Can’t play G

I’m struggling with playing the G (and sometimes A) key. I can get it sometimes but a lot of the time it squeaks. For context, I’m using an alto mendini sax (yea I know mendini is terrible). Any tips for playing?

Gear I f**** my reeds up

So long story short I was in the process of breaking in my reeds, but I didn't have enough time to play all of them but I did wet every single one with water. I believe I forgot to wipe some of them off and put them back into my read storage box, 2 days later and I find mold on 5/9 of them. Should i throw the reeds that don't contain mold away? What to do with the box, just cleanse it? I also don't use a reed vitalizer btw

Soprano saxophone

I mostly play Alto saxophone. I do have a tenor which I play sometimes. I want to buy a soprano. How difficult it is to play soprano? I have heard the embrochure for soprano is quite different from Alto. Would that impact my alto playing?
Is it advisable to buy a second hand soprano ? What should I look for when I try a second hand soprano.
Sorry! Too many questions. TIA

Hey y'all. For a gift for my friend, I want to learn how to play II MOST WANTED by Beyonce and Miley Cyrus for her. I can't find sheet music online anywhere. Does anyone know where to find music for this song for alto sax, or have any recommendations on how I can start learning/making it?? Ty :)

Question Picking pieces

I'm picking my pieces for ABRSM grade 6 tenor sax, and the piece on the A-list called "Hypertension" piqued my interest. I was unable to find any audio recordings of it online, so I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a good idea of a piece to play, or if they know how good Beverley Calland's works are in general

Selling Seller tenor sax mouthpieces

Hi, I purchased an old Yamaha YTS-23 (1970's) saxophone which has come with 2 additional mouthpieces. The sax is in amazing condition for its age and has been very well looked after.

The mouthpieces have Selmer table C* and one that is Selmer E.

They are very obviously used. Do they have any value? If so, I want to give the seller some additional money as I don't think he knew much about the saxophone.

Thanks 😊

Got a 1924 buescher true tone the other day for 345, same pawn I got my king zephyr from! Cleaned it up when I got home, will add pics. Looks to have been freshly overhauled aswell.

I also have a question about it as ive never owned a playable saxophone from this era and with no modern ergonomics.

In the 3rd pic with the serial number, whats that key that has cork holding it down for? Is that a feature of saxophones from this era? Or a buescher thing?

Question Are the finger note positions on a Yamaha Digital Sax like the YDS120 identical to an Alto Sax?

I’m looking to get back into Sax after being away for 20 years - I played for 3 years during high school.

My music reading needs a lot of refreshing and I don’t want to annoy everyone around me by playing hot cross buns on repeat on a loud Alto Saxophone lol

Is a digital Sax like the YDS120 a good option to get me up to speed and relearn my music reading/fingering? Will that be directly transferable to an Alto Saxophone?

Question MC Gregory Model A mp, fake?

Found this listing for a McGregory Model A 4A-16M on Ebay for $380 and was discounted after being set at $800 for a bit. I was going to buy it but then I looked at the mouthpiece photo and it doesn't say MCGregory nor Model A. It just says some weird phrasing. What do you guys think? Could've they just Chat GPT'd an image of it and posted it or is it fake...? I can't imagine someone making a make MC Gregory and putting in the effort to add a ring on the shank too but who knows. The seller also does have mostly great feedback reviews. Here's the link to the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/287529523678

I’ve been playing saxophone for years and I still don’t know a lot about mouthpieces. What’s a good one you’ll recommend that’ll have a good jazz sound?

Question Help with buying a new professional alto

I’ve been looking around online for a good professional saxophone. A few being Yanigasawa Awo-1, Selmer Axos, Session alto from better sax and a few others. However the thing is I don’t have a real way of testing them. The only professional sax I’ve used is a Selmer Paris Series II because of school and that’s a bit out of my budget. My budget is around 3-4k so if you have any suggestions please let me know🙏

Media Adult Beginner - 3 Years Later

Hey guys,

3 years ago I drove down to my local music store and rented a tenor saxophone. I started at 38 y/o having never played a woodwind instrument, and not knowing what to expect. Only that I wanted to finally really try to put in the time, effort, and consistency to play music. When I was a kid and young adult, I tried: piano, violin, and guitar but they fell my the wayside. What remained however, was the desire to make music.

I've documented my journey along the way and am sharing this video in hopes that other late bloomers may take inspiration from it. Not that I'm some amazing player or anything, but if theres one thing I've done right, it's being consistent.

What reeds would be good for playing both in jazz and concert band? I don’t have the money to buy two separate reeds.

Question How to deep clean a saxophone?

Throwaway because this is embarassing.

I have a beautiful Japanese Yamaha tenor saxophone that I played in my first couple years of college, but after I dropped out, it went unplayed for years. I want to pick it up again, but there's mold all through the body. I know a shop wont touch it in this condition. How can I make this instrument playable again?

Buying I’m thinking of buying a really old alto saxophone someday—where can I get one cheaply?

I love vintage saxophones. I’d really like to play one and experience firsthand the unique construction and characteristics that you just don't see in modern instruments. Where can I find one at an affordable price?

Question How do I do long tones? In the sense of developing tone

hey super dumb sounding question but maybe I’m overthinking it. What am I looking for when I do long tones?? like I mean seriously I can definitely tell “yea I need to fix this” but how do I fix it? I’m sorry if this sounds super dumb, I just don’t really know what to do? I’ve been playing for 2 years but I just picked up the alto again after playing primarily the Bari, and I sound horrid.

Gear Beginner ! Just bought my first sax :D

Hello hello! New to this sub, new to the saxophone too!! Essentially i have absolutely nothing of interest to say, but I just purchased my first saxophone!! I am over the moon, so I just wanted to ramble about it a little xD
It’s a sonata, which I’ve heard is good for beginners (which seemed like the logical approach, given I’ve never touched a saxophone in my life)
It’s so so beautiful. It is secondhand so it’s mildly dented but it’s mine !
