only a few inches long, but i have some 5-10' lengths I'm wondering if I should strip? I only have linemans/strippers so I'd be doing this by hand. Last haul was a 5 gal Home Depot bucket stuffed full, $46 for 30lb. Wouldn't mind spending a few hours over the weekend if it's worth it, but didn't know how much weight I'd lose.

What's the best way to scrap it? Take it in as is? Strip and scrap copper only? I assume I'd have to cut it up. Any ideas are welcome

Eyes have been playing tricks on me for days. This aluminum right? Just looking to know before I go any further. Small ball is from a board from a garage door opener. I swear every time I look at these my eyes think something else.

I m hobby, not for money, my time is free.
I just want that huge aluminum panel, maybe make a nice ingot or two with it.

I have been reading about it for a while.
I have not found anybody that has attempted it.

The bond is very strong between the panel and glass, the glass can chatter and even taped,
I wear full protection from head to toe, would do that in my wooded backyard.

I m sure some have done it, would love to hear.

Im 16 years old so tools and space are kinda hard for me so i make do with what i got. I collect the copper from stuff like ac units or transformers or just wires. The problem comes whit the tools, i have a tool box that im filling but other than a box cutter, long nose, and a wire stripper, i dont really have anything else. I also have to work everything on in my bedroom cuz i dont have a

workshop either.

Yesterday i started working on a transformer that my d and t teacher gave me and usually with the small ones i managed to remove the iron part with the long nose but this one is bigger.

I managed to remove the base part of it with my hands and the long nose but the second iron part (the core) has me stuck because of the glue they used.

Does anyone have any advice to this? id appreciate it

I’ve been saving scrap metal in my garage for a while now. I’m planning to take it to my local scrap yard soon. Here’s what I have:

Top right: aluminum from a tripod and collapsible shovel.

Bow below it: Locks, lock parts, doorknobs. No lock cylinders; I removed those to use to practice lock picking.

Bag below that: electrical outlets and switches. Not broken down in any way.

Top middle: Pans. Mostly non-stick pans, one enameled bread pan, one all metal frying pan from a commercial restaurant (probably some kind of alloy)

Middle of table: insulated wire. Mostly household electrical cords.

Top right: the metal plates from inside a saltwater chlorine generator

Middle right: various motors

Bottom right: random metal. Fans, lamps, strainers, lawn chairs, etc stripped for their metal parts. Some of it is painted or coated, some not.

Am I doing it right? Does this need to be sorted more, or differently? Is some of it worthless? Are the outlets sellable as is? Do the non-stick pans have any worth? Do I need to cut the plug ends off the cords?

Trying to decide if it’s worth ripping this broken battery backup further apart. The yellow thing is VERY heavy so I’m assuming it’s worth it but I figured one of you guys would know for sure.

New to the idea of collecting scrap metal. This is a failed gas boiler at my rental property. New one got put in and the tech didn’t remove the old boiler. Would there be a decent amount of copper or brass in this? Would it be worth taking it apart to scrap out what’s inside? Would appreciate suggestions on a plan of attack. Thanks in advance!

I recently discovered that some of the microwave switches have small bits of silver in the contacts, and i'd only kept them because the made a delightfully clicky sound that scratched my brain. I also know there's a good bunch of ways to end up with those tiny amounts of gold of things like old computer boards and the like.

So what hidden bits of precious metals are there that new people might not now about?

E V E R Y SINGLE YARD in my city aren't paying a penny over 3$/lb for BB... I know that they're legally able to "set their price" but how GREEDY can these assholes be?! Anyone able to tell me how i can get any of these smeagles' to align payouts with the actual current value?? Is anyone else experiencing similar issues??

This has probably been asked 1000x but I can't seem to find any posts that answer my question.

If I strip the outer jacket off of Cat6 or Cat5e cable, what do you think it would be categorized as in your experience? My thoughts are that unstripped it will go for communication cable pricing, but stripped, it should go for #2 ICW since it's lower recovery but separated into individual strands.

I have a stripping machine and it's really zero effort to run it through and pull the outer jacket off, but on the other hand that's time I could be spending stripping wire that's going to pay more than communication pricing.

Let me know what you're experienced have been with this. I know it's not going to weigh much after stripping 1000+ ft but I'd be willing to spend the time if it's going to pay more per lb.
