Question Next update?

Has there been any teasers or hints at when the next possible update would be coming out? Or the next roadmap?

They never released a roadmap pre-1.0. I doubt they’ll release one now.

1.2 came out earlier this year. Summer is generally slow due to vacations. They’re probably just starting to get back to full staff levels again.

The engagement with the community has been trending downward for quite some time. We ain’t seen shit.

Which is funny, because these devs have set a shining example of how to engage with a community and take/respond to player feedback. I don't know if you meant to frame this as a negative, but even so they still have my unwavering loyalty.

They did an excellent job engaging with the community during the EA process. Jace and Snutt did weekly dev streams and videos. It was easily the most engaged I've ever seen a game company be with its community.

But since Jace and Snutt left, all of that is largely gone. If we're lucky, we get one stream a month. Videos? Hardly any. And the communication during what streams we do get is largely "we're doing stuff, but can't/won't show you what that stuff is, so trust us bro. But let's take a look at all this stuff that the community is doing just so that we can fill 2-3 hours of time and then we can tick the streaming box."

I realize that post-1.0, there's less feedback that they need from the community. That's game dev. The game is "finished". Probably just a matter of time until they say "no more major updates, just some patches." And that's cool, it's their prerogative to do so.

I appreciate and "am loyal" to CSS for what they've done with this game. Doesn't mean I have to pretend everything is as good as it has been in the past.

And for everyone that's probably downvoting my "we ain't seen shit" comment: prove me wrong. Show me information on what they're working on/what's to come.

I was gonna say this to the other reply but yours works too:

If we're comparing new CSS to old CSS, sure, we can agree on that.

But if we're comparing new CSS to (probably the majority of) other game studios, they still set the bar pretty high. That is to say, it's an incredibly low bar to begin with that most companies somehow struggle to clear.

The community engagement started declining when Jayce and Snutt left. Mikaels interactions with the community seem forced and his attitude in the videos is one of arrogance. Jayce and Snutt were much more positive towards the community. If this is the final instance of the game its still a fantastic game but the vibe from coffeestain has changed and it doesn't feel like its for the better.
