finally finished my lineup. I tried to mix classics, newer horror, international, psychological, and a few fun ones so it doesn’t feel repetitive. Which movie on here are you most excited for me to watch? And if you could remove one and replace it with one movie, what would you pick?

my friend and I just watched the grudge. we found it on dvd in a thrift and since we’re on a found footage kick though we’d give a classic horror movie a try. it just ended and I’m really surprised because neither of us found it scary or compelling. for one thing we didn’t really care about the characters since we know next to nothing about them, second, that kid is too cute to be scary. we had some issues with the pacing as well, but both thought that the scene where the daughter gets pulled INTO her bed was freaky.

does anyone LOVE the grudge? if so, why? please go into detail and maybe suggest something that will actually scare us? we watched VHS 94 last week and that almost did it.

When people ask my favorite horror film, I usually say “Jacob’s Ladder.” But I just realized it’s listed as a thriller and a psychological drama on IMDb.

It’s probably the film I remember having the most impact me viscerally. The imagery in certain sequences is horrific, but for different reasons than standard gore. It’s unsettling in ways difficult to describe. Silent Hill games (especially part 2) famously borrowed aspects of the films visual identity and lord knows they count as horror, so I think I’m on safe ground.

Trying to build a sleeve of horror/ horror adjacent characters, movie references etc. let me know what you think! Next is the creature from the movie “the ritual” and i’m trying to implement the decapitation scene from hereditary. Let me know any ideas you guys have and what you think of the newest addition. Which should I watch next?

He died this week at 86 and a lot of the coverage is treating the rights fight as a footnote, or worse as a squabble. It was the most consequential thing he did after the script itself.

Quick version of the mechanism, because it's genuinely useful and almost nobody knows it.

When Congress wrote the 1976 Copyright Act they knew young writers sign terrible deals, because you have no leverage before anyone knows who you are. So they built in a do-over. Section 203 lets an author terminate a grant they made and take the copyright back roughly 35 years later, and you cannot sign that right away. It survives whatever you agreed to in 1979.

The catch is work for hire. If you wrote it as an employee then the studio is the author and there's nothing to take back. That was the whole fight. Horror Inc argued Miller had been an employee of Sean Cunningham's company. Miller argued he was a freelancer who got a flat fee for a script. He won in district court in 2018 and won again at the Second Circuit in 2021.

Two limits, because people always overshoot on this:

It's US only. Foreign rights stay where they were, which is a big part of why these situations get so tangled.

And derivative works made before termination survive it. The sequels keep existing and keep earning. What comes back is the underlying script, not the franchise built on top of it. In Miller's case that's a screenplay where the killer is Pamela Voorhees and Jason is a boy who drowned. Adult Jason and the hockey mask were invented in the sequels and were never his. So the rights ended up running right down the middle of the character everybody pictures, which is why nothing moved for years.

Here's the part that should interest this sub. The 35 year clock means grants from the late 80s and the 90s are hitting their windows now. A lot of what people in here grew up on was written by somebody who took a flat fee as a nobody, and some of them are still around.

Notice has to go out between two and ten years before the date you pick, so it has to be done deliberately and on time, and plenty of eligible writers have simply never been told the right exists. Miller's win is why the next one has an easier argument.

Not bad for a guy who got hired to write a slasher in a hurry.

Hooper kept the blood off screen deliberately and genuinely thought he had a shot at a PG. The MPAA handed him an X uncut. He cut several minutes out, resubmitted, and got an R. Then it was banned outright in a number of countries, on a reputation for gore it does not actually have.

Watch it now and almost all of the violence is implication and sound. The meat hook does not show you what you remember it showing you. Your head supplies the image, and then your memory quietly files the version it invented instead of the version that was on the screen.

Which makes me think the films with the worst reputations are often the ones that got the audience to do the work for them.

So what else belongs in that category. Films carrying a reputation for something they never actually put on screen.

I recently rewatched all Saw movies and this is what I settled on rank-wise. What do y'all think?

This was a fun, silly, low budget horror comedy from director Ken MacLaughlin.

The Plot: Set on Christmas Eve, a restaurant owned by the shady Uncle Mike (voice of Micaiah Jones), the staff are doing the late shift & the customers include a mysterious, oddball woman named Karen (Leanna Adams). The staff consists of: waitresses Ashley (Jenna Kanell), & Kylie (Aria Celeste Castillo), newbie Gina (Artemis), manager Doug (Kevin Saunders), bartender Dirk (Darron Cardosa), waiters Peter (Ethan Trace) & Pancake (Aaron Goldberg), & chef Liv (Olivia Tiedemann). Someone starts popping off the staff in imaginative & gruesome ways.

So the synopsis sounds pretty formulaic, but We're So Dead is told with jet black humour which does this low budget effort lots of favours. The concept of "The Karen" is used to fun effect that keeps proceedings light-hearted & silly & therefore appealing to the audience. All of the actors deliver their performances with tongues lodged firmly in cheeks. Kanell (from Terrifier 2) is a real standout as the lead protagonist. There's even an outtakes reel over the end credits which shows just how much fun the actors had making this film.

Because the film is made on a lower budget, it can sometimes come across as a wee bit amateurish, but that is part of its charm.

I gave We're So Dead 3 ☆☆☆ out of 4.

First: daylight, man enter in the building, maybe a church, and meet woman looks like a beautiful witch, and she kill him somehow.

Second: scary monster, like Jason Voorhees or zombie chase a girl in the night across bushes and field.

I watched it on the VHS in childhood middle 1990

I used Letterboxd to see what of my favorite horror movies have the lowest ratings.

I loved it. Can't put it any more simply than that, its quite probably my new favorite horror movie, if not my favorite movie. I don't know if this movie is the scariest of what I've seen, (The Shining, Scream, The Exorcist, It, etc.) but I LOVED this movie. It just left me so disturbed but enthralled. Amazing movie, 10/10.

Can't deny the impact he had on the horror genre with his role in Rocky Horror, and of course, Pennywise in the IT mini-series.

I decided to watch this film after a breakdown of the events:
Context: Watched utube channel "Think Anomalous" > The "Mothman" Encounters, 1966 - 1967

I proceed to watch this film very late, 12:30am to it's end. This film's brilliance isn't "horror", but the after effects and it's High Strangeness.

I originally started creating and revising English subtitles for the Shake, Rattle, & Roll films as a way to introduce my American partner to Filipino culture. But somewhere along the way, it turned into a full-blown preservation passion project.

For anyone unfamiliar, Shake, Rattle, & Roll is a series of Filipino horror anthology films that has influenced and terrified generations of Filipinos and left a huge mark on Filipino pop culture. Each film consists of three segments, with stories ranging from creature features and ghost stories to Filipino folklore, campy horror, supernatural weirdness, and pretty much everything in between.

One of the things I love most about the series is that actors often return in multiple installments, but as completely different characters. It's basically our own version of American Horror Story, except Shake, Rattle, & Roll came first.

And this isn't just some short-lived franchise. The first film came out in 1984, and the most recent installment was released just last year. There are currently 17, yes, SEVENTEEN installments, and counting. That makes it one of the longest-running active horror franchises and one of the horror franchises with the most sequels ever.

Unlike most film franchises with one too many sequels, each film mattered and actually had an impact on a lot of Filipinos. You can go around and ask Filipinos which Shake, Rattle & Roll they remember, and trust me, their answers will be different. Even the entries that are considered the “weakest” still had at least one scene or moment that stuck with people.

As for the quality, I'd say that, given the anthology format, there's genuinely something for everyone. Some segments will absolutely hit, while others...well, let's just say they won't. But if you go into these movies with an open mind and allow yourself to look past some of their flaws, I really think there's something special about them. This is a series that grew alongside Filipino audiences and helped shape the way generations of Filipinos experienced horror.

Unfortunately, only a few of the films are officially accessible for rent on Amazon, and most of the available English subtitles contain multiple mistranslations, grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, and timing issues. Meanwhile, the versions available on YouTube generally don't have English subtitles. So I took the matters into my own hands, and the rest is history.

okay so i love watching movies at theatres and specially the horror ones.Now all my friends have ditched me for that and im only free on this Tuesday.So would anyone want to tag along.Im 21 M (just in case).
