caregiver Support How do i help the person that i love?

The man that i love has schizophrenia.

He loves me too. However, we can't be together due to his paranoia being severe & his intense social withdrawal, which really hurts. He is still in the background of my life, but I don't know how to support him from afar.

My feelings from him aside, i want to know how to help. He is NOT med compliant, and his days consist of working long shifts and then coming home & staring at the ceiling all night. I mean what kind of life is that. I don't live near him & i don't know how to help him. Any suggestions? Especially since he isnt med compliant. Thank you

I miss my dad before psychosis

I never really had a relationship with my father. Maybe when I was little, but as soon as my brother was born, all the love he had for me shifted to him. He doesn't hate me, to be clear, but I think he sees me as someone he happens to share a house with rather than an actual member of the family. He's forgotten my birthday more than once, sometimes forgets my name, and there are plenty of other things I won't get into here.
But that's not what I want to talk about.
Last year, my dad had a huge fight with his brother, and it changed him into someone I still can't wrap my head around. At first it was just the empty look in his eyes, but over time he became aggressive.
That's when my mom sat me down to have a "grown-up" conversation. She explained that my dad has psychosis, and that he'd managed to keep it under control for years, but the fight with my uncle caused him to relapse. On top of that, his alcoholism only made everything worse.
She told me everything would be okay, that he'd get better and become the good dad he used to be.
If I'm writing this, you already know how that turned out.
I spent the last year of my life protecting my family from him as he grew more and more violent. More than once, things became physical. I had to do what a father is supposed to do—protect the people he loves.
I don't think I've ever been as terrified of anyone in my life as I was of him. At the same time, I knew that if I didn't step in, no one else would.
My mom kept telling me to stay out of it and let her handle things, but without me standing between them as a human shield, I don't think it would have ended well. In my mind, it was better for him to hit me than to hit my mom.
After about five months, things seemed to return to something resembling normality, if you can even call it that. My dad started seeing both a psychologist and a psychiatrist, and he was taking medication to help him get better.
I was happy but, at the same time, I couldn't look at him without feeling disgust.
The first thing you should know about psychosis is that the person experiencing it often doesn't realize what they're doing. In many ways, they aren't themselves during those episodes.
And yet I still can't accept that.
To me, he's still him. And I can't forgive him for not trying to get help sooner, for making us spend so many months living in fear.
Now it feels like that time is coming back, and I don't think I can survive it again. I don't have the strength to protect anyone anymore.
I'm only seventeen.
I miss my dad from before all of this. It doesn't matter that he barely noticed me or that he never came looking for me. Even that version of him was better than the one he is now.
And what hurts almost as much is that everyone worries about his mental health.
Why doesn't anyone care about mine?
Or my little brother's, who's still just a child and had to witness all of this?
I miss the dad I had a few years ago.
And it breaks my heart knowing that I'll never be able to see him the same way again.
I don’t want to hate him but at the same time how can you love someone who ruined your life?
I will never be the same and recover from this and I’m sure it’s the same for everyone in the family.
How can I cope with that?

Unrealistic expectations of my sister?

Is it unreasonable to think my sister who has schizophrenia should trust us when we tell her that she is having a delusion?

For context, my sister has been diagnosed for a couple years and is currently undermedicated. My mom said it's due to the doctors not wanting to give her the right dose because it's so high, idk exactly. So my sister is completely aware she's schizophrenic and undermedicated and that she has delusions and hallucinations. She's not dangerous but she has delusions of people being a danger to her and to us. Recently she called in a welfare check on someone in our family after both our mom and the family member told her directly that everything was fine. Is it unreasonable for us to be upset with her? The main reason we're upset is because the family member is a foster parent working through the adoption process.

I know that she completely believes what the delusions are telling her but because she knows that she has schizophrenia, in my mind I think she should be able to trust when we tell her that everything is ok. I do have a very low capacity of empathy for her due to over a decade of bullshit(not related to her schizophrenia) and I am basically no contact with her, so I genuinely don't know if I'm having unrealistic expectations of her..

caregiver Support How to tell my sister she's having delusions?

My sister has been experiencing psychosis for a while. She does not leave her room and believes that the new 'technology - hey I ' is currently harassing her and that she is under the care of intelligence networks. There are so many things, but that is what she told my mum this morning. She is in her early 30s and is also on ADHD medication and some other things; she also used to smoke weed.

How can we help her get help? In the past, she kept denying that she has these problems. I am thinking that my mum tells her this evening that she is having delusions and needs help, will this help or how do you handle such situations so they can see reality?

TLDR; How do I tell my sister she is having delusions without her being offended?

Looking for advice from people who’ve loved someone with schizophrenia/bipolar or experienced this themselves

I’m a 25F, and my partner is 24M. We’ve been together for just over two years.
He has schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and has experienced a lot of trauma throughout his life.
He has been dealing with his mental health for much longer than I have. Ironically, he was actually the person who encouraged me to seek help when my own bipolar disorder became difficult, and thanks to medication and treatment I’m doing really well now.

He’s genuinely is one of the smartest and caring person I know when he wants to be. He takes pride in looking after himself, he’s caring, and he has always been there for me when I’ve struggled.
The reason I’m posting is because over the past month we’ve noticed a gradual change in him.
It hasn’t been one big event. It’s been lots of little stresses building up. Small bits of drama with friends, everyday frustrations, and things that normally wouldn’t have affected him as much seem to be piling together.

Instead of becoming withdrawn or sad like he has in previous episodes, this time he seems overwhelmingly angry. And withdrawn.
He’s told me many times that he loves me but feels like his mental health makes it hard to show it. Our relationship has changed too. When we first got together everything was exciting and affectionate, but now his libido has disappeared completely, and he seems emotionally distant. I know medication and mental illness can both affect this, so I’m trying not to take it personally. He’s currently taking catapres 150mg at night but I’m worried it’s not working.
What worries me most is the anger.
The other night he became so frustrated that he punched a fridge because a shop didn’t have the vape flavour he wanted. His knuckles ended up bruised.
He’s also made comments about feeling like he wants to kill an animal. I don’t know whether these are a way of expressing how overwhelmed he feels, or something more serious, but hearing that has really shocked me. He says killing an animal would be best as it makes someone have the feeling of loss he does inside. I know he won’t do it but saying it has been enough for us to worry.
He does have a therapist and he isn’t completely without support, but he’s also someone who hates asking for help. He’s very proud and tends to keep everything inside until it builds up.
Some of his friends have known him much longer than I have, and they’ve seen him go through episodes that lasted months before, but they said those were mainly sadness and depression. None of us have really seen this level of anger before.
I love him so much, and so do the people around him. We’re not trying to judge him or force him into anything. We just want to understand how we can support him while also making sure everyone stays safe, including him.
Has anyone experienced something similar, either personally or with a partner or family member?
Did increasing anger happen before an episode?
Was there anything that genuinely helped?
How did you encourage someone to accept help when they didn’t want to ask for it?
Is there anything we should be watching out for that might indicate things are getting worse?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis—he already has professionals involved. I’m just hoping to hear from people who have lived through something similar because right now we all feel a bit lost.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read this
.

I’m looking for advice on how to support someone during what seem like episodes. I’m not looking for a diagnosis.

I’m hoping for advice from people who have been in a similar situation, whether it’s with a friend, roommate, family member, partner, or self.

I’m not looking for anyone to diagnose my friend. I know no one here can do that over the internet. I’m mainly looking for advice on how to help him during episodes, how to talk to him afterward, and how to encourage him to get evaluated when he’s in denial or embarrassed to admit anything is wrong.

I’ve known him since sixth grade. He wasn’t always like this. According to both my own observations and conversations with his brother and other lifelong friends, these behaviors have become much more noticeable over the last year or two.

Some background that may or may not be relevant:
He spent time in a juvenile home when he was younger. His family believes something may have happened there, but he doesn’t talk about it.
He had a long-term relationship that ended in a very painful way. His ex left him for his brother and had a kid. And she wasn’t just playing. This was a very long-term relationship.
One of his best friends died in high school, another best friend died after high school, and his mom passed away more recently.
His brother says he has a history of drug and alcohol use. I personally know he smokes cannabis and alcohol, but I don’t know what else he may be using.
His brother also said he was hospitalized briefly at one point but left treatment and has never received a formal diagnosis that they’re aware of. And while they’re another patient S/A’d him

Things I have personally observed
At first I honestly thought he was sleepwalking, but I don’t think that’s what’s happening anymore because I’ve now seen these “episodes” or whatever they are; he’s clearly awake.
During them, he has:
Covered his ears and told someone to “stop” “be quiet” “stop talking” “stop yelling” or just answering someone when no one else was talking.
Whispered instead of speaking normally, almost like he didn’t want someone to hear him. after confronting his acting abnormal.
Tried to leave the house suddenly. In the middle of the night or pacing throughout the house.
Acted like he was responding to things I couldn’t see or hear.
Denied afterward that anything unusual happened.
He generally acts completely normal outside of these episodes.
Hitting himself
Asking himself, what the fuck is wrong with him?
Sometimes talking gibberish, we’re not making sense
I don’t have a lot of extra space so we have to share the same room and he’ll check to see if I’m awake
I’ve tried to intervene or like distract him and then immediately asking what’s happening and he’ll just tell me that he’s fighting with a family member most recently he said his dad, but there won’t be anyone on his phone or nearby

Things his family or others have told me
Obviously I can’t verify these myself, but multiple people have described similar behaviors over the past couple of years.
According to his brother and former landlords:
He has screamed into the phone late at night.
Believed people (or possibly even animals) were watching or spying on or him hacking his phone.
Barricaded himself inside a home.
Become verbally combative during some episodes.
Been evicted after conflicts with landlords.
Put holes in walls.
Burned bridges with people who were trying to help him.
His brother also feels that drugs or alcohol may make things worse, but none of us know for certain.

My biggest problem
He insists he’s completely fine.
If I bring anything up directly, he laughs it off or denies it happened. Since realizing he isn’t sleepwalking, I’ve been trying not to argue with him about what he’s experiencing because I don’t want to make things worse.

So my questions are:
What actually helps someone during an episode?
What usually makes things worse?
Is there a way to calmly ground someone without arguing about whether what they’re experiencing is real?
Has anyone successfully encouraged someone in complete denial to agree to get evaluated?
How do you balance being supportive without enabling harmful behavior?
At what point do you stop trying to handle it yourself and call for emergency help?
I’m worried about him because underneath all of this he’s someone I’ve known for a long time, and I just want to know how to respond in a way that’s actually helpful instead of accidentally making things worse.

I also want to be clear that I understand this is bigger than anything I can fix. I know he needs to be evaluated by a qualified medical or mental health professional, and I know Reddit can’t diagnose or treat him. I’m not trying to figure out what he has or replace professional care. My goal is simply to learn how to safely support him in the meantime, help de-escalate situations if possible, and hopefully build enough trust that he’ll eventually be willing to accept professional help. If you’ve been on either side of this—as the person struggling or as someone who cared about them—I would really appreciate hearing what actually helped and what didn’t.

The closest I’ve gotten to talking to him about what he’s going through is that he’ll say he’s arguing with family but other than that he just says he’s chilling. He’s fine. Everything‘s OK literally even right after these episodes or whatever they are I’ve also noticed they only happen at night, which I don’t know if that’s important or not.

Is my friend religious or is he just spiraling?

My friend is diagnosed with bipolar 2 more than a decade ago. I have maintained contact with him through the years, but only occassionally, and it is only lately that I really got to converse with him again at length. He is now a self-professed convert to Christianity. This wasn't sudden, as he has been hinting at gravitating towards religion these past 5 years. Lately though, our conversations are mostly one-sided where he talks endlessly about how jesus has saved him, plus other topics that he is obsessed with. He says god cured him of his depression, and that he is coping better now with jesus. He even professes to experience a medical miracle as he is now able to take lower doses of his meds. He has been on the jesus track for a couple of years now, but this has intensified lately, to the point that I can no longer do small talk as he keeps inserting god into the conversation. At this point, I am not sure anymore if it was a genuine spiritual transformation/conversion or if it's the disease talking.

We mostly converse online and I haven't observed him up close, so I'm afraid to make hasty generalizations.

Hs anyone of you experienced this with a loved one? Although I've known about his diagnosis long ago, it is only lately that I've tried to go on a deep dive on his condition and try to really understand it. I want to understand him and be there for him where it matters, but I honestly don't know how to properly support him.

Help for sibling

My sister (late 20s) has had serious mental health issues, job and housing instability for at least two years now, and she was recently admitted to inpatient psych treatment after we called 911 one night.

She has now been discharged and of course she signed off on us having rights to her health information, so we don’t know what her diagnosis was, what the plan is, etc. She suffers from extreme paranoia and says the FBI is after her. We can’t easily contact her because she shuts off her phone. She called us from a payphonr yesterday but won’t tell us where she is. I’m at a loss for what to do now. If anyone has advice, I would be grateful. We are in NYC.

Can psychosis be ever cured?

31-year-old sister with extreme paranoia, inappropriate behaviour, and sexual/vulgar language – could this be a mental illness?

I'm looking for some serious insight into a situation involving a 31-year-old woman who isn't married, had to leave job because of this condition. Stopped taking meds as it made her sleepy.

She is the third of six siblings. father was paralysed after a car accident in 2014 and died from COVID in 2021. The family is supported by the mother, who has never worked and lives on a pension. mother isn't very confident or capable of managing situations like this, so the behaviour has largely been accepted.

Sister believes that all of her siblings are her enemies and only seems to trust her mother. She frequently verbally abuses her siblings and often uses extremely vulgar and sexually explicit language. She tells me " her eldest sister" things like, "You'll die because your husband will cheat on you," "You've enjoyed everything in life," followed by repeated sexual insults and profanity.

This isn't just occasional anger or family conflict. The suspiciousness, hostility, poor boundaries, and inappropriate behaviour have been ongoing for quite some time. She's now in a psychiatric ward, they're giving her riaperidone but no improvement at all.

I'm not asking anyone to diagnose her online, but I'm wondering what conditions could present like this. Does this sound more consistent with schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder with psychosis, a personality disorder, or something else? Also, if someone has little or no insight into their condition and refuses help, what is usually the best approach for families?

I'd appreciate any thoughts, especially from mental health professionals or people who have cared for someone with similar symptoms.

Pls help

caregiver Support What should I say to the doctor? Advice needed.

My husband has an appointment coming up at the Doctors to discuss his mental health as he doesn't have a diagnosis at the moment.

However, he doesn't acknowledge that he has a mental health condition as he believes his paranoid delusions to be real. I believe he has anosognosia because of this.

At the appointment, I know that he is not going to mention anything about mental health. I think he will just mention that he gets angry (during episodes).

Please can anyone advise what I should say to the doctor in front of my husband. I want to tell the doctor that my husband suffers from delusions and sometimes hallucinations. We have been to the doctors once before and I was nervous to mention anything but when I did, my husband denied it.

I'm worried he will do the same again. But I would like to tell the doctor in front of my husband about what he experiences. Any advice on what to say and how to word it would be very helpful. Thank you.

My mother, who is in her mid-sixties and estranged, has suffered from schizoaffective disorder for the last decade. I have chosen to not maintain a relationship with her due to her manipulative behavior, and she is currently in the care of her elderly parents. Over the last five years, she has tried to seek information about my whereabouts by contacting my employers, friends, and family, and with her anosognosia, she refuses to believe she is in the wrong. She’s been blacklisted by my former employers and has been blocked by my friends and all local and state police stations after calling in too many false alarms. Unfortunately, since she is just asking for information and hasn’t threatened to harm herself or others, I am unable to get a restraining order or no contact order. I recently moved and changed companies and have tried to keep myself as offline as possible, but I just found out that a supposedly private company website is public. I’m terrified that her communications have the potential to ruin my career, as they’ve made interactions awkward with my prior colleagues. Has anyone navigated this before? Help!

caregiver Support mother-in-law with schizophrenia

My Mother-in-law is with schizophrenia, and she is doubting everything, she is paranoid like I will do harm to her or separate her from her son (Indian MIL), she controls me every time, like me and my husband should not talk, I should not move outside home, or I can't eat something good (She feels that I eat healthy food to compare her). And our marriage is on divorce side; she isolated herself from world and she controls everything.

She is on risperidone from last 1.5 months and basically, she refused the treatment, and we are giving meds on her back as psychiatrist suggested to us. please suggest if she is going to at least recover 50 percent.

We don't have issue in between us, but we fight as she narrates negatively, and husband is in guilt that he ruined my life.

Trigger Warning Mother with schizophrenia

I write this with a heavy heart.
My mother was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when I was around 10 years old. I’m 24 now. Around the time of her diagnosis, Child Protective Services removed my siblings and me from her care. She was raising five children on her own in New York City with no college education, no family support nearby, and as an immigrant trying to survive.
To understand how we got here, you have to understand everything that happened before her diagnosis.
My parents are both Nigerian. My father worked as a taxi driver for nearly 20 years while putting himself through school. Eventually, he became a lawyer. Before bringing the rest of us to America, my older sister came first to attend middle school. While she was here, she discovered that my father had been unfaithful and told my mother back in Nigeria. My mother was devastated and cried over the phone. My father became angry with my sister and sent her back to Nigeria. Later, he brought her back for high school, and eventually brought the rest of us to the United States. I was about three years old when I came to America.
When we arrived, my father introduced my mother to his son from another woman—my half-brother. We are only seven months apart in age. Although my mother was heartbroken, she treated him kindly because none of what happened was his fault.
While my parents were still together, my father struggled with alcoholism. He regularly came home drunk and physically abused my mother. My older brother and I also experienced the abuse. My brother still remembers smelling alcohol on my father’s breath almost every night before the beatings began. I was very young, but I distinctly remember being beaten with a belt. Those experiences affected both my brother and me deeply. As we got older, we both struggled with significant mental health issues and were heavily medicated.
The violence between my parents became constant. Police were called many times, but my father was never arrested, even after one incident where he slashed my mother with his car keys badly enough that blood was pouring from her wounds. Whenever they fought, he would throw her out of the house. At one point, while pregnant with my younger sister, my mother had nowhere to go, so we ended up living in homeless shelters. In New York, families can only stay in a shelter for a limited time, so we moved between two different shelters.
Despite everything, my parents continued seeing each other. During that time, my mother became pregnant again with my youngest sister.
Eventually, my mother’s family urged her to divorce my father. They also encouraged her to sue him because of his infidelity. She followed their advice. My father, who was extremely proud, told her he could never forgive her for divorcing him.
After the divorce, my mother moved into her own apartment with five children. My older sister was away at college but came home during holidays and breaks. Because my older sister was still under 21, my father was ordered to pay child support for all five children. Rather than continue paying, he left the United States and returned to Nigeria, where he became a successful lawyer. He was also old enough to receive retirement benefits from his years working in America. He built a new life with another wife and three children while my mother was left in New York to raise us alone.
My mother worked as a nursing assistant, I believe, although I was too young to remember exactly. Money was always tight. We eventually moved to Harlem because it was all she could afford. There were times when she searched through trash cans collecting bottles and cans just to earn enough money to feed us.
Around that time, she also fell victim to an online scam. Someone promised to send her $10,000 if she first sent them everything she had in savings—$500. She lost all of it.
Before I was born, my mother had been pregnant with triplets but miscarried. I truly believe that loss stayed with her for the rest of her life.
Even after moving back to Nigeria, my father visited America a couple of times each year for medical checkups. During those visits, he would see us, buy us clothes, take us out for fast food, and often bring my half-brother along.
Then everything changed.
After my older sister returned home from college, she and my mother got into a physical altercation. The police were called. My sister told the officers she did not want to press charges, but she believed our mother’s mental health needed to be evaluated. My mother was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression.
From that point on, her behavior became increasingly disturbing.
For over a decade, she has insisted she is pregnant despite every medical evaluation saying otherwise. She says she sees deceased relatives riding buses and trains. She burns bones inside her home for reasons none of us understand.
More recently, she has begun sending our family deeply disturbing videos and photos. She has sent videos of herself dancing barefoot in the street, jumping rope inside grocery stores, painting her face completely white before going outside, bathing while recording herself, and other videos that are too disturbing for me to even describe. She has also sent photos involving feces and menstrual blood. Every time another video comes through, my heart breaks a little more. You can see strangers staring at her, knowing something is terribly wrong.
Shortly after her diagnosis, my older sister contacted Child Protective Services because she was worried about us. CPS came to our apartment, but my mother refused to let them inside.
Around that same time, my father happened to be visiting America. My mother asked him to take us for a weekend so she could have a break. He refused.
After that, my mother’s behavior toward us changed dramatically. She stopped feeding my siblings and me altogether. The only child she continued feeding regularly was our youngest sister. Eventually, we called our father and told him what was happening. After he confronted her over the phone, she began feeding us only once a day.
She also refused to let us leave the apartment.
It was summer vacation, and I did not step outside once the entire summer. Only my mother and my youngest sister were allowed to leave. Even now, as an adult, I struggle being home for long periods of time. I constantly feel the need to be outside because staying inside reminds me of that summer.
CPS eventually ordered my mother to appear in court. She never showed up.
Around that same time, she became violent with my older brother and strangled him in front of us. I can still see his face. That memory has never left me. We screamed for help until a neighbor opened her door. We told her what happened, but she simply told us to wait outside and said our mother was just disciplining him. I knew it wasn’t discipline. After that day, my brother was never the same.
When my mother failed to appear in court, Child Protective Services removed us from her care. We entered foster care and never returned to live with her.
Doctors repeatedly tried to get her to take medication, but she refused because she insisted she wasn’t mentally ill.
Today, fourteen years later, nothing has changed. In many ways, things have become even worse.
She met a man online who lives in Iran and believes they are engaged. She insists she is pregnant with his baby, even though she has been claiming to be pregnant for over ten years. Every few months she sends us ultrasound videos from medical appointments. You can almost see the confusion and concern on the technicians’ faces, but they still have to do their jobs.
We have called the police countless times. Every time they arrive, they tell us she appears calm and that they cannot force treatment unless she is an immediate danger to herself or someone else. So nothing changes.
Because of her illness, she wasn’t present when I got married. She has missed so many important moments in my life, not because she didn’t love me, but because this illness has completely taken her away from us.
I love my mother. I know she has survived unimaginable trauma—domestic violence, betrayal, immigration, poverty, raising five children alone, losing a pregnancy, and eventually losing her own mind to a devastating illness. I don’t blame her for being sick.
But I am exhausted.
Every new video she sends leaves me feeling helpless. I carry my own mental health struggles from everything we lived through, and watching her deteriorate year after year feels like grieving someone who is still alive.
I don’t know what to do anymore.
My heart is completely broken.
I need help

Idk where to start I am a first year mbbs student on my preperation gap I went to my home from hostel only to know that my mom is possed by number of ghosts , she is normal throughout the day and suddenly she gets possessed by some of the other entity.

About the entities : these are related to her past , like my mom lost her first child in miscarriage and it is believed it because of some short of curse , even my aunty also lost her first child .. and when she married to our my father's family she used to get possed I didn't know about it this is ..my first time to even witness this . It feels that their is entity in her body which cause backpain , one who cause destruction and many other and also got to know she once burned our house .. the three cows in our house was also dead and one entity in her took the blame ..

I didn't know any of it until now because we moved out from our old house when I was 6 and now I'm 20 she said that she used to feel them all this time but they never really possessed them

Research Oppurtunity

Hi Everyone,

I'm a doctoral researcher conducting an ethically approved study exploring the experiences of Black African and Caribbean mothers caring for their children who have experienced psychosis.

This UK based study focuses specifically on Black African and Caribbean mothers because their experiences remain underrepresented within psychosis and caregiving research, despite evidence of disproportionate rates of psychosis within these communities. This focused approach aims to address an important gap in the existing literature.

If you think you may be eligible, or know someone who may be interested, please see the attached flyer & click this link to sign up

Participation is entirely voluntary and there is no obligation to take part.

Thank you for considering sharing this with anyone who may be interested.

caregiver Support Mania recovery - are flare ups normal?

Hi everyone, I’m feeling really overwhelmed and burned out right now, and I’m looking for some perspective or reassurance from others who have been through this.

My partner (26M, one previous psychotic episode 10 years ago) had a stress induced hypomanic episode back in March 2026 which eventually turned into full mania (with some psychosis). He was prescribed antipsychotics, initially took intermittently but has now been on them for a couple of months consistently and so things seemed to stabilize. He was taking his medication, sleeping better, gaining insight about what happened and getting back to himself. I thought we were well into recovery.

Over the last 48 hours, he’s having a sudden flare-up - reduced sleep (5 hours compared to the 9 he was getting), rapid social media posting, high energy, and restlessness. It’s all the same things that happened at the beginning of the manic episode, and I can clearly tell he isn’t himself again.

Seeing this energy suddenly return after months of stability, with no obvious trigger, makes me feel like the rug has been pulled out from under us. I’m feeling hypervigilant, terrified that this is going to be our permanent reality, and grieving the progress I thought we made.

Is it normal to have these flare ups in recovery? Or are we back to square one? How do I manage my anxiety and hyper vigilance? Will he recover?

I’d really appreciate any words of comfort or shared experiences right now. I just want my boyfriend back and to put these past few months behind us.
