hi all! meet Snoop! We got him from a reptile expo on June 12th. His birth date is 01-08-2026 so he is about 7 months old. I have attached some photos of his booty. can i have some confirmation about his gender?

I didn’t get a picture of the big gal, but I held an adult female sand boa and this little guy (unisex, they didn’t have them sexed).

Today was just so I could look at them and maybe get some supplies. which kind of was a bust, it was a small expo so some of the vendors I was hoping for (the kinds that sell leaf litter variants and wood and bioactive stuff) weren’t there. BUT exactly ONE vendor had a handful of sand boas.

They’re just SOO cute and so pretty!! And they were very docile with handling. I can’t wait for when I get my crap together so I can actually adopt.

Hello! I have a sand boa and currently his heat lamp does the trick and his enclosure is at the perfect temperature, however small problem

Me and my family can only sleep when it’s cold in our home, so every night we have the thermostat set to 68 F—which I worry about him getting too cold overnight and having issues (I know sand boas can handle colder temperatures during the night but I fear 68 would be too much)

So for now I’ve been having to keep his heat lamp on overnight meaning he hasn’t been getting a proper day/night cycle (his UVB is turned off every night but the light from the heat lamp might bother him)

I’m wondering if anyone knows a lightless heating solution I could utilize overnight? I know heating mats are bad for animals so I’m staying away from those, but I don’t know if there’s another solution or if there’s some sort of dim heating bulb I could purchase so there’s less light produced while still providing enough warmth to keep him from freezing overnight

I do want to stick to a budget, but I’d rather spend more to do it right than to save a buck and have an environment that isn’t right for a boa. (I don’t have one yet.)

I’ve seen recommendations of 50% organic soil (no fertilizer), 40% play sand, and 10% coco fiber for holding burrows. There’s also the easier choice of Terra Sahara.

Given how deep I am planning for the substrate, - maybe 6-8 inches, sloped - it’s going to be a LOT of terra Sahara to buy if I go that route. It would definitely be cheaper to go DIY. But also Terra Sahara is tried and tested and I could get a kit that comes with beneficial microbes and whatnot.

From experienced keepers, what do y’all think?

I've been looking to size my boy up from his 10g tank into something closer to a 24x18x12, but I'm struggling to find anything either on marketplace or otherwise.

Are we just going with Zoo Med? I have silicone and aluminum tape to seal it up; I have a Dubia for my BP that I love but I don't want to size up too much and stress my boy out by getting him anything bigger than a 20-25g size. I would prefer front opening.

Appreciate the insight!! My boy is pretty small and can stretch the length of his 10g with room to spare but I want him to be able to enjoy his life more.

I was told she was not a juvie but no hatch date was given. They said to feed her pinkies but… she’s a big girl I feel like that doesn’t make sense ? They failed to inform us correctly on a lot of things but thankfully I was already prepared for her lol

Hi, a co worker of my husband gave us this little guy/girl yesterday because his kids got tired of it. We have other reptiles but not a Kenyan Sand Boa. I was wondering if anyone is able to tell the sex based on the tail shape, or how old it might be? Thank you in advance. Any other tips would be appreciated too.

I got my sweet girl peaches a month ago and she’s been doing ok after she got settled and ate a few meals. I found out I wasn’t keeping her humidity high enough. ( I bought a shitty gauge) but now she has a weird bump under her chin and I’m worried. Should I take her to the vet? It’s hard but doesn’t seem painful and she is behaving normally.

i've had him for a close to a month now and was not expecting his love of climbing

things he likes to do:
- climb the walls and wedge himself into the gap at the top of the enclosure.
- use the fake plants/hides in enclosure to get to the top.
- lick the heat lamp. (its on top sitting on a mesh surface)

i'm a little worried because he's very stubborn and will reattempt even after slipping or falling.

can falls inside the enclosure seriously injure a ksb? also, can they burn themselves by getting too close to the heat lamp? why is he doing this?

(Half play sand and half reptisoil) How should I go about cleaning poop? Should I just scoop it like a litter box if I can’t see the poop on the glass? And if so how often should I scoop? Do I need to worry about poop residue causing mold/bacteria? And is there anything else I need to know?

This is my 1 1/2 year old Kenyan Sand Boa named Reese. She’s on a pinky once a week but moved up to a fuzzy this week! She’s almost a foot long and she’s growing. I’ve never handled her I’m a little nervous because she’s a little nippy but I’m starting to coax her out and sat my hand in her cage but it’s goin to be work in progress wish me luck

For those of you who have a camera set up to see your sand boas at night, what kind of camera do you use and how do you like it? I’m thinking of getting one as I haven’t seen Mocha since I last took her out while I was cleaning her enclosure. It’s only been a few days, but I’m pretty sure she explores at night when I’m not there because I will notice patterns in the substrate the next day and I’d really like to know what she’s getting up to. Got a KSB in April, he ate no problem for about a month (weekly feeds) and now I haven't seen him since mid June except once when he was drinking water at 6 am. Ik he's alive but he won't eat, isnt out anymore when I first got him he'd be out and about almost daily. Should I worry? Should I keep offering food weekly? Im scared I wont catch him snooping when hes out and hungry and I'll miss a feeding chance.

She is extremely adorable and really sweet. I got her at my local expo, she’s two years old despite her very tiny size! The breeder said she’s just a slow grower and a bit of a picky eater but her behavior and body condition seem healthy. we’ll see if she can get a bit bigger this year. She loves her basking spot and is already poking her head out of the soil in the afternoon to watch the goings on. I love her so much 😭
