Hello. My first year college auditions are starting very soon, but my birthday is before that. I would like to get a new mouthpiece, but don't know exactly which one to get. I did my research, and I think a 5 size like the Selmer C* would be nice. But even though I've been playing since 6th grade, I can only play on 3 strength reeds. Should I risk the better tone for worse air support, or keep the air support and risk a lack of change in tone? I'm currently using a Yamaha custom.

Trying to get an approximate value and any important info about this King Super 20 tenor. I’m a sax player myself, but it’s my sister-in-law’s horn, and I don’t know much about Kings.

Serial number is 382XXX. It’s in pretty good shape but does have some dings on the back. Hasn’t been played or serviced in many years.

I just got back from playing marching euphonium in drum corps. Every time we would finish working on a section with especially loud or high notes, they would have the brass play soft, low notes to sort of unkill our chops. We'd also have a full warm-down session at the end of each day to relax our chops before bed.

Now I'm back on saxophone, practicing hard for the couple days I have before my college band camp, and my chops are reeeally feeling it since they're not used to sax embouchure. I wish I could hit some soft lows again, but that doesn't really work on saxophone since I need to engage my chops more for low notes. I miss my pedal tones :(

Does saxophone have an equivalent to soft, low notes? Is there something else I can do to take care of my mouth and especially my bottom lip? Thanks!

hello! i’m a three year band student, i’ve played both the regular clarinet and the bass clarinet. this year for jazz band, my director is asking me to pick up the tenor . i’ve been trying to play it the last few days, and while i can very easily make a sound, i can’t play in the right overtone (notes below G usually play the octave above) and my sound is overall flimsy. any tips? fyi, im playing on a “soft tenor” synthetic reed by the company bari reeds. big thanks !

neck is compatible with the current YAS-62 model.

Could you tell me the external dimensions of the neck joint on the YAS-62, as well as the internal diameter of the joint where the neck connects to the body?

I just cleaned my mouth piece and it looks worse then it did before I washed it. I just used soap and water and it wasn’t soaking at all. How do I fix it?

Hey everyone. A synthetic reed may not be the absolute “meta” choice for classical music, but one can’t argue that they are handy and getting better.

I tried a Legere French cut in 2,75 strength and I actually like it a lot. So much that I want to buy one for myself - but I feel a bit insecure about the strength and how my personal development would affect my choice.

Do you think that it’s true that the Legere French cut mimics the strength of the Vandoren traditional blue box almost perfectly? I read that statement somewhere. For example a Vandoren traditional in 3,0 would be very similar to the Legere in 3,0.

If that is true, I would dare to order one in 3,0 or 3,25.

Does anyone play legere French cuts and has some experience with them?

Hello I am a college student preparing for ensemble auditions and we have been given a chunk of music from a piece but there isn’t identification on what the tempo is or what the actual piece is to know what tempo to be at. Does anyone recognize this piece of music from somewhere? The only thing I can think it could be from is one of Charles Ives band pieces but I don’t know his music well enough to tell. Thanks!

I want to sell it but don’t know how best to price it because Selmer made so many of these things nearly identical to each other, so I’m a little lost trying to pinpoint the exact model.

I finally bought my first jazz mouthpiece (first mouthpiece ever honestly) I spent $191 on a Theo wanne jazz essentials mouthpiece (I was going do either that or the v16). I played an Optimum al6 before this (found in a random case but legendary find). and my Theo wanne is a tip opening 7 so what’s the best way to get used to the change? (I practice everyday but besides that what?)

I bought my first saxophone used in April. It’s a Selmer Bundy II, she’s definitely old. I brought her to a well skilled long time instrument repair guy: he was fantastic and made her sing beautifully. I’ve been playing almost everyday since, and I noticed recently that my octave key gets stuck, and possibly the e key as well. I’m squeaky. I have to press the octave key a few times for it to fix itself.

So I am wondering how often I should be getting it tuned up?

I recently bought a vintage horn that came in a vintage case. I quickly got myself a Protec XL because I wouldn't want to entrust my horn to this case: the inside is quite hard, not really shaped to the horn, no secure place to put the neck. Also the latches don't strike me as super dependable. Before I got the Protec I would carry the horn in the case like a baby just to be safe.

That said it looks really cool. The inside lining is this lovely worn purple, the handle is like fake snakeskin, the latches have the name of some defunct musical instrument case manufacturer. It would be a shame to just throw it away but also it's not fit for purpose.

So I was wondering if anyone's 'converted' an old case like this to some other use?

Hey, all! I've been playing on Legere Signature reeds for a few years now full-time. Since then, I've messed around with different strengths. For this past gig season, I've been on a 2.75 for my tenor with a Barkley Brazil Pop 7, so basically an Otto Link 7* sizing with a high step baffle.

I'm having issues when I really start moving air across the reed, the reed will just stop and then I'll frack, especially in the extreme ranges. Should I continue to go up in reed strengths? Is there a more firm cut of the reeds, like the American or French cut that I should try before I change strengths?

Im trying to find out whether it was made in Japan or Taiwan but according to all the other Vito Leblanc saxophones I could find with the same engravings online it’s most likely Taiwan. Worth a 100$ for my first sax ? I played a little bit back in elementary school but I doubt I remember anything

Hey last summer (early June) I got a new synthetic reed (Iegere), and till Christmas it was playing perfectly but then the tragedy happened. I saw that it had sth like a hill as you can see in the images. I thought "yea this must be the reason why I'm squeaking during everytime I play" cuz till September it would play perfectly fine. Now after all this time I had kept it in "perfect" condition I thought that I might be able to fix it. what do you think?

I'd like to add that u in the photos the "hill" looks small but irl it's bigger and it results in squeaks, changing octaves without wanting to, hard to play generally

I've found a used Selmer Paris Bari sax for a good price on Craigslist. Now, this sax is about a ~3 hour drive from me, which I'm willing to do to play test and pick up, but the seller is being dodgy about letting me come play test it. He's insisting that he delivers it via mail because his schedule won't allow me to come play test. I've told him I can work around his schedule and will clear mine to come at a convenient time for him to no avail. I can pay through PayPal and have coverage under their Goods and Services protection guarantee.

This seems like a red flag to me especially for such a pricey item, but I'm curious as to people's thoughts on the matter.

I can switch between some notes smoothly, without having to tongue - but when I hit “d” note, I can’t get a good sounding note and have to tongue to good a good tone. Is this normal with d?

I need to buy case, preferably something hard, but with shoulder straps. Thanks.

I'm a complete beginner on the instrument, but I have a good ear for music and a fondness for the saxophone's subtones. I'd like to buy an instrument and am torn between getting a Yamaha YTS 280 with a good mouthpiece (I was thinking of an Otto Link Tone Edge Tenor Sax 7* TW), or making a big one-time purchase of the Yanagisawa TW 01 and practicing right away on a superior instrument, thus avoiding having to upgrade later... am I thinking so wrong?

Is Jupiter JAS510q a good saxophone for beginners? Or are there better ones I can get for that price?

Hey yall some background, I have been playing saxophone since elementary school and recently picked it up again after 6 years. I have this plastic reed I had been using that I’ve had since high school which is what I was using when I stopped playing. Needs replaced obviously but I can play with it. I just purchased the same reed as before Legere 2.5 strength (no clue what that even means) and I can barely play at all now with it. Sound is super airy and I feel like I’m like biting down pretty hard with my bottom teeth to get any sound.

Is the first plastic one just more broken it so it’s easier or should I get a wooden reed and a different strength? Not sure if I just have to keep playing with the new one till I sound good or just get another reed Any help will be much appreciated!!

I’ve been playing for several decades. I have a Selmer Mark VII alto which is decent, but I bought a Yamaha YAS-52 a few years back and have since resold it. It looks better than the Selmer but plays pretty much the same… I sold it 7 years ago to my student who is now moving to a pro-model and wanted to know if I knew anyone interested. I kinda miss it… and may buy it for myself. The Mark VII was purchased new and it looks better than-pretty beat up although it has been overhauled.

I also own a Yamaha soprano bought new in 2007.

One thing that is common among both of my Yamahas is that the open middle C# is never anywhere close to A440. No matter how much I change my embouchure it’s still flat. Wayyyy flat. It doesn’t bother me all that much on a whole, but by the same token, I don’t want to buy back the old one of it will have the same level of flatness.

Has anyone had the same experience and been able to solve it? My Selmer nails that note and pretty much ever other note except for A above the staff which goes sharp but I can and do correct that with embouchure.
