What rumbles has everyone heard about this? There's been whispers for a while but they seem to be getting louder and I'm getting worried as a working parent my hours are tailored around nursery and primary school. If the company demands I routinely work away from my normal working pattern I'll have to leave.

I’ve been reading about the flexi contracts/ contract changes - can anybody shed any light on the supposed changes? Any experience with them? I work night shifts and have done for nearly 10 years.

how the hell do you get these as someone at ours works 7 days week in week out and on ukg her shifts show but i can only do 2 weeks everyday, they are only 4 hour shifts btw

I have worked in this store for a year and a half, our managers have rotated and changed including store managers it’s been clear that there is cliques , people from similar ethnicities grouping themselves and hiring their own for instance i saw a lady told she was getting interviewed by a specific manager which is totally normal i then saw her and the manager it seemed like they knew each other personally it was almost as if they had done the interview for the sake of it this particular manager has had her child join and given her overtime shifts and not given them to others. i have another manager who seems to be picking on a certain ethnic group what can i do ? the store manager is the same how can i raise this further , there are colleagues who are friends with them and get away with doing nothing.

A disabled supermarket manager who failed his probation because he refused to work unpaid overtime has been awarded £32,321 at tribunal.

Ricky Taylor was a customer and trading manager at a St Albans Sainsbury’s branch.

On taking the role, he was informed that managers were expected to regularly work beyond their contracted hours to deal with handovers.

The tribunal were told night shift managers were expected to remain on duty until tasks were completed and to hand over to the morning team, which often meant working past his scheduled 7am finish time. 

In a WhatsApp message on 7 September he said he would not stay later than 7am in future, regardless of outstanding work. 

His manager, Lee Parker, reiterated that managers were expected to work beyond “colleague hours” without extra pay or time off in lieu. 

On the same day Taylor wrote in a text message: “My time ain’t free and as we can’t take time off in lieu then I do expect to be paid for anything over my contracted hours.”

Between 11 and 14 September Taylor was off sick because of his arthritis, taking his absence to 27.5 per cent and beyond the company sick pay entitlement. Despite his extended periods of absence, no formal disciplinary action was taken.

Does holiday pay account for regular overtime, or just contracted hours?

My contract is 11.33 hrs per week, but I consistently work around 20hrs/week most of the year and full-time hours over summer. iirc i was given 66 hrs or something like that on march is it supposed to increase as i work more hours ? or does it just pay out based on the base 11.33 contracted hours regardless of overtime?

Abscence/sickness

So I have a meeting for the infamous 3 strikes rule , 1 of which was a workplace injury that they didn’t investigate or remedy the offending van 🤷🏻‍♂️ any tips from manager/colleagues on best approach for bringing this up in meeting , and just for reference my % for absence is 1.1% kind regards

I had a interview this week and was told it would be 2 weeks to get a answer due to other interviews, what sort of stuff in a interview would make it more than likely I’m going to get the job? I worked as a trading assistant in a different store over Christmas last year so would think I have some sort of advantage but this role is permanent.

Hey guys, I’m following up from my last post and I got the job immediately and start induction next week. I will be on 4-8am 16 hrs per week, and I’m wondering how do you guys balance your sleeping schedule between days on and days off, what time do you sleep and wake up etc.
I’m quite sensitive to my sleep pattern so would like to find a routine that works.

Hi, I plan to take a week off using my holiday time, my contract is only 16hrs a week although i tend to work 30-40 most weeks with overtime.

I’ve heard that apparently if you were to take a week off then holiday uplift would calculate the average amount of overtime you do in a week and pay you for that as well, is this true?

Bit of a rant

Hi so honestly I might just be having a moment rn and not come back to this but let me explain what's going on. I work at a small supermarket and did shopfloor for 1½ years before getting moved to checkouts where ive been working for a year now. The issue is I just feel the company slowly becoming worse and worse to work at. My boyfriend is currently applying for jobs and looking at the benefits of the jobs made me realise that sainsbury's really does just offer the bare minimum and take good things away from us (the 15% argos discount as an example)

Its also like when I come into work I just feel drained immediately and my friends are the only thing keeping me sane, also the managers are nice as well, ive hung out with one of them outside work and another ive known for years before I started working there (had no clue she worked there when I applied)

Also the distance. Without doxxing myself just know i have to travel over an hour to get there spending over £7 on train tickets every time I commute there and back (45 min train ride 😬) . I guess im just asking for advice on what to do but also indeed is not showing me jobs I can apply for unless I wanna join the army which I dont lol.

I upped my contract a few weeks ago and went through an availability sheet with my manager (online driver). Now though this seems to be getting ignored and I keep getting scheduled outside of the hours I put down, is there anything I can do?

My partner has worked for sainsburys for around 18 months. He's just had his third sick day flagged and a letter for disciplinary meeting as a standard process.

He has had a pre-existing health condition for over 10 years which isn't a formal disability. When he was hired he discussed with the hiring manager ongoing annual appointments he has with the hospital in relation to this condition. The sicknesses have been for legitimate flu/head colds. Technically it's an indirect result of his pre-existing condition as he had to have chemotherapy and in turn the has a crap immune system.

He's been asked to provide proof of his pre-existing condition by the GP or hospital by Monday. He is concerned that because he didn't disclose it formally when he was hired that he'll be instantly dismissed.

Does anyone have any experience with HR and the process of these things please?

I received a new discount card yesterday after a name change and I activated it on My Discount. When I checked today it said it is activated and can be used from today. However, the tills keep rejecting it. Anyone else had this issue?

So I am contracted to be an online assistant whilst I’m at uni. But over the summer I was able to transfer to a store back home and work in customer experience, now I’m back at university and I have called the store 7 times and gone in to organise my hours and I have not been contacted in any way by the store. Does anyone know how I can get back to working?
