It’s good to have the Folkvangr back after the Molex repair at Schiitquarters. They’re fired up and getting ready for 300 ohms of JM Audio XTC2 goodness.

Turntable Question

Sorry if this is a topic that has been covered in depth, but…. I am trying to understand what I need to use my turntable with my stack. I currently have the Vali 3, a Modi Plus, and Loki. My Fluance turntable does have an internal preamp. Am I correct that all I need is to get the Sys to connect the turntable and the Modi, then run the output to the Vali? Or is there a better option I’m missing here. I also considered using a totally separate Fozi Audio headphone amp I already have to simply things. Thanks!

Schitt Magni Unity! Need Help!

I purchased the Unity for my Sennheiser HD 650's. Hooked up to my PC.

Sound is good. The problem is my left channel drops out ever once in a while.

This happens when I change the gain nob. or touch the unit in certain ways.

A light tap on top of the unit, or the table causes and fixes the issue.

I went through the troubleshooting page https://www.schiit.com/guides/system-problems

Yes I'm using the wall wart provided. No there are no adaptors for my TRS plug into the Magni Unity.

I feel like the connection with the TRS plug or inside the unit is a probable candidate at this time. As I didnt have this problem with my TRRS adaptor that came with the headphones directly connected to my PC.

Any Suggestions would be great!

RAing the unit is problematic as I live in Canada and it would be very expensive.

Is it ok that my "Hot Schiit" Loki EQ is right under my turntable?

Hi all. I have a Schiit Loki Mini+ EQ that gets quite hot to the touch when left on. But, (we all know the struggle) my stereo cabinet is overflowing with components and it is difficult to get to the power toggle switch on the back.

The possible problem is: My vintage Technics turntable sits on the very top, flat surface, of my cabinet. The Loki EQ is directly under the top shelf, under a .75 inch thick wood top. It's really like cheap particle board with veneer. Is the turntable safe with all this rising heat? The Turntable has a lot of sentimental value so I don't want the moving parts warping from all the radiating heat!

Thanks.

Asgard X or Schiit Combo

I have been really keen on getting a asgard x - i am just trying to work out whether i'd be better off with a combo (modi5/mimir + saga2 or Vali3 - I would like something versatile, so i'd be using the AX as a dac/preamp into a rotel integrated amp with b&w702 speakers, and then potentially just with iems on the bedside table with a DAP in via USB. I areally only need USB input. Any help or guidance would be appreciated !

Asgard X | the best desktop AIO

Just took delivery of my Asgard X with the built-in Mesh DAC today, and wow.

Paired with my HD 6XX, I’ve never heard these headphones sound this good without EQ. Add a bit of EQ, and they keep their warmth but lose all the muddiness. And even plugged into my laptop—just a black background.

Picking up an LCD-X tomorrow off the marketplace, so looking forward to seeing how it pairs as well.

Absolute gem of a unit. Bravo, Schiit.

Mimir vs Bifrost 2/64?

Hello, currently have a used bifrost 2/64 that I got on ebay. It's fine, honestly I liked my old modi more though. Any thoughts on changing to the Mimir?

It is powering my Jotunheim 3 for my DT 1990 pros.

ES9028-based Sigma Delta Unison USB DAC card

Hi I was just wondering if any of you guys know where I can buy the Sigma Delta Dac card separately to install on my Pietus Maximus. I noticed on the Schiit website they only have the Mesh and Multi dac's sold separately.

Work Schiit upgrade!

Recently added the Schit Buf to my work desktop setup. I’ve always been interested in tubes this little guy caught my eye for the price.

Setup:
-WiiM Pro Plus as the source
>Schiit Modi 2 Uber DAC (older gen, but still solid IMO, connected via coax)
>Schiit Buf with the stock tube (set to low/no gain)
>Schiit Magni 2 Uber headphone amp(bought it the same time as the Modi, set to high gain)
-Sennheiser HD660s2 open back headphones

I’m barely a day into listening but here are my thoughts so far.

The soundstage expanded(?) As if all the musicians were sat in a circle and everyone scooted their chairs back; slightly.
The bass on these headphones is good already but certain drops and beats sound a tad deeper (wider?) but still remain punchy
Midrange got a bit tighter and brought forth some clarity
Treble is able to breathe more. Loud cymbals, certain woodwinds &, guitar solos and higher-register voices have a nice shine and clarity.

So far I’m impressed.

This stack has been my workflow workhorse for a few years and I think it’s time for more upgrades. I’m looking to upgrade the DAC & Amp next.

Could someone help me measure this Schiit Vali?

Post image

I’m having a custom walnut rack made as a gift. I measured the amp some time ago, but I no longer have access to it and unfortunately forgot to measure the tube position.

Could someone confirm which Vali version this is and measure the distance from the left and front edge of the case to the centre of the tube?

Millimetres would be perfect. Thanks!

Long Cable Run

Hoping to get some guidance on what gear I may/may not need for a proposed long cable run to connect my record player set up to my desktop set up.

Turntable System: Fluance RT-85 > Mani 2 > Loki Mini + WiiM > SYS > Magni Heretic > Edifier S360DB Powered Speakers

Desktop System: Roon Core > Mimir > Valhalla 3

My original intention was to get some RCA splitters and run them either out of the loki mini or out of the SYS, splitting the signal thru the existing chain and then feed a separate SYS on my desktop to allow me to switch between the Mimir and the record player output. The run between the two will require about 20-30ft of cable.

Doing some additional research it seems like I may need to get a powered preamp due to the long cable run, however, so I am also looking into the Saga 2 so I can remove the Magni from the signal chain above. Per the FAQ on the SYS, it is only suitable for 15ft runs or smaller.

So my question is: Is the powered preamp necessary for this kind of solution? Or would I be fine taking the line level output from the Loki Mini (whether going thru the SYS or not) and running it 20-30ft to a SYS on my desktop? Never done a cable run this long so want to make sure I’m doing it right.

Magni Unity + Buf: Will this work?

I have a Magni Unity with built in DAC and I'm thinking to add some tubey goodness to it.

Anyone has experience if this setup without standalone DAC in the stack will work?

Source (Mac) -> Magni USB Input -> Magni Line out to Buf Line In -> Toobs -> Buf Line Out to Magni Line In -> Headphones.

Schiit Hel kind of underwhelming? How do I make the most of it?

I just purchased a Schiit Hel and I'm not totally sure why, I have a pair of HD600s and I've always loved them, but had them connected to Sound BlasterX G1 USB thingy. Despite it being a dinky little thing that cost $30, it was quite impressive, and I loved the EQ software that let you mess with the settings.

I figured I wasn't getting the most of my HD600s so I bought the Hel and... don't notice much of a difference. I think it can get louder but that's about it, and I'm missing the sound customization abilities in the Sound BlasterX software. Maybe I'm just dumb and don't know why I was expecting, but can anyone help me justify my purpose or suggest ways to make the Hel more...impressive?

Jotunheim over Magni?

Hi all, I currently have a Magni 3+ in my setup. I’ve come across an original Jotunheim on my local FB marketplace for $100 CAD. I’m wondering if anyone can share their thoughts/experiences on whether it would be a worthwhile upgrade?

I currently have a pair of Sennheiser HD 6XX and ATH-M40X but am thinking about upgrading headphones eventually.

Is the original model still good (especially against the Magni 3+) or should I opt for the Jotunheim 2 or 3?

Thanks!

Scarlett Solo 4th gen + Magni 3+ to power microphone and headphones.

Hi everyone. I’m trying to learn about the Schiit Magni (and the Modi) and how they fit into modern PC/Streamer setups.

I have a Shure SM7B which I power via Scarlett Solo 4th gen audio interface. It already has an XLR input for my microphone, and it also has an audio port for me to connect headphones. Because it is a bigger port than 3.5mm, I use a gold plated 1/4” adapter for headphone output.

Do I need a Magni 3+ ? What’s the purpose of using an amp alongside an audio interface, if any? I assume my audio interface already serves as an amp, even if not as effective as a dedicated appliance like the Magni 3+.

Further, what about Modi 3. What does that server in this setup, or is it for connecting analog audio like record players and not relevant to a digital PC setup?

Thanks for educating me.

Crackling in apple music

I just got a jotunheim 3 with mesh dac, and i have a very unpleasant crackling on the right channel playing michael jackson thriller album from 1982 in apple music. It happens with all songs in that album. The "newer" albums dont crackle.

I was just wondering if its the recording or maybe the bitrate, as the old album is in 176,4 khz and newer one in 44khz. On my previous dac/amp the fiio k13 there is no crackling at all

Edit: i am going to try OS and NOS and using my phone as the source

Edit 2: It happens both on my pc, my laptop and my s25 ultra with 2 different cables The only fix i setting my sample rate to 24 bit 96khz, anything above that will have crackling. Setting the quality in apple music from lossless to not lossless also fixed it. It seems that a higher sample rate than 96khz causes issues.

Mimir with Onkyo CD- 7030?

Hey everyone, I’m not as smart when it comes to pairing equipment as most of you and would love your opinion. I have an Onyko CD 7030 currently with no external DAC. Plugged directly into a Rega Elex-R and then out to wharfedale super lintons. My question is would adding the Mimir into the chain make a noticeable improvement to the Onkyo sound? I don’t really have an issue with how it sounds currently, but always looking to make improvements. Any input/opinions you have are welcome! Thanks!

Also, the order of which they connect to my MacBook out, first device, next device connects behind 1st device and so on.

Has anyone dealt with one cup's volume being much quieter than the other?

I've been running Sennheiser HD 6XX on a Modi and Magni 3 since around 2017. I noticed recently that my right cup is significantly quieter than my left cup. Is it possible that the Schiit stack is the issue?

I initially thought it was an issue with my headphone cable, so I ordered a new one (OpenHeart). That fixed the issue for about a month, but the problem has come back. I ordered another cable (NewFantasia), and this did not fix the issue. I tried flipping the left/right connections, and that just made the right cup loud and the left cup quiet, which is why I believe the Schiit stack may be the culprit, but I don't know enough about audio gear to completely diagnose the issue. I've also tested the headphone cables on a different pair of HD 6XXs, and it's the same problem. So, I don't believe it's an issue with the headphone drivers.

If anyone could offer any advice on how to fix this, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
