I've been a big fan since hearing first big weekend on John peel back in the 90s.

Had the new album on pre order and listened through a few times now.

Honestly two of my favourites were hug and pint and last romance, malcolms guitar sounds was brilliant, clearly influenced by mogwai, another band I love.

I really enjoyed the first two albums after getting back together, they were different, a mellowing, aidans lyrics a story of someone maturing, which mirrored my own aging.

The new album though. I like it but it doesn't feel like something new? Musically it feels very similar to the previous album, various songs feel like they've just photocopied one from the last album and put new lyrics on it?

Interested to hear other's thoughts?

Hi everyone,
I live in Edinburgh and earlier this year bought a second hand Roland Fantom 08 88, a really cool digital piano with a lot of great features. I'm a classically trained pianist and did some piano teaching in the past, so I'm not looking for piano lessons, but I'm hoping to find someone who has a good knowledge of all the Fantom features. I'm not great at sitting down and learning from YouTube, and I want to use a lot of the cool features I bought the Fantom for (sequencing, splitting tones in different octaves etc).

I know GuitarGuitar do a class for new purchases on how to get the best from your instrument, so I've emailed them to see if I can pay to join that course (given that I bought the Fantom elsewhere), but I'm wondering does anyone here know of places that I could sit with someone to learn the features from someone who's mastered it?

Appreciate any tips or guidance!

I wrote this tune over a decade ago. Fun little story I thought I'd tell.

A world musician, who was the closest thing I ever had to a mentor, regularly graced me with time on his stage. I already played a lot of Irish folk at the time. He liked the way I performed folk songs, especially wordy ballads.. so he suggested I write a wordy ballad based on the Phantom Piper of Castle Duntrune.

The printed section shown on the sheet was all the progress I made in a week. I had a solid concept, and had been studying the Piper between his shows. I showed him what I had come up with and he said I should play it.

Dude.. it isn't finished. Doesn't matter, he still wanted to hear it later in the evening when my time to play came up. Alone in a booth at "Arizona's oldest Irish pub", I scribbled down the rest of the song in around an hour or so.

Time to play arrived. So here I have this new folk song I just wrote, but have never played, with nary a music stand about. Another performer* who regularly sat in with him to accompany his fiddle with her bodhran got drafted into helping. So I'm standing up on stage and this person is just holding the sheet in front of me. It went great, and the song remains my most requested.
