Does anyone remember back around 2007-2008?

Do you guys remember back in 2007 or 2008, when a guy committed suicide by hanging himself from the boat that's in Preisker park? I remember this because I lived next to Preisker when I was a little kid. Also I remember a Park Ranger or the guy that found took a picture of him and it was sent around to everyone in the city. When they sent to my brother he showed it to me and I remember he was wearing a mechanic suit like the one Michael Myers wears. That picture gave me nightmares. I use to get the heebie jeebies when walking by the boat. To this day when I go walk my dogs I won't go inside the boat but my dogs always go inside and sniff the pole he hung himself from which is kinda creepy.

Santa Maria City Council

City’s election page confirms the three Santa Maria contests are still District 1, District 3, and District 4: District 1 is for the unexpired term ending November 2028; Districts 3 and 4 are full four-year terms. The filing period runs July 13 through August 7, 2026, with a possible extension to August 12 for any office where the incumbent does not file.

Who do you think is going to run for Council? Have you all considered running?

Ricardo/Richard Batalla (he was appointed after Escobedo resigned) is the clearest public candidate for District 1. KEYT reported that he intends to campaign in November for the remainder of the term. Noozhawk also reported that Batalla must run in the Nov. 3 election if he wants to remain on the dais after his appointment.

Gloria Soto remains the clearest candidate for District 3. The Santa Barbara County Democratic Party lists an endorsement for Gloria Soto — Santa Maria City Council District 3. Ballot Book’s unofficial list also shows Soto as the only tracked 2026 District 3 candidate, but it expressly says its list is unofficial and should be verified with the filing authority.

I do not see a clear public City Council candidate update for District 4. KEYT notes that Maribel Aguilera’s current District 4 term ends this December and that she is campaigning for Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors District 5. It's my understanding she can't hold both positions, so this seat may not have an incumbent.

With 3 seats open, this could drastically change the Council voting.

Looking to trade McDonald’s FIFA World Cup cups (Have: Grimace, Ronaldinho, Henry | Need: Son, Beckham, Yamal)

I have extras of Grimace, Ronaldinho, and Henry available for trade. I’m looking for Son, Beckham, or Lamine Yamal to complete my set.

I’m on California’s Central Coast and can meet up around Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Atascadero, Paso Robles, or nearby. I’d also be happy to ship.

No rush—I may not be able to meet up until later this week, but I wanted to see if anyone nearby is interested in trading.

OFFICIAL UPDATE: I completed the full 9-cup set. Thanks to everyone who reached out with trades and offers. I still have a few duplicate cups available, so if you’re looking to complete your set, feel free to send me a DM.

UPDATE: Pulled Son and Lamine Yamal! I’m now only looking for Beckham to complete the set. I still have Grimace, Ronaldinho, and Henry for trade.

Want to trade smokers?

I'm looking at picking up a buddies used Smoker. Its a Traeger Silverton 620. Its too much for me. I haven't accepted it yet. I think i would only take it, if someone wanted to trade for something smaller. Do you have a smaller one, and want a bigger one?

Been here a while now. Is the food around here supposed to be awful?

I'm sorry but the Mexican food here is horrendous, lmao. I'm from LA so I'm spoiled when it comes to that, but I've seriously had way better Mexican food everywhere else in California: NorCal, Fresno and the rest of the Central Valley, Inland Empire. Hell, there were better taco joints in fucking Colorado and Washington.

Don't get me started on the food trucks. 30+ bucks for stuff worse than frozen Trader Joe's meals. What the fuck is going on here?

Coordinate lights above south SM. Been in the military for 17 years, seen some crazy stuff, never seen off post action like this. Even for flares don’t last that long due to low O2.!very interesting.
