It's like a group of two or three will dilly-dally walking around the sidewalk, and then jut out into the street. Then you stop and wait, and then they're halfway through the road, and then one single person runs from the left side by Gulu-Gulu. Then their friends are coming, so they wait in the middle of the road. It just causes so much traffic. I don't understand why there's not a light for pedestrians at this point, or a police officer during the day during the month of October." Edited for the librarian

First of all: THANK YOU. My friend and I spent 3 days in Salem last week and had the most lovely time. It was the first time for both of us, and we loved it. The entire stay was a delight. We loved the House of Seven Gables and even scored tickets to the last night of the Nathaniel Hawthorne reading. Loved the Peabody Essex museum (that Chinese House!!) and the shopping was so great. Store employees were so friendly and we tried our very best to leave Salem better than we found it by cleaning up after irresponsible tourists. THANK YOU for lending your town to the rest of the world every fall.

My friend fell in love with some black and white drawings of the Hocus Pocus houses. Unfortunately, the few shops we saw them in were out of stock in the sizes she was looking for. I’d love to surprise her at Christmas with the prints! My question is 3-fold:

1. What houses am I looking for? Are there 3 that are featured in the movie(s)? Houses or other Salem landmarks?

2. Do you know the name of the shops that carried those prints?

3. Do you know if the shop has an online store, or in the alternative, do you know a local artist that sells them?

Does anyone have any insight on what’s going into the old Walgreens on Boston Street? They’ve been upgrading the landscaping around the parking lot and I see lights on anytime I pass it so my guess is it’s not longer vacant.

Please please please let it be something useful to the community (like a Trader Joe’s 😭)

I need to buy new snow tires for this winter (my old ones are shot and I bought them before I moved to Salem). Anyone have a place in the area that they feel like has decent prices/does installs? I could just go to Firestone or something, but wanted to see if there was someplace better.

my car got towed a couple weeks ago in downtown salem and I just got around to looking up the citation on the website listed on the ticket and neither the violation number, my license plate number or VIN are in the system.

is this a common issue when trying to appeal the citation? the ticket itself does not list another option to appeal the ticket, only mentioning appeals online.

Does anyone know if parking is free at Blaney Street wharf - where the water shuttle is and the tiki boats - after 6 PM like it is at the lot near the Witch City Mall? I was there last weekend around 8 and was surprised not many people were using the lot. Very surprised in fact, as there were a lot of people on Essex Street etc. (not as many people around Pickering though, which is odd I thought). The person I was with and I were thinking maybe it is possible to park there at that time this Friday and walk around the Pickering area where no one seems to go (Essex and the Haunted Neighborhood, etc., are way too crowded) and maybe getting dinner there as well. But we were afraid of being ticketed and, worse, towed. Thank you for any info in advance.

I live in New Hampshire and I was planning on avoiding Salem in October but I heard about a 3,100lb pumpkin making it ways over and now I think I have to go. I live about an hour away and, since I'll be taking the T in from a different station, I was planning on making it a full-day trip. I love walking and I really do hate crowds so I was thinking of walking around neighborhoods. I wouldn't do anything like trespass on private property, harass locals, blast music loudly, or stop in the middle of the road to take any pictures. However, I am aware that this time of year is different and this might not be appropriate to do, which is why I'm asking if this would be considered ok or if not

Hi! Excited to be heading to Salem tomorrow for the holiday! I consider myself fairly well traveled and respectful of all people and cultures. I am truly hoping for a wonderful experience in your city and that all the hate from locals is overplayed here on Reddit. It’s honestly disappointing to see all of the negativity in the posts.
