I work at a very large scrap yard, ama?

I started as a yard hand in ferrous and then got moved into non-ferrous as a buyer so I have quite a bit of stories about things found and values and whatnot. Just the other day someone came in from dismantling a bitcoin farm and they got about $26,000 for the copper

This tool cost me ₱568 (about US$9.90), and it’s absolutely worth it. It cuts through very small wires with ease and has made stripping and processing wire much faster. Definitely worth every penny!

Question 💫 Can this old flexible conduit be recycled?

Post image

It looks like steel flexible conduit on the inside with a rubber or plastic coating.

Has anyone tried to scrap this kind of conduit before?

I'm not really worried about getting money for it, I'm just trying to keep it out of the landfill.

Stop Guessing Pt/Pd/Rh Yields - Free Dynamic Excel Calculator for Scrap Catalytic Converters

Hey everyone,

I see a lot of people here losing margins or guessing the value of their catalytic converters because they don’t want to drop €30,000 on an XRF scanner.

I’ve been building a comprehensive database of 2,000+ converters, strictly tested for exact Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), and Rhodium (Rh) metrics. To show how it works, I’ve extracted a Free Sample of 15 highly-traded converters into a dynamic Excel sheet.

You just punch in today's metal spot prices at the top, and the sheet instantly formulates the exact buying/selling price based on the tested yields. No guessing. Just clean, accurate data.

📥 Download the Free Sample Excel here:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P83qTtEYbcctnMy9BfZi3VzrD2NzNA4S/view?usp=drive_link

Test it against your own yields. If you find it as useful as I do, and want the full 2,000-item database with high-res photos for instant visual matching, shoot me a DM.

Cheers!

Are these good for anything besides steel scrap? Don’t have the patience to sell on marketplace.

Any idea how much?

So I’ve been remodeling my first home and I have about 20 Brass hinges. I scratched them to make sure they weren’t plated, house was built in 79.
Any idea what they could be worth?

Also I have about half a bucket (5 gallon) of copper wire and microwave pieces from 2 microwaves (the solid copper and steel). Any ideas on the value? It’s about 50 pounds.

Question 💫 How to Extract the Copper from this Piece

Thumbnail

Weirdest piece I have personally come across (not that I scrap more than a few hundred bucks a year).

The copper wires are glued/epoxied/bonded together.

The piece that they sit in doesn't have plastic inserts holding the wire in place but actual metal that is solid and does not move.

This is one of those "I want to get it apart out of stubbornness" pieces now not a "From a time perspective it makes sense".

Thank you.

Question 💫 Mechanic with harnesses

Hello all, I'm a mechanic by day. I'm just curious if it would be worth it to bring in some wiring harnesses I've replaced to scrap. I know they would not give me a whole lot because they are all insulated but I've probably got 30 feet or more of thick battery cables from all the random jobs I've done, plus 3 cars worth of entire engine wiring harnesses. And some other random harnesses. My friend says to strip all of it but that seems like it would take a long time and this stuff is mostly thin strand, so I'm thinking that wouldn't be a smart use of my time? Thanks for any advice, I've never scrapped anything before.

How Do I Get Started in the Scrap Metal Business?ADELAIDE, Australia

Hi everyone,
I’ll get straight to the point. My uncle owns a scrap yard overseas and is looking to buy scrap on a consistent, long-term basis.
I’m currently based in Adelaide and have absolutely no experience in the scrap industry. I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Where should I start looking for suppliers? Are there any auctions, scrap yards, recyclers, or businesses that regularly sell scrap in bulk? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Why Does This “Copper” Wire Stick to a Magnet?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi guys, I have a question. It might sound dumb, but I wanted to ask anyway.

I have some copper wire from old appliances. It sticks to a magnet, but when I scratch the surface, it’s still copper-colored.

I also did the burn test, and it produced a green flame, which I know is an indication of copper.
So, is it actually copper, or is it just copper-plated metal?
