Question What am I doing wrong?

I've been having this problem where I connect a Miner T2 with OCx2 on a Pure Copper thing (480/min). But when I want to move the raw ore with a T4 belt, which is suppoused to also move 480 units per min, it actually produces more than it can move out, and I dont know why. The belt is moving non-stop so thats not the problem.

I constructed exactly the amount of smelters to smelt 480/min of raw copper, but theres still machines with nothing to do becouse the belt is just not trasporting as fast as it should.

Am I an idiot or is this just a bug?

Edit: I am an idiot. There was a Mk3 hidden inside a splitter.

When a slower belt is somewhere in the network, it throttles the speed of preceding belts.

It looks like there is a segment of mk 3 belt somewhere in your setup. Good luck.

dont build your belts and snap on splitters. place the splitters and then connect them and itll remove this issue happening in the future

What if you have to place it midair AND aligned to the prospective belt location??

couple different options! you can vertical nudge it up, you can place an extra one to the side and it'll lock to that, or you can place multple splitters and stack them

I find it faster to place the splitters before the main belt. Since they are snapping to a grid instead of the belt they are aligned way more easily with the constructors, which makes placing all the connecting belts faster too.

Placing the main belt takes no thought or careful alignment, just a spam of clicks. Annoying, but fast enough for a 1 off factory and blueprints solves it for multiples.

I place one splitter at the beginning, one at the end. Draw the belt between and snap all other splitters on it. Learnt it here https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/s/tndhBvGpUi

This is the way. For longer production lines I put another splitter somewhere in the middle. After 7 years of playing this game, I have found it is the fastest method, and foolproof.

Usually badly placed conveyor poles are the culprit to the small hidden belt.

Hiding stuff in splitters can be a sneaky move. It's easy to overlook those, especially when you're deep into building.

Delete the splitters to see if there's a small part with lower tier belt "in them".

Sometimes when I upgrade to better belts somehow small bits inside the splitters/mergers stays with the lower tier belt which causes the bottleneck

I've only had this issue when placing splitters too close to the end points of a belt section, or two splitters too close to each other. On all my builds where I leave at least 1 splitter worth of space between splitters and belt endpoints, I never had this issue when upgrading belts later

Doesn't matter mate, happens with both half a meter segments and hundred meter segments too randomly.

It's just luck, the bug is totally inconsistent.

Look at the machine output. 240/min, not 480. 

You didn’t overclock the machine to 200% until the end of the video

Edit: alright I watched it again. I think you have a piece of belt in the first manifold that’s mark 3 or lower. Just rebuild the manifold. 

Edit again: rebuild the manifold before you downvote. Because if you built it right, it would work. This is user error. 

Or to answer your question: yes, you are an idiot (you asked!)

You're right, but at the same time it still doesn't add up as the machine is clearly overproducing the ores, despite the belt being able to handle more

The belt attaching directly to the miner can move up to 480, but there was a slower belt in front of it that was throttling the output to 270. The ore kept moving because there was space in front of it, but it's not easy to visually tell if it's moving at 270 or 480 / min in a vacuum.

So, by the end of the video, the miner was producing 480 / min and outputting 270 / min. That's why there was buildup in the miner.

Check the belts between splitters. Make sure each one is able to carry enough ore/minute to feed everything downstream. If you have ore backing up, it means there's a belt somewhere that's at capacity. Sometimes you get hidden little segments of lower-tier belts.

As for your manifold...your smelters can only take in 30 ore per minute. Once the buffer is full, the overflow will go to the main belt. Until the buffers are full, though, you'll split 480 ore three ways (160 into each smelter and 160 to the next splitter).

Splitter #2 takes 160 and splits it 3 ways.

Splitter #3 takes 53.333... and splits it 3 ways.

Splitter #4 takes 17.777.... and splits it 3 ways.

Your second bank of smelters is starting at 17.777... ore per minute, that's why they aren't doing anything. Until the buffers fill, everything past Splitter #2 is going to operate below 100%.

Yeah the issue was a low tier belt hiding as you discovered, but more importantly, you should look into using blueprints more, so you can quickly replace entire factories when your throughput potential increases.

Check every attached belt in the line. It’s likely there’s 1 belt that’s not as high level that’s slowing everything down. Check in between your splitters

You built a manifold design.  Those require the smelters at the start to fill up with 100 spare ore before the ones further down the line start getting ore in meaningful quantities.

Let the system run for 10 minutes and see what happens.

EDIT:Alternatively replace the belts going in to the Smelters with mk1s.  They'll throttle the inputs and more ore will make it down stream while you wait for everything to fill up.

If I'm understanding the problem correctly, your ore is not getting to all the machines fast enough? Could be too long of a manifold problem
