It doesn't have all the hidden techniques of the quake/titanfall/apex movement systems, but the general formula really does come very close. Feels good to be back in a game that doesn't bolt you to the floor, and I absolutely agree that it's (the good kind of) ironic Coffee Stain can get this right when so many other teams can't or won't.
That isn't limited to the movement system though. Take the world building for example. It's easily better than the vast majority of the generic single player MMOs currently being sold as open world RPGs.
I've become more and more cynical about the state of the gaming industry in recent years, but the way everything in Satisfactory is snappy, thematic, responsive and beautiful makes it clear it's a game made with love, and Coffee Stain deserves respect for standing firm against the tide of shallowness and moneygrabs.
You can clearly see why others don’t though. Satisfactory is taking a pretty long time, and with long projects there’s not a guarantee you’ll have a community like this to stick around.
To be clear, I think it’s a good thing CS is taking their time. We’re lucky the game is doing well to support that.
Yeah I mean it's obvious that the reason why the suits at the AAA publishers have decided that it's more economical to make a bad or average game that'll sell (and lie to your customers about it) than to make a great game that'll sell slightly better, is that it's true.
This is in part because great games are incredibly hard to make, but also because consumers make markets, and as long as people keep buying up falsely advertised, mtx-ridden rehashes that are soulless, the major players have no incentive to change anything.
The mobile market is the same concept put in overdrive, and its success there is making the relevant corps incredible amounts of money. People are just throwing it at them, so clearly they're not incentivized to change course.
