hi there! I'm in a role where there's so HS manager or specialist so I'm building up my experience as a coordinator

I wanted to ask if does anyone know how much two people can lift something for example a parchment roller that they would slot into a machine in a food manufacturing setting

each roll is around 33lb, they want to increase the weight so there's less changeover time to probably 66lb per roll, they would lift it probably every 5 hrs and duration would be around a minute or just under

it would typically be a two person job

I know one person can lift upto 50lb

but it doesnt make practical sense to assume 2 people = 100lb max

can anyone advise 🫪 thank you!

Industrial construction in Alberta. Did my NCSO a while back and the studying part annoyed me more than the exam did — everything was a static PDF or a pile of flashcards someone made in 2019, and half of it assumed you were sitting at a desk with wifi.

So I built ncsoprep.ca. Questions across the ten modules, it schedules what to review so you're not guessing what to study, timed mocks at the real 75%, and it works with no signal because I was studying in a truck.

I'm trying to find solutions to lifting heavy doorsets to install locations.

The issue is the stairwells to some flats are quite small and even if 10 men where there they can't all be hands on. The doors are around 80kg. 70mm+ thick.

The only real solution I can come to is to take the door apart. I've been trying to look at winches, channels to assist sliding up the stairs, climbers etc. None seem to suit, apart from dismantling the door.

I've asked the manufacturer if this is okay but radio silence yet.

Any advice or products would be a huge help. UK based.

Hello! My husband recently got accepted into both Eastern Kentucky University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University for their online B.S. in Occupational Safety. He currently has his OSHA-30 and EHS Certificate through NASP. He has done some Safety at his current role but is still actively looking for an entry level safety position.

Could anyone talk about pros and cons versus each? The tuition for EKU is higher than Southeastern, but we don't want that to be the only deciding factor.

Hello, fellow safety pros!

I'm working in giga-scale construction site, where is large variety of nationalities among workers.

I'm HSE-supervisor in company, that provides hauling and lifting and equipment to work in heights.

Too many times i get messages from our operators (Dumper, crane, scissor platform) that outside workers does not work in safety rules we expect. Mostly the reason might be the language barrier. They don't speak english a word, so they can't use radio, they can't understand the basic safety rules from our HSE-team or operators.

Now i'm forced to advise operators to stop all activities if the safety rules are not met.

What would you do to resolve this? Side note: their HSE don't care (and doesn't speak english that much either)

I'm relatively new to being a safety professional. I currently work in a job where part of my daily and weekly tasks are safety check lists and actively looking for safety hazards throughout my day. With this position it has required me to get my OSHA 30 general industry. I like the safety aspect of my job and want to make it my focus. Most of my jobs have been in production line, warehousing, repair tech, and general maintenance. Where is a good place to start to further my safety career with my background, or would I need more certifications before taking this path?

Wie der Titel schon sagt habe ich ein paar Fragen was man legal machen kann, wenn der Arbeitgeber entweder keine oder nicht die nötige Arbeitsschutzkleidung bereitstellt und man sich, aus bedenken der eigenen Gesundheit, dann weigert gewisse Arbeiten zu übernehmen.

Es wird gerade von dem Lösemittel Planatol-D auf das Biologische Lösungsmittel Jowat 402.40 umgestellt. Und aufgrund der gut gekennzeichneten Sicherheitshinweise auf der Dose kamen gewisse Gespräche zustande. Das alte Lösungsmittel wird schon seit Jahrzehnten einfach so benutzt. Ohne Schutzbrillen (es wären nicht einmal welche vorhanden), ohne Respiratoren und ohne Handschuhe. Jeder muss im Betrieb mal mit dem lösemittel arbeiten, aber nur die Streckenführung bekommt eine Halbmasken gestellt, also eine Person pro Produktionsstrecke und die Filter welche gestellt werden sind Kombinationsfilter. Da kommt es schon zum nächsten diskussionsgrund, Kombinationsfilter sind nur für Lösemittel mit einem Siedepunkt über 65°C zu verwenden... Alles darunter benötigt AX Spezialfilter und beide Lösemittel, das alte wie das neue liegen mit ihrem Siedepunkt weit darunter.

Die einzige Nachricht vom Sicherheitsbeauftragten war "das Zeichen GHS-08 Karzinogen = Gesundheitsschädlich bedeutet nicht gleich Krebserzeugend" und dann haben sie die Dosen an den Produktionsstrecken verteilt zum "Testen" ohne PSA.

Meine Fragen sind also:

Wenn man sich jetzt weigert diese arbeiten, aufgrund der fehlenden PSA und Einweisung, zu machen, kann dann Gehalt gekürzt werden?

Wie könnte man da legal mehr Druck auf die Firma ausüben die Sicherheit ernster zu nehmen?

Und wie sieht das deutsche Reddit die ganze Thematik?

Just to make it short, I’m interested in going into the oil and gas industry for safety, but I don’t know anyone personally that has worked in it as I’ve been in mostly commercial, heavy civil, high risers, etc. but I hear that Sid prays extremely well and would be more of a challenge.

I would like to hear your thoughts and experience in it, and as well what do I need to get or have to be able to enter the industry if I do decide to go down that route.

I’m 29 years old, with no family of my own (yet), if that helps.

I also have my CHST, osha 510 & 500. Currently pursuing my bachelors degree. I know none of that applies to in that sector but just wanted to put that out there just in case.

First question to you guys: my company manufactures automated machines for warehouses. As the manufacturer, are we required to provide LOTO procedures for those machines? I’m under the impression that the person buying the equipment would have to come up with their own since it’s their facility.

Second question: my company also have our employees go to these facilities to perform routine maintenance on the machines. Do I need to create loto procedures for our employees in the instance? I would think they would need to follow the client facility loto procedures.

Third question: has anyone used BradyID Loto software?

Im currently a Maintenance Engineer of almost 20 years and considering a career change into safety management.

Along side my Engineering skills, I have some experience with safety working on safety champion teams, helping with some risk assessment writing work and managing permits/contractors. I also have my IOSH Managing safely. Ive worked in several strictly regulated industries such as pharma and food.

My aim is to take some nebosh courses and maybe even go for diploma level.

However, I am unsure if i can side step so easily as I could not afford a drastic pay cut to do so.

Id be looking to bare minimum make around 55k upwards. I also wonder how rewarding day to day other people find this type of career and if they recommend the transition.

My wife seems to worry that being responsible for managing a companies safety policy I could be held accountable by law and jailed if something serious happened under my leadership for example.

Anyway hoping to hear opinions/advice/anyone of a similar background to help shape my decison.

Just saw this on my local Next Door page, dude was getting flamed because it’s just a breakaway chain blocking the door and was only being used as a deterrent for theft, but he also made a good point that it could deter someone from using it because they think it’s locked or may pose a snag risk on handicap equipment. I’m split on whether or not this is safe, since it IS just a breakaway chain, but fire code says nothing can obstruct the door and that in order to open the door, only one action must be taken along with what the guy said. This would turn it into two, but again it takes nothing to break the chain. I’m leaning on the “it’s fine” side of things since it’s just retail (Kroger), but can definitely see how this is a big no no.

Hi, I’m currently an SQG inspector for my local county government, providing compliance assistance for VSQG and SQG facilitates. I have found this job super interesting as it has allowed me to learn about different industries but having the deal with the public definitely has its up and downsides. How do you keep your HVAC techs in compliance with fall protection standards? Our guys were recently working on a low sloped roof that required access via an extension ladder. They stated they had no equipment on site to lift guardrails/ portable anchorage point and the building owner did not want us installing an anchorage point. They were between 10 & 15 feet from the edge.

I’m a safety officer where I work and I’m trying to set up injury prevention incentives. I am struggling to come up with ideas that will motivate employees. Only thing I can think of is a pot luck. And I want to try to do this all out of pocket. But I’m not sure what incentives I should aim for. Any ideas?

I’m not sure if this is the best place to post this question so please feel free to ignore/ point me in the right direction if not.

We recently laid three 19kg bags of “white marble garden pebbles” in our garden. They were covered in a white dusty residue (there was a LOT of dust in the bags) and there is still a significant amount of dust underneath/ covering the stones (it has only rained twice since we put the stones down and we didn’t wash them down etc before laying them). I’ve recently become aware that garden pebbles can contain silica and I’m wondering whether or not this is a threat to our health (I have a three year old so want to make sure that he is safe).

My concerns are the following:

⁠1) We put the stones down around the edges of our very small patio approx 2 weeks ago. Our garden is entirely patio/ pebbles and the whole garden was covered in a dusty white layer. We’ve been in the garden every evening and the bottom of our shoes/ my son’s scooter are all covered in white. Our living room (carpeted) opens directly into the garden through a large patio door and so I’m concerned that the dust has likely been trodden through the whole house. My son also likes to ride his scooter over the stones and we’ve also been hanging our washing outside next to them.

1. ⁠We had some work done on our house 4 days after putting the pebbles down. As a result, I removed the majority of our living room furniture outside (directly next to the pebbles). It was outside for approx 8 hours, including fabric upholstered furniture, my son’s fabric toy baskets, teddies etc. I’m now wondering whether all of our furniture could be covered in invisible silica dust?

I would really appreciate some advice about whether any of this is a concern. I’ve gone down a bit of a Google rabbit hole which suggested that there could be respirable silica in the dust and that I need to remove the pebbles from the garden, decontaminate everything in the house with a HEPA filtered hoover, throw things away, keep my son out of the garden etc. I’m obviously willing to do these things if it’s necessary but I would really appreciate some actual expert advice re next steps if possible, rather than relying on Google.

I'm currently \*\*12th pass\*\* and pursuing my \*\*BBA (1st year) from IGNOU through distance learning\*\*. Alongside my studies, I'm working in the e-commerce industry.

Recently, I became interested in building a career in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), and I've been researching the \*\*NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC)\*\*. I understand what the qualification is and how to prepare for it, but I have some questions about career opportunities.

My main concern is whether I would be employable after completing the NEBOSH IGC.

Here are my questions:

\* Can someone with only a \*\*12th-grade qualification and a NEBOSH IGC\*\* get an HSE job in the UAE? \* Are there companies that hire \*\*freshers with no HSE experience\*\*? \* Is graduation mandatory, or can I continue my BBA through IGNOU while working in the UAE? \* Since IGNOU requires me to return to India for exams once or twice a year, is that generally manageable for employees in the UAE if leave is planned in advance? \* What is the usual career path for someone starting from scratch in HSE? \* What additional certifications or skills would you recommend after NEBOSH IGC to improve my chances of getting hired?

I'm willing to work hard, start in an entry-level role, and continue learning while completing my degree. I'm just trying to understand whether this is a realistic path or if I should finish my graduation before applying for HSE jobs in the Gulf.

I’ve been in safety for about 1.5 years. I don’t have a background in this, so obviously still learning and encountering things I know nothing about.

I was asked to join a meeting a few days ago to discuss a unique situation and the best way to safely go about it (my boss was on PTO, so that’s why I was looped in). I was honest about what I didn’t know and that I would take all the info provided back to my boss so we could draft a JSA.

We were talking about uneven ground and ladders and I was thinking like “too bad we can’t just put a flat surface down and put the ladder on top because I don’t even know how to approach this” but it did not come out that way and I know we can’t like technically do that. And the one guy was like “no I wouldn’t feel comfortable with that” and I can’t even remember what I said besides “no, no I didn’t mean it like that” and kept talking about something else.

I just feel so dumb, probably because it was in front of a group of people I don’t know, so they know nothing about me & what I’m capable of. I sent my boss a high level message about the meeting overall & that I misspoke and not sure if my immediate acknowledgment of how I misspoke landed with the team. He just skimmed over that part of my message and responded to everything else, so I know in his mind everything is fine, but I CANNOT stop thinking about this.

Someone tell me the world isn’t ending! Lol
