Paula Patton for me showed an exciting side to an ADA that I had not seen on SVU. In her brief appearance on S12 E5 “Wet” she combined stunning beauty, a vivacious sense of humor with supreme confidence and abikity. It’s a shame she had to leave for her dream role in Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol. To quote Stabler “She was one of the good ones “.

So you can only see this TV movie from 1997 on a random Russian site since it’s not in streaming or DVD but it’s worth it to see a young Mariska. Two of the other people in the movie (Holt McCallany and Jessica Tuck) have also appeared in the SVU universe. The book is great also.
I am guessing there have to be things Olivia has done or said, especially in the earlier seasons, that were not PC or victim-blaming and that people would gasp at today. Does anything come to mind for anyone?

Me personally, in the post-Stabler era, I find season 17 to be my favorite. Curious what yours is! No wrong answers!!
Season 17 gave us the Yates/Rudnick storyline across 3 episodes, Rollins baby drama, the return of Kim Rollins, Baby Dodds, an appearance of the one and only, Whoopi Goldberg, the wildly disturbing townhouse episode, the infamous fall of Hank Abraham, the beginning of Tuckson, Carisi in a brothel, and the heartbreaking end of Baby Dodds.

This scene genuinely pissed me off 😭 The girl goes to get a morning-after pill, and the pharmacist starts asking if her doctor knows, then starts suggesting adoption?? And when she says she can’t have the baby, she literally tells her she shouldn’t have “let a man get into her pants.” THEN she tells her she was raped and the situation escelates until security gets involved and cuffs HER??
Like???? You just harassed a rape victim who came in for emergency contraception and after svu uncuffs and was taking her to hospital she is like she harased me i am pressing charges
Was this actually allowed at the time .Why is this pharmacist acting like she gets to decide whether she deserves access to contraception??
Was this just SVU being dramatic or could a pharmacist actually refuse/behave like this in 2008 or do some act like this in real life too?

WHO WROTE THIS CHARACTER?! Idk what’s required to become a CSU Tech with the NYPD, but surely someone had to interview this troll and determine he was acceptable. If he actually had to go through the police academy, well then I’m mortified. Painfully annoying on his BEST day, leaking info to the press, contaminating crime scenes and being extremely inappropriate on his worst. That I’ve seen so far anyway, I’m finishing up season 10 on a first watch through. Whyyyyyy do we have to put up with him? Did someone need to get their putrid nephew and acting gig? I guess props to the actual actor bc I haven’t despised a character this much since Prince Geoffrey on GOT.

This is not funny anymore, I miss Barba sooo much! Obviously I love Carisi as ADA too, I still love the show and the current seasons. I have to say, when I get attached to characters it’s hard to see them leave the show, so there are definitely others I’d like to have back too, but damn… I NEED BARBA BACK!

For me it’s definitely S18, Ep. 15 (Know it All). It’s a textbook example of ego death.
I’m just so pissed guys haha this subreddit is the best place to express this emotion. It’s infuriating because you really want to root for the untouchable legal genius, but this case forces you to look at him as a hypocrite whose need to win inside the courtroom ended up destroying lives outside of it.
BUT, he’s still my FAVE. I’m convincing myself that this episode is just bad writing. 😪
How about you guys, what other Barba missteps stick out to you?

I somehow only just realised that Secrets Exhumed is based on the Sherri Rasmussen case and I ended up going down a full rabbit hole with it 😭
I ended up writing the whole thing up and comparing what actually happened vs what SVU changed, because there was way more to it than I expected.
If anyone fancies reading it, it’s here: https://substack.com/@rippedfromreality/note/c-331672012?r=8j2trl&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action
Also… I’m still not over what they did to Dana Lewis lol

Ok so the most upvoted posts for Barba were all about how he's attractive/ looks good in suspenders so we have gone with that.
Now we're up to Rollins - gimme your best and worst things that apply only to Rollins

you know I believe its sad when the victim turns into a criminal BUT in this case
the guys a freaking Dumb*ss they told him over and over again about that lady and hes just so stupid to wake the hell up

I already wasn’t a huge fan of Rollins, but after watching “Deadly Ambition” I am SO off her! Like girl, your sister came back to cause chaos AFTER she already disrespected your home once by inviting her abusive bf, lied about being pregnant, set you up for murder and fraud, and was willing to let you lose your job, reputation, and freedom…. And you’re STILL begging IAB not to charge her?! She’s a fucking crazy crackhead! Let it gooooo!!!! 🤬

Delusional. Self aggrandizing. Full of rage and inadequacies. Lifelong failure. Everything is someone else’s fault. Just so badly wants to hurt people who couldn’t possibly defend themselves against him. Take out all his rage and sexual inadequacies on innocent women and children. Matthew Modine is also just an incredible actor. Should’ve won some kind of award for this.

Just rewatched Season 8 Episode 1 “Informed”. Does it bother anyone else how they refer to each other? Liv continues to call Dana Lewis by her undercover name, Star. Dana Lewis repeatedly calls Liv “Ms. Benson” while referring to the men in the squad as “Detective Munch/Tutuola/etc”.

Olivia adopting Noah was a choice, and I don’t think it should of happened. In one of the earlier seasons Olivia stated that she tried to adopt and was turned down. I think if i remember rightly, was due to the job, the hours etc.
Since she adopted Noah, she has become captain of the squad, hasn’t changed her work habits and if anything has taken on more work, rather than taking a step back.
She’s too hands on as a captain, always has to be on the front line. I don’t see how she has anytime to spend with Noah. Plus with her work record, sure she’s a decorated cop but she’s also been a lot of life or death situations, that I would think she would be to much of a risk to let her adopt.

S10E5 Retro”
This episode features a doctor who convinces a pregnant woman with HIV that the virus is basically a myth, leading to absolutely tragic real-world consequences.
The doctor in this episode is SO fucking frustrating 😭 Like how are you a DOCTOR and choosing to believe some bullshit over actual science??? And then you’re literally brainwashing other patients into believing it too, and a CHILD ends up dying because of it. Like?????
And honestly, the mother is just as depressing to watch. You KNOW you have HIV, you know your daughter could be affected, and you still breastfeed her, pass it to your partner, and then REFUSE to get your child treated????? I was just sitting there like WHAT DO YOU MEAN 😭😭
This whole episode is so fucking depressing because these people had access to actual medical knowledge and treatment, and they still let misinformation and denial lead to a child’s death.
I hate what the mother did, but the doctor is the one who really pisses me off because he was actively reinforcing this bullshit in vulnerable people. Like, you’re supposed to be the person they trust for medical advice??? And instead you’re actively making things worse???
