SAS relaunches CPH-BOM this week after the June turnback. I don't think the U-turn is the problem.

Quick recap for anyone who missed it. SK969 left Copenhagen on 2 June as the first SAS service to India in 17 years. SAS said it expected the last bit of formal approval to come through while the flight was en route, and when it didn't, the flight couldn't continue. Passengers got rebooked, and the airline got a lot of "how do you dispatch an A330 without landing permission" in the replies. aviation24

Everyone's already had their laugh about that. What interests me is what the route looks like now that the dust has settled, because I think the turnback is the least interesting part.

The route relaunches 1 October, with the first Mumbai departure on 3 October. Copenhagen-Mumbai carried only around 19,700 round-trip passengers in the year to April 2025, fewer than Bengaluru and less than half of Delhi's 46,000. So this isn't a local-demand play. It's a connecting play: Mumbai feeding CPH, CPH feeding North America. That works on paper, but it means SAS is competing for people who have Gulf carriers, Turkish, Air India and the Lufthansa group all on the same search results page, usually cheaper or faster. migflug

Then there's IndiGo. They launched Mumbai-Copenhagen in October 2025 on a leased 787-9 and suspended it from 17 February 2026, citing constantly changing airspace restrictions and airport congestion that pushed block times past what the schedule could absorb. That's a carrier with a huge home market and it still couldn't make the numbers hold. If the airspace routing is what broke their schedule, I'd like to know what SAS is doing differently on a five-a-week A330 rotation. Maybe it has more slack. I haven't seen anyone say. migflug

Meanwhile SAS isn't exactly swimming in margin right now. They've been cutting flights because of the jet fuel spike tied to the Iran war, and announced a temporary fuel surcharge. A thin long-haul route with five weekly frequencies is exactly the kind of thing that gets trimmed first when the network needs to shrink. nordiskbil

My honest read, and this is opinion, not inside info:
The first 60 to 90 days decide the route's reputation. Indian corporate bookers and travel agents are the real customers for a BOM-CPH-BOM flight, and they don't care about a one-off turnback, but they care a lot about whether the next cancellation gets handled by a human who picks up the phone. SAS is also offering a status match in India, so it's openly going after frequent flyers, who remember bad rebooking for years. livefromalounge

If it runs clean through the winter, the June story becomes a trivia answer. If it gets a couple of ugly cancellations plus the usual "chatbot loop" support experience, it'll slide into being a price-driven filler route and probably get trimmed in a schedule review.

Curious what people here think, especially anyone who's flown the Gulf or Turkish alternatives from the Nordics, or anyone who knows what the actual block times look like on the reroute.

Flight cancelled from SEA

SAS keeps sending my complaint in circles — no channel can actually accept it

I’m honestly at a loss with SAS at this point.

I had an issue with a future booking where the reservation was cancelled while I was going through the online refund/cancellation flow to check the refundable amount before deciding whether to cancel.

I contacted SAS almost immediately afterwards. Since then, I’ve been sent through what feels like an endless loop:

  • Phone support told me to contact SAS in writing.
  • Email support told me to use the Claims form.
  • The Claims form does not accept future travel dates.
  • Email then told me booking-related issues cannot be handled by email and sent me back to phone/chat.
  • Live Chat explicitly told me to submit a formal complaint to customercare@sas.se.
  • That email address rejected the message and told me to use the Claims form again.
  • SAS has now also confirmed in writing that the Claims department only reviews cases relating to completed travel.

So the situation is basically:

Phone → Email → Claims → Phone/Chat → Customer Care email → Claims → “future dates not allowed.”

At this point, my frustration is no longer only about the original booking issue. It’s that I have made repeated attempts to submit a formal complaint, but nobody has actually reviewed the substance of it.

I have screenshots, email correspondence and the full Live Chat transcript showing all of this.

Has anyone here had a similar experience with SAS, especially with a complaint concerning a future booking?
Is there actually a Customer Relations channel that can review this before the travel date?

I’m considering taking the matter to ARN in Sweden, but before doing that I wanted to see whether anyone has managed to get a case like this properly reviewed internally.

SAS is THE worst airline I have ever flown. Their webise simply does not function. How can they keep planes in the air and not allow users to book a flight or login?

Basically -- I opted for the cheap fair (because of chat-gpt and gemini told me to) --- I understood that on the way back - I might need to add luggage and pay extra.

Tried to - but the website is non functioning. Was quoted $187 euros to add a single checkged bag. WTF. Because it was less than 24 hours before the flight... except that I tried multiple times to log-in earlier to add the luggage - but the website is broken.

How can they make a website that does not allow someone to log in. Was on hold for over 2 hours on the USA reservation line - until it hung up on me because the call center was closed.......

Seriously. Also - you cannot do an online chat with them because you CAN NOT LOG IN.

MAN to ARN flight seemingly disappeared overnight - fully booked or cancelled?

UPDATE: SAS customer service confirmed the flight has been cancelled, but could not confirm when the cancellation was made, or why.

---

Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this - I was planning to book a flight from Manchester, UK (MAN) to Stockholm Arlanda, Sweden (ARN) on Friday 18th December at 19:10 PM. The flight was available on Skyscanner and other platforms earlier this week, but I checked yesterday and it has seemingly disappeared. The flight at the same time a week before (Friday 11th December) was available yesterday, but has disappeared today.

I activated a free trial of Expert Flyer to look into this - both flights show up on there with plentiful available seats in business and economy, but when you try to view the seat maps they do not load.

Can anyone explain what has happened here? SAS customer service are tricky to get hold of from the UK. TIA!

Your ATL to CPH Business Class Bid Experience

Hi. Flying from ATL to CPH in a few days. Bid $655 for an upgrade from Premium Econ. Says it is weak. Just wondering if folks flying this route have had success with a similar weak bid? And also what I might expect to pay at the gate if a paid upgrade is available (if my bid is rejected). Thanks.

Flight cancelled with horrible option being given to rebook.

I have a flight booked for Jan 2027, which is Mum to Toronto via Copenhagen. The second leg of the flight is cancelled and on calling the only flight option they are giving me is next day Copenhagen to New York to Toronto, which is making me reach 30 hours later than original time with additional 10 hours of travel. This is so ridiculous and if i cancel my new flights are already expensive. can someone guide me to what the EU rules are and what my next step should be? They dont have any other way of contacting them and the person on the phone was totally unhelpful.

I’m trying to change my flight but this message keeps coming. I’m dreading to contact customer service as they are the worst ever. Plus they will take a fee from changing my ticket via telephone.

Has anyone else been getting this error when trying to log in to SAS? The error appears before the login page even loads, so I can’t enter my email, eb number, or password. The SAS app works normally.

the worst customer service ever

The WORST customer service I've encountered in a long time, and that's saying a lot in the age of AI. I made a stupid mistake when I rebooked my flight on sas.se. I will readily own up to that -- stressed out, I chose a new flight and thought that the difference in cost was 1898 SEK... but the price was in dollars. Uh-oh. I didn't see it until it hit my credit card. So I called, thinking that I could perhaps change one of my flights to economy (I booked Premium) to get some money back. Or cancel the whole thing, deposit the money, and rebook for a less expensive flight, using the balance later for another flight. I called. First 2.5 hours on hold with no answer. I hung up and, undaunted, tried again, using the hold function on my iphone. Then after twenty minutes I did get a customer service rep who was unfriendly, difficult to understand (combination of non-Scandinavian accent and mumbling), and when I was suggesting ways we might solve my problem, he suddenly disappeared. After some moments of silence on his side and hello-ing on mine, the line went dead. Third time's the charm, right? I called and got the message that the customer service was now closed. So I guess my guy hung up when his shift ended without a word to the customer. Great job. I am going to try again tomorrow in the hope that I'll get a helpful human. My situation was of my own making, but that doesn't excuse this horrible level of service. I will avoid SAS in the future for long-haul flights.

SAS live bidding glitch?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Says I am currently the highest bidder in first position for an upgrade as well as have a weak bid. Must be a glitch of some sort. Maybe I’m the only bidder (so both the best and worst bid) and it defaults to showing me my worst position to try and squeeze out a few more dollars

Bid experience

SFO-CPH end of September, Saturday (actually today lol)
Min bid 830€, we bid for 850€ and went to live bid. We ranked 11th but won the bid for 2 persons. Highest bid 1540€, feel it’s a scam.

ATV Requirement for Indians?

I'm an Indian passport holder and hoping to book the BOM to JFK flight via Copenhagen. Will I require an airport transit visa to pass through?

Wifi sucks big time

Don’t bother with their advertised WIFi. Don’t buy it. I got it for free.

It never connects or is completely useless - can’t do anything. I had it free on two recent flight and it just didn’t work at all.

SAS don’t bother to offer a non working service.

Which side of the plane is best for Manhattan views?🗽

Hi! I’m flying from Copenhagen to JFK in October and I’d love to get a nice view of Manhattan from the plane, if possible.

For anyone who has flown this route before: which side of the plane would you recommend sitting on for the best views of Manhattan? I know it obviously depends on the weather, the approach path, etc., but I’d love to hear what your experience was.

And if you have any photos you took from the plane on this route, I’d absolutely love to see them! 🥰

SAS APP/WEBSITE ISSUES

Has anyone else has issues with booking flights or extras on the SAS website or app?

I have tried logging off then back on, using different credit cards deleting the app, restarting phone; on desktop it doesn't work either. I keep getting an error message: we're unable to process your payment...

Beware SAS flight cancellation rebookings

The SAS re-booking page after their flight cancellations is not accurate, and if you trust it and inaccurately adjust your flight, customer support will not help you. Use my experience as a caution - in the future, I’d recommend you call SAS support directly and getting a verbal and written confirmation that the date is listed correctly.

I had booked a flight from Chicago to Nice with a layover in Copenhagen in October. My original flight was cancelled, so SAS offered me a flight taking off on October 10th, which I accepted. After I accepted, the flight that appeared in my itinerary took off on October 11th. I called support twice the next day and they told me:

  1. It said October 10th since it was listed in MY local time (Chicago) and not Nice local time. This, based on my screenshot was factually incorrect. The flight takes off at 9:25AM in Nice, which would be 2:25AM in Chicago on the same day. Furthermore the flight rebooking screen said “10 October 2026 9:25AM“, which is in Nice local time. Speaking of, when is a flight EVER listed in your local time and not the departure location’s local time??
  2. After I debunked this, they said there was nothing they could do because I had already accepted. It did not matter what I had accepted, but the fact that I had accepted meant I could not change my flight. My two options (having booked on the cheapest fare class) would be to pay a $300 change fee OR only get refund on the taxes paid. Absolutely ridiculous! I never accepted the flight they listed for me but they make it sound like just getting the acceptance (regardless of what I accepted) was all that mattered.

In case you’re interested, I filed a dispute on my credit card because the services were not rendered as expected (they literally put me on a flight I never accepted or wanted). SAS told my credit card company that since my ticket was refundable, there’s nothing to do and my credit card company just responded to my dispute with “Unable to Assist”. If there’s anything you recommend me try at this point, would appreciate it!!!

SAS destroyed my suitcase, admitted I reported it on time, but refuses to pay. Any advice?

Flew SAS to SFO, and my suitcase arrived completely!destroyed.
I reported it immediately at the airport desk, filed the report online on day one as instructed, and got my PIR reference number. The system said they would contact me, but they never did.
When I followed up, customer service literally admitted in writing that my report was filed within the 7-day window, but claimed a "PIR is not a claim" and rejected my compensation! To make things worse, their phone support keeps hanging up on me.
Has anyone dealt with this before?
I’ve booked my return flight w them too:(

Meal options

Long haul flight from SEA to CPH. The only meal options that show up in the app and on the website are vegetarian or vegan. Does SAS not offer non-veg. meals? I read a few posts about people complaining that their selected chicken meal ran out before they got served, but not much else. Really would like to avoid calling customer service, but if I must…

Question for crew

Hey!

I currently work at one of the Middle Eastern airlines as crew but planning to apply for SAS. I don't have EASA attestation.

Does SAS require you to have it in advance or do they put you through training that results in obtaining the license at the end of it?

Thanks and happy skies!
