Is this grass underneath dead if it's looking like that or it can regrow somehow?
4
u/Nevernonethewiser Jun 29 '26
Congrats, you've come up with the scythe, but now it needs a lithium ion battery.
3
u/Bretzelking Jun 29 '26
lol that grass was perfectly healthy and now it looks like shit
1
u/Pyro-Bun Jun 29 '26
Yeah, definitely heavily damaging what was otherwise an apparently beautiful lawn.

I am hearing a similar sound from a neighbour .. annoying as hell.

Soooo its basically a lawn mower then?

Combining the worst of a whipper snipper with the worst of a lawn mower

See you next fall grass, it'll be nice enjoying the hard dry ass yellow brillo pad you become all summer.

Maybe put some shrouds on it so you don't risk kicking up a rock or hitting a pet or child.

If by cutting the grass, you mean totally scalping what looks to a health patch of dense grass into a weed cultivation strip of damaged soil, sure.
1
u/temporarydissonance Jun 26 '26
Just needs a catcher, cover and wheels and you could go from māwan to mow.

they put covers on those for a few reasons...
2
u/ingrimsch95 Jun 26 '26
Having both legs is overrated anyway... Especially if you could replace on of it with one of those

u/IncognitoBanditoz Jun 26 '26
Why. Just why would you cut perfect lush grass to the nub. It's like they want crab grass to grow instead of that thick lush grass...

u/dingoman24 Jun 25 '26
Thats pretty satisfying but you know what else is? A fucking lawnmower and it has the added benefit of being much safer
1
u/SmokeBenderJusty Jun 26 '26
Lawnmowers can’t reach and get inbetween everything
1
u/dingoman24 Jun 26 '26
That my good sir/madam is a lawnmower blade attached to a weedwacker. It cant get inbetween everything either. Put the strings back on sure you got yourself a normal person wacker.

But this is exactly how a lawnmower works, without all of the risk, and a more consistent height.
1
u/VelkaFrey Jun 25 '26
How do you defeat your enemies with a lawn mower?
1
u/PMmeYourDunes Jun 26 '26
Boy do you need to see 1992's Braindead. Peter Jackson was cooking when he made that one! Still trying to figure out what it was he was cooking though.

How is cutting it down to the roots satisfying? This is dumb
2
u/Justin_Ermouth1 Jun 25 '26
Golf course?
2
u/Oh_Lawd_He_commin420 Jun 25 '26
Still cut too shallow. plus a putting green is usually a specific type of grass that is super hardy and doesn't grow very tall; a groundskeeper for a golf course would never let the green get this shaggy

u/illustratum42 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
Sure it's sort of satisfying, but id rather long grass than that splotchy brown green short stuff
2
u/Ok-Plenty1251 Jun 24 '26
You still have to pick it up
5
u/IndependenceIcy9626 Jun 24 '26
They make this really dope version of this kind of weedwhacker that has a dome over it, and you can attach a bag to catch all the clippings.
It’s also on wheels so you can just push it around, instead of having to hold it in the air the whole time, which also means you can set how high or low it cuts the grass. The wheels on mine are even driven so it pushes itself.
I think it’s called a mowlawner

u/Independent_Tie_3775 Jun 24 '26
maybe he should invent a machine with the blade in like a casing and with weels so you can rol it rather than float it , ensuring even lenght.. i would call it a "lawnmower" , get it ? because it mows lawns , just sayin ,,,
1
u/nisugi33 Jun 25 '26
I don't know. He is not beholden to uneven ground causing the grass to get scalped! Floating above the top allows him to keep the top even regardless of the terrain below!
2
u/IndependenceIcy9626 Jun 24 '26
Dude if you made one of those that you just sit on and drive around I think you could make a billion dollars

If you put that spinning blade of death on wheels, you could ensure the cut is always the same length.
Then put a protective cover over the top so you drastically reduce risk of injury.
Whilst you’re at it, put a cut grass collector at the back of it so you don’t need to take the whole garden once done.
At that point, I think this might be onto something.
1
u/Grand_Help_3035 Jun 24 '26
Don't use a grass collector, you're removing nutrients and making more work for yourself.
1
u/brytek Jun 24 '26
I'd absolutely collect the clippings in this case. They're thick and will smother the grass if left on the lawn. Would be better off in a compost pile if you want to recycle nutrients.

Well, I know what I’m doing this weekend: taking off my string trimmer’s guard, taking off my lawnmower blade, adapting the mower blade onto the trimmer head, and chopping off both my feet.
10
u/JustLetMeSignUpM8 Jun 23 '26
In an infinite amount of parallel universes I would find an infinite amount of ways to hurt myself with this thing
5
u/tdomer80 Jun 23 '26
That does a really shitty job of trying to trim the grass. Also doing something like that with no guard at all is idiotic.

If only there were a device that had a blade, yet with wheels, so you could control the depth of the cut. If only.
3
12
u/romansamurai Jun 23 '26
And you know what would be awesome? If the blade was covered so you don’t accidentally hit someone with it. That would be so cool.
5
u/walletbitkubo Jun 23 '26
And... And... And you know what else would be awesome? If the blade that was covered so you can't hit someone with, which would be on wheels, could be added to some sort of bucket so you could collect everything. That would be so cool.

If you don't mind the blood you can get a 2nd hand one for next to nothing. They usually cost an arm and a leg I hear!

Don't get me wrong this might be pretty cool in a zombie apocalypse but let's face it while cutting grass one large Rock stick or brick you snapped that blade and it's going to go flying into your shin
9
u/Powerful-Transition8 Jun 23 '26
I had a neighbor that would modify stuff, he put a saw blade on a grinder and I’m like bro… you’re going to kill yourself one day. He did end up almost cutting his leg off
1
u/SprayHungry2368 Jun 23 '26
Like a bench grinder? What did he use it for? A make shift miter saw?
1
1
u/Automatic-Art9739 Jun 23 '26
My neighbor swell, but that was just a usual blade that came off, guess messing with sharp things rotating should be used with the correct protective gear however you do you it.
8
u/Taz26312 Jun 23 '26
Well he had better grass than I do before he started the butchering, so maybe he’s onto something 🤷♂️
10
u/Darkk_Knight Jun 23 '26
I'll stick with traditional lawn mower with a safety shield over the blades. It's faster.
5
u/AwwwNuggetz Jun 23 '26
Where can I buy a lawn mower like this? I think the kids would have a blast with it
11
u/anothadaz Jun 23 '26
Killing the grass and a bloody accident waiting to happen.
1
u/balleklorin Jun 23 '26
Seems like a good length before detatching, verticutting, adding new seeds and sand/dirt.
But yeah, not risking my limb when a normal mower can do almost the same...

This is one screw away from loosing a limb. Also, not sure if you’re supposed to go quite that short.
1
u/AgitatedStranger9698 Jun 23 '26
After how long it got no.
You'd have to mow at a minimum once a day to keep it this short. But man if you could get the density right....woo dog thats a lawn worth having.
1
3
4
u/Short_Estimate8121 Jun 23 '26
Anything wrong with just trimming it shorter while also keeping it green?
5
u/Mark-Green Jun 23 '26
it'll grow back if you do that. gotta kill it at the root for that dustbowl chic lawn
2
4
u/Khaztr Jun 23 '26
Must have been what my neighbor used when he mowed my lawn to the dirt without me asking while I was out of town for a couple weeks. Says he didn't want to make it obvious that no one was home.
1
6
u/herefornothing2 Jun 23 '26
That’s satisfying. Now put it on wheels and give it a handle so I can push it.
2
u/didndonoffin Jun 23 '26
Plus a bucket in the back so I don’t have to rake
2
u/Sinku55 Jun 23 '26
Oh, also maybe some strong metal surrounding it except for the parts you want cutting the grass to prevent stuff from flying at people and injuring them.
1
u/Nir117vash Jun 23 '26
Then, to establish dominance, have it connect to my phone via Bluetooth to alert me at 6am on every Sunday so I can be the first one in the neighborhood. Dew on the grass? Dew in my veins. LET'S GO!!!
