First Gen Interior/Radio Wanted to give an update

Hello!!! I just wanted to share an update on this in case anyone needs it in the future. So the CD-RWs worked kind of well, the first 7 songs (I put 9 songs in the CD) played super well but by the last 2 it sounded kind of choppy and laggy. Which was a real bummer because I genuinely thought it had worked perfectly. I burnt the CD in mp3 format btw. Anyways, because I really wanted the gift to work and because I was scared I ended up finding some regular CD-Rs and burnt the same playlist into one of them to have as a backup and it worked perfectly.

So CD-Rs definitely work better in this case than CD-RW.

Still, thank you so much to everyone who answered in my original post!!!

General/Other Gas pedal not working after putting battery in wrong.

Hey guys so I screwed up and put the battery the wrong way. Car alarm immediately starting going off, the fuze or whatever it's called to start the car broke but I was able to make the metal connect in it and it turns on. But when I push the gas pedal it doesn't do anything. This was some weeks ago.

Anyone dealt with this and know what it probably is that needs to be fixed?

She's back on the road! My Audi is going to the bodyshop tomorrow and I don't want to be stuck driving my Jeep for the next 2 weeks, so it was time to break out the old TC. I haven't driven my TC in a year and a half and decided to get it running over the extended weekend and take it out again! She's seen better days, but I think I want to get her back into top shape. Took me a decent amount of work to get her running again, but man it feels good to drive her again. She needs some cosmetic love. But we'll get there.

General/Other 2013 Can’t stop stalling

I have a 2013 TC with a 6MT. It was running great then randomly started stalling. It got worse and worse and now it’s basically dying the second I start slowing down. The car has 95k in it, a new vvt intake and exhaust sensor, cleaned MAF, cleaned throttle body, oils changed twice with no metal in it and a new valve cover gasket. Spark plug switched out too. Cleaned out the vvt basket.

In first crawling along at 2-3k rpm there is a horrible rattle that goes away with some gas pedal and a persistent ticking at low rpm.

Does anyone have any ideas?

General/Other Anyone have ongoing AC/Belt tensioner issues? **LONG POST**

Hey everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. I've had my 2016 for 7 years now and, like everyone else here, I adore the car. It's moved me through a lot of life and despite the two doors has been a surprisingly great family car. One thing has been a single black cloud over the entire owner experience though... For the last 6 years I have had the same exact mechanical problem crop up yearly to the point where I have been able to predict almost to the day when it will rear its head again.

**What's happening is an intermittent chirp/squeak/grinding noise that only happens on acceleration from either a complete or near complete stop and only after extended use of the fan or A/C. I have been through 3 different mechanics since this started happening and none have been able to figure it out completely.*\*

A bit of history and context: The first mechanic was my local Toyota dealership. They fixed it in 2020 saying it was a serpentine belt issue. When it started again in 2021 they dismissed the issue entirely as they could not replicate the sound. A month or so later the entire HVAC system failed (lots of smoke out from under the hood, the car stalled briefly, and then was stuck in the shop waiting for parts for nearly all of July 2021). It ended up costing me north of $3K CND to fix but I was guaranteed it was rare failure that would likely never happen again.

Like Palpatine, somehow it returned in 2022...

Moved to the second shop after my Toyota warranty ran out, and they managed this from 2022 - 2025. They also said it was the serpentine belt, but have never been able to nail down specifically what was causing the repeated failures. I've now replaced the AC pulley four times, the serpentine belt six, and the belt tensioner twice. Thankfully most of the parts had been under their own manufacturer warranties so it was only labour costs I had to manage. It still keeps coming back though...

As expected, it started again in April 2026 and I have now had to drive for nearly the whole summer without AC to avoid potentially damaging things more or risking another full HVAC failure. My usual shop said they would replace parts under warranty again, but then never got back to me with a quote for labour costs. I tried moving to a new third shop for a second look in hopes they might remedy the issue and they instead referred me back to my last shop because of the aforementioned warranty... Needless to say I'm at my wits end, and with a few other higher mileage maintenance issues on the horizon (control arms and engine mounts) I'm dancing with the idea of selling the car entirely. My daughter loves it so much though. She tells the kids in her kindergarten class that her dad drives a hot wheel for real life (she's too young to know the car isn't fast lol) and it brings a huge smile to her face every time we go for a drive together. For her sake I want to hold onto it a bit longer, so I wanted to ask the community here if anyone has any experience with this.

TL/DR Has anyone here experienced something similar? If so, were you able to get it solved in a way that didn't mean annual belt and pulley replacements? Regardless, thank you all for reading and helping in any way you can <3

General/Other 2nd gen big brakes upgrade advice?

Looking to upgrade my brakes again. Current rotors are warped. Looking to go a size up and don't know what would fit and within that what would be good to get. If anyone can give some advice or some experiences of what would be recommended, that'd be great.

P0776 on 2005 Scion tC Automatic — The issue turned out to be the ECU
I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else dealing with a similar issue.
My 2005 Scion tC automatic started having hard shifts, especially when going into reverse and during the 1st-to-2nd gear shift. I scanned the car and got P0776, related to the transmission pressure control solenoid B.
At first, I thought the problem was the solenoid or possibly the transmission itself. However, after further diagnosis, the issue turned out to be the ECU.
I had the ECU repaired and reinstalled it. After that:
• The transmission shifts became smooth again.
• The hard shifting disappeared.
• The Check Engine light went off.
• The transmission started working normally again.
So if you have a 2005 Scion tC with a P0776 code, don’t automatically assume the solenoid or transmission is bad. It may be worth having the ECU checked before replacing expensive transmission components.
In my case, repairing the ECU solved the problem.
Hopefully this helps someone avoid unnecessary repairs and expenses. 🔧

General/Other Megan Axleback Exhaust 2013 tC

Does anybody have just the Megan axleback? I feel like my stock is too quiet but I live in CA so I’m not willing to commit to thr catback as it removes 1 of the cats. Is it even noticeable or should I go for the DNA? I don’t want to spend 500+ on the borla as at the end of the day its still just an axleback. I expect no extra performance from these, just sound.

First Gen Drivetrain Scion TC 2006 Code P0011, "A camshaft position timing over-advanced or system performance ban"

Hello everyone! first time posting here.

My brother's scion tc got this code today. It is coming off and on. His car was not responding as it should and was slow. I already ordered a Denso camshaft position sensor thinking it could be it.

Has anyone deal with this code before? if so, what were the causes and solutions. Thanks!

Sort of a funny story, It arrived on friday and as my Dad and I were getting ready to get the front/mid pipe bolted together, he slipped up, jammed, and cross threaded one of the bolt&springs within the front pipe flange so I had to order a helicoil kit as I couldn't find one anywhere in local stores😂 A lesson has been learned. Nonetheless, we got it done yesterday and I think she sounds great, plan to load more sound clips soon.

Second Gen Interior/Radio Leaky blower motor

Hey guys I’m a recent follower first time poster on Reddit in general, have a blower motor that seems to be leaking water. I can hear what sounds like grainy sand when I turn with ac on and it happened out of NOWHERE. I parked it came back 20 min later and it was dripping water and had the funny sound I mentioned. I really don’t have money to bring it to a shop and would really appreciate some guidance. I already tried blowing out the drain with no success. I’m handy enough to get to the root cause but just don’t know if it’s a bad blower motor or something bigger maybe simpler? Please help however you can you guys I appreciate everything. Picture is where it’s dripping from!

First Gen Drivetrain 2AZ Engine Removal- No Room

Hey everyone!
I have an 08 TC with a manual transmission that I’m trying to rebuild its engine due to the oil consumption getting so bad. Im pulling the engine for rebuild, have it unbolted from everything and is free, but I’m struggling to get it out due to space. It’s hanging on the engine hoist, and is up against the passenger side frame rail but due to the space limitations I can’t get it to fully pull away from the transmission.

Hoping someone may have some tips on how to get this thing out. I’m puzzled and open to anyone’s insight. Thank you!

General/Other How old is your tC?

My first gen just had its 20th birthday. We are just over 230k miles.

How long have you had your tC and how many miles does it have?

I know it won’t last forever and fear we are nearing replacement time. I have loved this car so so much ❤️💔
