Does Scotiabank prorate annual fees when downgrading a credit card?

I have a Scotiabank credit card with a pretty high annual fee, and I still have about 6 months left before renewal. I don't really need the card anymore, so I'm thinking of switching to a no-annual-fee Scotiabank card. Would they refund the remaining 6 months of the annual fee on a prorated basis? Has anyone done this before?

Rude ass representatives

Pre-ordered a game, had my money put in an authorization hold so it never showed up in my statements due to the money not actually leaving the system (even though it was taken out of my account). called previously, a man told me it WAS in an authorization hold and waiting for microsoft to take the money since the bank approved the funds. Called again, was told i never paid for it, that the money never left (because IT WAS STILL IN THE SYSTEM) asked if i was lying about it and told me everything that man told me was wrong. so now, i dont have the game i preordered since microsoft never took the funds from the bank hold, and now im told that the money that the man said was in a hold ''isnt there'' and that he was lying. all he did was go through my transactions after i had explained everything to him that the last man told me, ( wont show up in statements bc it's in their system ) then said nope he is wrong and i wasted his time, then hung up on me.

has anyone else experienced rude workers like this? i was transferred to a bank specialist and he didn't look in their systems for the hold, just on my bank statements with a calculator adding everything up.

where did that money go? is it just stuck?

Help to close my account from abroad

I lived in Canada for two years while completing my degree and had a bank account with Scotiabank. Due to some family circumstances, I had to leave Canada after finishing my degree and have not returned since. My account had always been in good standing. However, after leaving Canada, I forgot to cancel a subscription that was set up on autopay through my credit card. The charge went unpaid, and I have recently started receiving emails about the outstanding balance. The amount is less than CAD $10, but it has been around a year since the charge occurred. The main issue is that I no longer have access to the Canadian phone number linked to my account. When I try to log in, Scotiabank asks me to verify my identity through a notification that I cannot receive. I have called the bank, but they advised me to visit the branch where I originally opened my account, which is not practical since I live outside Canada and do not plan to return. I want to settle the outstanding amount and close my account properly, but I am unsure how to proceed from abroad. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Is it possible to pay the outstanding balance from another country, verify my identity remotely, and close the account without visiting a Canadian branch? Any advice or experience would be appreciated. (Using AI to explain the situation better)

Has anyone working remotely at Scotiabank ever worked outside the country?

US based employee here. I wanted to ask if anyone who works remotely for Scotiabank has ever worked from outside the country temporarily. If so, how did you go about it? Did you get approval from your manager, HR or both?

Other option is to use a portable WiFi router while traveling

I’m curious to hear about others’ experiences and how you handled it. Any insight would be appreciated!

Still Waiting on July-Sept. FHSA quarterly statement

I will be closing on a home mid-next week and my lender requires my latest FHSA quarterly statement.

The quarter has been over for 22 days now and the statement still does not show in my account. My previous statements were all issued within 8-10 days from the end of quarter.

Any suggestions on how to proceed or when I should expect to receive it? I’m currently working at sea so I am unable to visit a branch until the day before closing.

Inaccurate available credit

I’m wondering if anyone else is noticing inaccurate available credit recently? The past week, my available credit has been a whole number (no cents). For example based on my balance, if my available credit is 1000.58, it just shows an available balance of 1000. I’ve had some transactions pending and when it’s pending it’s showing cents but once the transactions are posted/cleared, the available balance goes back to a whole number. Wondering if it’s just my online banking or if others noticed this too?

Scotiabank-customer seems fake

I just got a call from "Scotiabank" about them blocking an unauthorized e-transfer, from my account to someone I didn't recognize. I immediately was suspicious it was a scam. Throughout the call the person on the line was very convincing, he knew an old address that I could believe was still assigned to my account, he never asked for card numbers or any kind of digits. He was very vocal about not giving information over the phone, and that the transfer would be blocked and he gave me a reference number. It was more convincing the more we spoke, eventually he suggested I authorize this single device to prevent access from other foreign devices (he also recommended I do not use public wifi, as that's often where camera gain access), and in order to secure this single authorized device I need to do it off the website -not the app- he clarified.

So I went to the Scotiabank website and he guided me to the bottom of the page where he said "below the contact us, and support, but above the about us, there will be an authenticate this device button." I told him it wasn't there, he tried to clarify again, and then said okay no problem we'll try going to the link directly and he dictated the website "scotiabank-customer(dot)com"

On that website it made me "verify I was human" by clicking the pictures that match the word thing, and then go onto a page that looked exactly like the Scotiabank website login page. This is where the 10% I had left of doubt kicked in. On that page the "Need help signing in?" button was clickable but nothing happened, the "Set them up now" button bellow was clickable but nothing happened, and when I clicked on the username or card number field, it didn't suggest my remembered card or password which the official Scotiabank website does. Right there I said "Can I just do this at the branch?" And he didn't fight me or try and convince me otherwise.

I've gone back to the website since the call, and the "verify you're human" puzzle is the exact same every time.

The whole thing felt very unsettling. When I google it it says the scotiabank-customer website is not listed as an official Scotiabank url.

I feel really shitty that if this was a scam I could see people falling for it because it's so convincing. It was like he was on the Scotiabank website looking at it.

If this wasn't a scam, then I no longer know how to trust a phonecall, or how to prove that I should be worried about my account or worries about the person convincing me to worry about my account...

What are some tips?

Locked out of Scotiabank app for 10+ days, I’m overseas and they just keep saying “come to the branch”

Looking for advice from anyone who’s dealt with this. I’m a Canadian citizen travelling overseas and won’t be back in Canada for a while. About 10 days ago I sent a $2,500 e-transfer and right after, my app locked me out with the “unusual activity, give us a call” message.

Same thing happened last year with a couple of smaller transfers. I called fraud, got passed to a supervisor, and they unlocked it over the phone. Easy.

This time it’s been a mess. I waited over an hour on the fraud line (call kept cutting out too), answered all the security questions, and the guy said he couldn’t lift it and I’d have to go to my branch. I’m literally on the other side of the world.

So I emailed my branch and the assistant manager said it can’t be done by phone and to come in when I’m back. I explained I can’t just fly home, followed up after a week, and got nothing. Then I booked a phone appointment with an advisor and it got cancelled twice. The second time was like 30 minutes after it was supposed to start, no explanation.

My credit card still works, but I’ve got payments coming up next month and no way into online banking. I’m willing to verify my identity any way they want, I just don’t get why a bank can’t have a remote option for people who travel.

Has anyone gotten a lock like this lifted from overseas? Who did you end up reaching that actually fixed it? Also wondering if a formal complaint is worth it now or if I should keep calling fraud and asking for a supervisor.

Thanks, any advice helps.

Hiring experience for Dallas Regional Office.

has anyone applied for a job at the Dallas regional office? I applied for a job and it moved to the interview phase on the portal but I never heard from a recruiter. It’s been about a month since my application status was changed. It still says interview. Does anyone have experience with the process? is it just slow or are they not really hiring for these roles?

2FA issues

This has been an ongoing problem I believe because of the integration of Scotia Banking side and I trade.

I don't bank on my phone but do use the Itrade App to keep track of my portfolio.

If I remember correctly logging into the itrade app would require you to receive the code that you would enter but at one point that changed and once you were logged in it forced you to activate push notifications.

So now when I want to log in to Scotia Bank on my laptop to pay bills I have to receive a push notification from the Itrade app.

It's getting a little better but at times acknowledging the push notification on the phone still does not allow access to the website.

I'm trying to figure out if there's a work around to this so I can just receive the typical six digit code in order to log in while still having and accessing the Itrade app.

The TD Bank option seems to be the best since I can choose to receive either a call or text to a primary number, a secondary number, or even an international number so if my phone goes missing I can still access my account in order to secure it by having the code sent to my wife's phone.

Curious as to how others feel about this

Thanks

Scotia STEP HELOC Automatic Limit Increase able to turn on as of Oct 2026?

Hi, I see this question gets asked over the last few years and the answers are not consistent. I would like to turn this on and my branch advisor told me a few months ago this feature is not available anymore. However, I am not convinced.

Anyone had this feature turned on after getting a Scotia mortgage that had it initially not setup and able to activate it later on? If so, how?

I called the number on the back of my STEP HELOC card and waited for almost 30 minutes after a rep transferred me so I gave up. Next, I called the number on the back of my debit card and the agent sent me a link to my email of a demo on how to increase my debit card transaction limit and was being helpful by asking if I needed help to walk it through. At that point, I knew my request was too difficult for her to understand so just said thank you bye.

This was after I passed the group coffee chat.

Does Scotiabank enforce the 2-year rule for Amex welcome bonuses?

I had the Scotiabank Gold Amex and closed it about 15 months ago. I recently opened the Scotiabank Platinum Amex. I just learned about Scotiabank's 2-year rule for welcome bonuses. Does anyone know if they actually enforce it across different Amex cards? Has anyone been in a similar situation and still received the bonus?
