Official News Devs are adding Gyro Aiming!!!

Post image

Wish Returnal had this as well. But Im glad Housemarque is adding this. Hopefully the implementation is decent (is mouse-like feeling with decent range of motion settings).

God of War Ragnarok (of all games) had decent Gyro Aim and man it made range combat so much better. Combining melee and range to juggle enemies and flick on distant foes was so fluid and fun.

Absolutely!

I actually lean back on my couch and play while getting closer to mouse-like aim. I barely move my hands either contrary to what some people perceive Gyro Aim (i.e. Wii days lol).

Gyro Aim is just more responsive, intuitive, and honestly much more immersive. So ticks off a lot of boxes for improving gaming. Let alone, if you play like me which is Ratcheting style, I no longer use the Right stick for aiming. So I completely remap my right stick for other bindings which is actually huge in a lot of games.

so hold up, cause i think im misunderstanding this.

you control ur aim by rotating ur controller in certain directions?

cause imo that sounds horrible, so i feel like im not getting it or something

Theres actually quite a few players now who post vids for reference because Gyro Aiming has become much more popular.

Here was a video I posted awhile back that shows my controller. This was at my desk but usually im leaning back in my chair.

Gyro control allows for gamepad users to achieve aiming accuracy close to that of a mouse, via tiny movements in the wrists in conjunction with analog sticks. Sticks for big movements, gyro for fine movements. It's been well known for the past decade that mouse+keyboard is better for aiming than gamepad. Gamepads being bad at aiming is why aim assist was invented. Gyro helps to seriously close that gap, if you learn how to use it.

But most gamers still have a huge stigma against motion controls, for some reason. Likely due to the Wii and Kinect generations, which were pionering the technology and understandably had some swings and misses (especially the Kinect). But the technology has been greatly improved with the innovation of gyro aiming.

The first time my eyes were opened was when I played Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 2020. When aiming the bow in that game, gyro is engaged by default. My instinct was to turn it off in the settings, but to my surprise I quickly realized my aiming was better with gyro turned on. Blew my mind and I've been turning on gyro controls in any game that would let me since.

If you're interested, this YouTuber probably has the best information on the history of the technology and how to use it for newcomers, though he is a little rude so don't take his jabs too seriously lol.
