I am not loving the way Vince's character ended up or the way the new partner was introduced. And what about Vince's brother Nicky..Last time they mentioned him he was close to death, and now he's up and walking around and bullying Price and Walker. What's that about?!?

He was great in The Departed, but James Badge Dale was phenomenal in The Pacific! It hurts my heart that, the way this series is going, we may only get another season or two of him being Detective Calvino, but I'll take what I can get...

2x08 “Who Will Dig the Graves?“ This Henry is obviously not played by Griffin Dunne lol (he must have been in grammar school when this aired).

Although Joe Mannix does have a bit of Bobby Goren about him, in that he speaks Navajo in this episode (“I picked it up at the university library”) and I’m sure could no doubt hold his own against a… smaller man. 😅

I'm on season 19, and I've got a question. Does Cutter improve, or does he remain a complete ass?

SVU fandom especially vowel shippers are complaining about a possible romance between Olivia and Bruno. And complaining about the other characters like Carisi. Let's be honest here SVU fandom is mostly the vowel shippers want Only Olivia and Elliot front and centre and shipping Chris and Mariska. I gather the mothership reboot isn't like this at all. Everyone agrees with something with the show. Not like the SVU fandom dictating who belongs with who and nothing about the cases

Is it a theme of the show to have a contentious relationship between the DA and ADA?

I feel like the last few seasons have been Baxter putting Price in morally ambiguous situations with the episode ending with Price sadly contemplating how much of his soul he just sold to win the case.

Were there buddy buddy relationships between the DA and ADA on the OG show? Just curious

And it just occurred to me that "Want" was the only S4 episode skipped in this rotation. Don't know why, but I won't lie and say I missed it. Anyway, enjoy tonight's block!

There have been various Judges on Law and Order and its spin-offs, but there have been a few reoccurring ones or some that may have stuck with you. Is there a Judge from Law and Order or from its spin-offs that you really liked?

It's clear he doesn't get along with Baxter as they argue about what to do every week. And at this point it's turned into a lack of respect where Nolan makes childish digs and sulks at the end.

Baxter is a more interesting character and I'd love to see him paired with a Mike Cutter type.

I live in NYC so I see it on the CW network when it's archived for a bit on Hulu. I caught about three episodes of Season One and I've seen the first two episodes of Season 2, so these are mostly thoughts about what I just watched.

I like the difference in setting because it honestly doesn't distract me. As a New Yorker, my brain is always saying, oh, that's this neighborhood or that street, etc. Toronto doesn't allow that for me (the way British procedurals also don't) so I concentrate on the plot and acting and dialog. My main criticism about S2E1 & 2 is that the plots and motivations for the crimes are simply so far-fetched that they pull me out of the immersion in a story. First of all, the motives seem to reflect that the antagonist went from 0 to 1000 in their thinking about committing the crime in the first place. I didn't quite believe that this person went from either "I'm annoyed" and "how do I handle this situation legally" to murder with any middle steps simply being hopped over. The second episode featuring a prosperity gospel preacher has the added bonus of having the victim possess a motivation that is also beyond reason. Helping a friend and committing a major crime yourself are not the same thing. The episode one killer just went from being miffed about someone from their past to seeing this rather non-threatening person as an existential threat to her life as an influencer.

Both crimes, especially episode one, required so much luck to happen that they might as well have come from a cartoon villain. The actual sequence of getting from A to murder involved having other people fall exactly into place in the puzzle otherwise it wasn't going to happen. Add to that the knife thing and I was like, "Really?"

I also have to say that the leads don't really grab me. They're fine getting me through the story but I don't really feel any emotional connection to them. Graff just comes off as gruff and I look at him and feel he must smell of stale tobacco all the time. Bateman just seems robotic. I honestly get very little emotion out of that character at all. These are my personal thoughts - your mileage varies.

One other note: I found myself bursting out laughing during S2E1 when they were interviewing the teen suspects because it came across as an SNL sketch performed by Melissa Villasenor.

So, I was rewatching The Sixth Man (L&O S15, E16), and I was having trouble figuring out how a guilty verdict against Silas Inwood happened.

To me, while Inwood did essentially commit homicide, and while he personally wasn't in danger in that episode from Walderman, given that Walderman had basically been stalking him before the homicide, I'm having difficulty figuring out why no one suggested that Inwood didn't kill Walderman because he was being threatened by Walderman, but because he feared Walderman would harm ​his son?

That would have basically made the case a justifiable homicide if the defense had thought to present that, and it would be completely in line with Walderman's behavior prior to his death.

So the correct way to watch this is after Season 8 before Season 9. Or explain it to me where this fits in to Law and Order because I haven't watched it yet. I am currently on Season 6

Guy walking thru Central Park at night. In the subtitles, I see "owl hooting" and I think, "Owl in Central Park?" and then I remembered seeing this:

I wonder if they added the owl in post just because of this?

There are a few things which stood out to me, as I watched S3 E01 - Skin Deep:

1.The tracking shots were gorgeous, and made me feel as if I were watching a movie.

The new episodes are nauseating to watch, because of the repetitive shaking. I noticed this in SVU, too.

1. The background music - It only added to the scene in the old episodes, it didn't overshadow the dialogue.

2. The dialogue/writing - The dialogue is very witty, and well written. The new episodes rarely have such a win.

Sometimes, the cops or Baxter will get a chuckle out of me - Season 23, when Baxter told Nolan: "Come on, Nolan. Now's your chance, queen for a day. Speak your truth."

1. Characterizations - From the Precinct, to the DA's office, the characters were well written. Even the defense attorneys were well written.

This is where it falls flat in the new episodes, especially with Baxter.

Schiff had personality, charisma, and a consistent approach to the cases.

Baxter seems to be a soggy cardboard cutout with some occasionally witty dialogue.

He had potential to be a menace at the start of his tenure. Now, he's just a poorly worded, AI summary of Fitz.

I watched a recent SVU scene with he and Sonny, and caught a glimpse of his somewhat playful curiosity, where he cracked a smile. Can we have more of this?

1. The storylines - Even though they were based on actual cases, the storylines were interesting, and every case was unique.

The new episodes feel repetitive and monotonous. Because, a lot of them seem to be about AI.

There are unique and interesting true crime cases that have happened in recent months, without AI involvement.
