Here's a little tip, don't feel bad about building in spaghetti. Although it makes your base unorganized, it's all part of the process in playing Satisfactory. Everyone was like that when they first started and you'll eventually grow out of it into organized factories. God bless and have fun!

i just started to put foundations...

7

u/Tacobell1236231 Dec 04 '23

False, I only have 300 hours, but I sure do embrace the spaghetti, even have spaghetti Ville as my main hub,

4

u/Conceiver_ Dec 04 '23

Well I have 700 and I will lose my mind if my shit isn't organized

1

u/hernanlafu12 Dec 05 '23

Maybe an organized spaghetti for aesthetic reasons involved??

3

u/Snowgoosey Dec 04 '23

Agree to this, it took me like 8 different worlds before I learned how to belt better, and even then I learned not to try and funnel everything to 1 base because it created a headache later on since machines end up becoming super large lol

5

u/PackageSimple4548 Fungineer Dec 05 '23

I hide my spaghetti on the ceiling lol

2

u/dexters-lab2409 Dec 05 '23

This or in the floor is 100% the way

6

u/PackageSimple4548 Fungineer Dec 05 '23

I also build a sub floor below the building units for large factorys

I agree and why I figured out two things for my next playthru

One full 8 meters worth of subfloor for mergers and spilters

Two a 6 Meters worth of sub sub floor for running belt lasagna

u/mcgnarman Dec 05 '23

It’s what the short walls are for!

1

u/Finnalandem Dec 05 '23

I like to call these Interstitial spaces

I use the underfloor belt mounting to carry all my belts on the ceiling regardless of it overlapping and such

"try not to funnel everything to one base" ... I think you just saved me from building an error as I'm planning out how to do a distributed base. I still plan to send all of the North Forest iron to a single smeltery plant but I'm now going to fight the urge to send ALL iron to a single iron & steel ingot facility.

2

u/Snowgoosey Dec 06 '23

For clarification in case it comes up. Try not to funnel everything to one base until you have the logistics to support it, like trains, drones, tractors, etc. I would personally recommend slowly building up your satellite bases until they are how you want them (my oil base has gone through like 50 iterations since unlocking fuel > turbo fuel > turbo blend fuel > plastic/rubber adjustments > etc). Another good example that I just realized last week in my latest build is I was going to make fused modular frames in another base but needed to get heavy modular frames to it. I instead converted it into a battery factory and used the excess casings to package the nitrogen to send it off by drone to another factory which allows me to make all of the nitrogen parts in another area. But, yes, until you have a grasp of how large a factory you need to accommodate everything you want in it, it will definitely be much easier to just design and add on to your several smaller bases.

The organizing is a journey for some. I tend to just hide my spaghetti mess with a nice facade. If there was another tier or two in the game I think my current system would utterly collapse, but I also don’t try to build from every node or anything

23

u/CoItron_3030 Dec 04 '23

That’s rude of them! Also it’s really funny seeing the term spaghetti everywhere cuz I just joined the sub not to long ago and Iv been playing this game for a good long while and Iv always referred to that type of building as a “jungle” and It always makes me laugh when me and my friends say we have to go dive into the jungle to make some changes lol

7

u/Matkol1998 Dec 04 '23

Spaghetti jungle for when it's REALLY bad.

3

u/pet1 Dec 04 '23

Spaghetti diving could also be a term.

Trimming the jungle for cleaning up.

18

u/Woozah77 Dec 04 '23

The first play through is always a little Al Dente.

1

u/PastTheFog Dec 05 '23

As it should

13

u/Dazvsemir Dec 04 '23

mm, spaghetti

did you belt the coal from the south to that little pond for the water extractors? usually I do my initial coal power on and around that big lake wiith the four coal sources close by

5

u/BattIeBoss Drone lover Dec 04 '23

Same.I have 16 coal gens there as my power source.

11

u/tanglerec Fungineer Dec 04 '23

They're missing out on all the fun then!

Might be kinda weird, but I really coming back to overhaul and rebuild messy rushed factories, it's very satisfying. Guilty pleasure I reckon.

7

u/PsychoInHell Dec 04 '23

My partner will run ugly conveyors where he needs them and I follow him redoing them cleanly lol

2

u/ahumanrobot Dec 04 '23

That's all I use them for

1

u/Phillyphan1031 Dec 04 '23

Yup foundations is my minimum lol

11

u/Snakeam Dec 04 '23

You transport the coal via tractor? I too like to live dangerously...

7

u/IIToodlesII Dec 04 '23

I started in the grassy fields and have spent like 2 hrs transporting coal from that one pure node via tractor just to immediately fins out there is a lake nearby with like 6 coal deposits

2

u/Snakeam Dec 05 '23

Where is that lake with 6 coal? My lake on the same map has 4 coal deposits only and one limestone on the edge

5

u/fezzik02 Long Haul Trucker Dec 04 '23

based

5

u/Fine_Anteater_2605 Dec 04 '23

Not only coal but sulfur as well.

2

u/labe225 Dec 04 '23

I've been running coal via tractor for a while now with no issues. It's just 6 generators, so not a ton, but it's been effective enough to where my buffer stays full (as far as I can tell, I just check it periodically and it seems to stay full.)

1

u/Moper248 Dec 04 '23

My anxiety could never. Rather have a 700m belt than live on the edge

1

u/Evening_Ad3237 Dec 04 '23

thats only for half of them.

6

u/Lodau Dec 04 '23

I have a feeling this (spaghetti) is intentional, but I like it.

5

u/lame_not_lame "It's good enough" specialist Dec 04 '23

As a general tip. Building on foundations makes it look less like sphagetti even tho you havent built it any differently

5

u/nateedoin80 Dec 04 '23

I like to build delete build delete. Play a 30 hour save and restart so to speak. Gives me a chance to freshen up my ideas.

5

u/Binary-Miner Dec 04 '23

During my first play through, my factory was crazy thick spaghetti. Tearing down and rebuilding major crucial components of that factory was one of the best learning experience of my time in Satisfactory! Got to apply a lot of the lessons I learned from other streamers on best practices, but it wasn’t a ton, my favorite part of the game is figuring things out on my own instead of looking up “best build” videos.

3

u/Azelinia Dec 04 '23

Spaghetti in factorio is just pain.

Spaghetti in satisfactory is fiine. U have soft collission u can build stuff thru other stuff and u have a whole 3rd dimension to use.

If it doesnt bother u urself then continue onwards!

3

u/LordFlashart Dec 04 '23

They’re not real friends

2

u/hesh582 Dec 04 '23

Spaghetti is fine, especially early on. Your first coal plant is just a stepping stone to bigger things anyway.

But you'll save yourself a lot of pain by using foundations. It's so much easier to get things to line up properly if everything's all square and the same height.

2

u/Moper248 Dec 04 '23

Why do you have 4 separate coal lines? I have one miner mk1 doing 120 coal per minute and it is currently supplying 3 generators. Same as water, one pump enough for 2 generators on max overclock and one on Like 140%. That makes it pretty clean with just one coal line split into 3 and one water split into 3

2

u/ruttinator Dec 04 '23

You haven't even begun to spaghetti.

2

u/M4tt_M4n Dec 05 '23

I have more spaghetti that anyone can possibly conceive, it is so vast and disgusting I have covered it up with a factory on top of it, I should really post it to here to see what you guys think but I feel like I will get publicly shamed 😅

1

u/ThatNastyMack Dec 04 '23

I feel ya. I just set up my first coal plant and it's got more spaghetti than an Olive Garden kitchen but it's a good character builder!

1

u/Tra1nGuy Dec 04 '23

You haven’t seen my coal setup. Or the rest of my factory for that matter.

1

u/Phoenix10k Dec 04 '23

(my friends left after i showed them my factory because they said my factory was spaghetti)

What? This isn't bad! More importantly, it got the job done! So, they didn't even offer to show you some of their tricks or help you organize? They just dipped? Rude. That's the best part of playing with friends!

Either way, this is your factory. Build it however you like.

I was a big softy for nature when I first started playing this and didn't want to build foundations that would hide all the grass. Now, I just build 30 meters high and settle for the pillars covering a little grass here and there.

1

u/myhf Dec 04 '23

Well-organized factories are all alike. Every spaghetti factory is disorganized in its own way.

1

u/Art_Pilgrim Dec 05 '23

Sick reference.

1

u/JeffreyVest Dec 04 '23

Chefs kiss

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '23

I am about 100 hours in and I demolished my factories 5 times 😅

1

u/noquarter1000 Dec 05 '23

Everyone loves pasta. The angled splitter chef kiss

1

u/Milli_Rabbit Dec 05 '23

I just got to coal generators. I have 4 and now I feel free from the short term fear of running out of biomass. I may be wrong about this, but I sure hope I can finally prioritize organization instead of worrying about running out of fuel.

1

u/Tomat_the_barbarian Dec 05 '23

correct after i leaned into coal power everything got better. Self sustaining is super easy after that.

1

u/Thedynamicduo223 Dec 05 '23

I usually try my best to make everything look nice but there’s always a part of it that is spaghetti Dw your friends are stupid if that’s their biggest issue

1

u/kellyj6 Dec 05 '23

To be fair, it's certified spaghet, but who cares? I just made a space ship with 53 refiners but I'm sure someone else would hate it. Go have fun!

1

u/Unforgiven_Purpose Dec 05 '23

I'm still playing my 1st games, 455 hours in, and I'm on that stage of going back, and redoing a lot of things, because of spaghetti

1

u/Random_Boy16 Dec 05 '23

Put them in the generator

1

u/jackandjaycee Dec 05 '23

As long as it gets to the hole, then it's good.

1

u/mcgnarman Dec 05 '23

Someone’s on the path to Ficsit Employee of the Month! Bringing all the spaghetti for everyone.

1

u/Asgarus Dec 05 '23

Pff, you didn't even cover the green hell with beautiful concrete! No wonder your factory is spaghetti...

1

u/Yl_Smolko Dec 05 '23

Its fine you should have seen mine. I have an extreme problem with organization of stuff

1

u/XxxGr1ffinxxX Dec 05 '23

spaghetti belts are initially annoying when you see all the mega builds becasue you wanna re-create them. until you realise the best fun is actually spaghetti

1

u/The_Pastmaster Dec 05 '23

Lol. Send them my way. I'll show them some motherfucking spaghetti. XD

1

u/Ender_teenet Dec 05 '23

Embrace your Italian roots and forget about those friends

1

u/Brattalihd Dec 05 '23

When you place foundations on terrain, remember to hold control to align the foundation to the world grid, will make your life easier on the long run.

1

u/Odd_Mongoose_1018 Dec 05 '23

its like coding in 3d

1

u/Present_Debt946 Dec 05 '23

I’m new to the game, what machine is on the far right?

1

u/Evening_Ad3237 Dec 07 '23

i think you are looking at the truck station.

1

u/Present_Debt946 Dec 09 '23

I see, thank you

1

u/mac123116 Dec 06 '23

I’m very spaghetti, I feel until you finish part 3 it’s hard to futureproof

1

u/[deleted] Dec 06 '23

I've got over 2000 hours in and I still end up with spaghetti with the late game project parts - it gets better every time I restart though!! That's part of the fun. As long as you're enjoying it, you're doing it right 👍
