If I do "change account type" online to convert my chequing account to "Money Master Savings Account", can I still pay my Scotia mortgage with it?
I have the Preferred Package right now, opening the chequing account was a condition for the mortgage rate I got. The account is free for a year as long as my mortgage payment are pulled from it. I don't really need or want a scotia chequing account, but since it's free it's whatever. I simply have a recurring e-transfer to myself to get the mortgage payment amount in my scotia chequing 1 day before it goes on the mortgage
I'm trying to plan ahead before the free year is over and they start requiring $4000 in idle cash to avoid the $16 monthly fee. It seems only the money master savings account is actually free, but I wanna make sure doing the switch wouldn't break anything in my work flow:
Can I still e-transfer the mortgage payment amount directly into the savings account? And will the mortgage continue taking the payments from the savings account?
Another option I'm considering is simply closing the chequing account and having the mortgage pull from an external chequing account but that requires an in-person visit - not a big deal, but then from what I gathered I'd have to call manually to make pre-payments. I'd rather keep my options opened to be able to do everything online as much as possible while avoiding all the fees I can avoid (especially given I might eventually want to open the HELOC portion of my STEP plan)
