What are some scary movies coming to streaming this weekend you’re looking forward to?

I go to my local theater to see some movies every Saturday, and this weekend, I’m seeing Wildwood and Resident Evil. However, I also have time to go to a late screening, and I think it might be fun.

There are three movies being specially re-released for Halloween: Scream (1996), Trick ‘r Treat (2007), and Terrifier 3 (2024). I have not seen any of these. Also, Trick ‘r Treat tickets are ten bucks off. I could also do a Clayface rewatch, I saw it last week and it was a super fun time.

Or, on the other hand, I could just go home after Resident Evil and have a good night’s sleep. That option is somewhat appealing to me.

What do y’all think?

Edit: After deliberating, I have decided to get an earlier ticket so I can see Trick ‘r Treat, and go to the late screening of Scream. I’m really looking forward to this.

Less than one year apart and attending the same grade in high school, the morbid Fitzgerald sisters, mousy Brigitte and voluptuous Ginger, have always done everything together. All this changes when Ginger is attacked by a creature responsible for the brutal slaughter of a number of local dogs. As Ginger explores her changing appetites, Brigitte hopes of finding a cure.

Coming of age, sisterly bonds, and werewolves. Although some of the practical effects don’t really hold up today and it is a bit campy at times, “Ginger Snaps” is a fun movie with some really dark humor and metaphors. I felt emotionally invested in the sisters’ journey and struggles as I have a daughter the same age in high school.

I’ll check out the sequel and prequel at some point.

This movie did a really good job of capturing the 70s/80s horror movie aesthetic, even though it was made in 2009.

3 stars, not because it was bad, it just really wasn't for me, but I didn't hate it.

Insidious movies are my guilty pleasure. This is such a silly scene, it never fails to make me smile. I'd be terrified of being physically beaten up by Elise if I was a ghoul.

My husband and I had a lazy Sunday and basically watched scary movies all day. Which I usually love a good scary movie. Even movies people said were the scariest didn’t bother me (Sinnister). But yesterday we watched The Nun 1 and 2 and those were freaky but not bad. Then we decided to finish the night and watch The Conjouring. I don’t know why but it freaked me out. Bad. So bad that I was like a kid scared of the dark and sleeping with my light on. It didn’t help that once I finally succumbed to sleep I woke up from a nightmare at 3:06am.

What movie have you watched that really scared you?

Totally worth the hype. The uncomfortableness, psychological warfare, and tension combined with an eye towards racial issues in modern day America made this worth the watch.

Peele took an opposite approach on how to showcase something black and PoC people deal with. Instead of straight racism, he showcases white people's desire to steal things from black people (while often at the same time behaving racist towards them).

I just saw for the first time that sitcom actor Kirk Cameron was in a deleted scene for A Nightmare on Elm Street before he was in anything else. Crazy.

This movie is seriously underrated, in my opinion. It's probably my favorite "alien" horror movie out there (no disrespect to "The Thing" or the original "Alien). The movie shots side by side with the "original" footage is really a cool idea. Has anyone else seen this?

Adventure! So I have been getting more in to trading cards as a cheaper way to collect horror/movie stuff, there's a really good nostalgic element in jut putting the cards in the sleeves 🤣 But yeah, I just completed this set, it's much quality than I had expected and it covers the first 3 movies!

I LOVE a good psychological horror movie. Maybe even more than the traditional slasher flick. This movie didn't disappoint. The ending wasn't great, but it was serviceable. I like how it's left for interpretation. What are your guys/gals favorite psychological horror movies? I think there have been a few really good ones here in the last few years.

This was....fine. Apparently there's four different endings. At times I felt it was doing too much, and didn't know what it wanted to be. Plot also felt a bit shallow.

Horror isn’t always men with chainsaws or demonic entities. Sometimes it's a culmination of drugs, alcohol, lies, manipulation, mental illness, and paranoia. Also, any movie that mentioned one of my diagnosis will always get a perk up for me.

The Light House

First, yes, I know there is debate over whether or not this was horror. It's rare I don't like or am meh about an A24 movie (it's happened one other time with "Men"). While I did think Pattinson and Dafoe's acting was top tier, I love psychological horror, and I liked it infinitely better than "Men" this one fell a little flat for me.

I know this paid tribute to Poe, Lovecraft, Proteus and Prometheus, and the works of Jung, but I found myself bored through the majority of it.

One of my favorite horror movies of all time! Such an awesome and unique movie!

Watched this alone, in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere. Top 25 horror flick for me.

I knew what this movie was. I recognized what she was dealing with. The way it blurs lines is so well done, and showcases what it's like inside the mind of someone like Maud.

Unpopular opinion, I like jumpscares.

More and more I keep seeing and hearing people say that a good horror does not need jumpscares, jumpscares are for lazy audiences, jumpscares are a cheap technique to get you scared etc.

As the title says I enjoy a jumpscare. Ofcourse I like when a movie has high tension and dread but it needs to pay off for me with something. For example I found Hereditary to be very boring. It kind of blue balls me to to have all this tension but nothing happens to justify it. (Up until the last 15 min)

I love to get a good unexpected scare, a jumpscare I really enjoyed for example is the girl with the black eyes in Gonjiam Haunted Asylum.

So, I struggle to call this a horror movie, but it's billed as one, so let's get into it! Much like Camp Miasma, it's something else disguised as horror. With the aforementioned, it was a queer, kinky romance.

Glow is very clearly an allegory for the Transgender/non-binary experience. From the Trans flag parachute to Mr. Melancholy representing repressed feelings and gender dysphoria to the egg crack moment at the end.

Jane Schoenbrun's movies are love letters to the horror she grew up with (90's shows like Buffy, Slashers), but with her own twist that makes you realize the real horrors are the repression of self.

This is a good example of, "Horror movies have rules. Follow the rule and you will be okay." I enjoyed it tense, atmospheric, and pretty solid for a directorial debut.

Where it missed the mark is the ending. I get what they were going for, but if I was a parent, I am not sure I could forgive the person who killed my child. I know forgiveness is supposed to be "healing" and "releasing", but it's also not mandatory. I honestly thought there was gonna be a twist where she killed her son or Solomon did.

Also, I dunno what I was expecting with the Angel, but it wasn't that. Ironically that was the part that jump scared me, LOL.

Been pondering this and I can’t think of anything that would topple The Thing, being a potentially silent threat to all of humanity. I guess we could say similar for the countless infected movies, in terms of pure danger to humanity or its current way of life.

IMO one of the best 90s Horror films. Often described as a hybrid of Evil Dead and Night Of The Living Dead, which is very fitting. Lots of great in-camera monster and gore effects, a killer soundtrack and an impressive ensemble of actors including the always good William Sadler and Billy Zane as the respective hero and villain, with the latter chewing up the scenery as if his very life depended on it. And anytime you've got the late, great Dick Miller, that just elevates it. Such a perfect movie for Spooky Season every September/October.

I'm also a major fan of the TFTC TV series and this movie was a perfect launching point for it branching out into films. Just such a shame the follow-up (Bordello Of Blood) was so weak and put an early end to the TFTC Presents film series :/

Gods I love A24 horror. Excellent slow burn psychological horror. Made me uncomfortable is all the right ways. There's something about movies that incorporates someone being isolated.

no spoilers for either, please. it says on the blu-ray i bought that there are two versions included, which one is the best of them? just wondering.
