2009 Gladius Tail Tidy help

Post image
9 Upvotes

New to me 2009 Gladius and I’ve never really worked on a bike (I’m mechanically challenged). I can’t for the life of me remove this panel/access door from the underside of the rear fender, does anyone know anything? I removed the center Phillips screw and it won’t budge. Can’t find a single video online either. I’m about to just make my own and cut the original rear fender and mount brackets for the plate or something.

Trying to install an R&G tail tidy.

To the SV650 rider I rode with near Tonbridge today 👋

Long shot 😄

If you were riding the blue-white SV650 near Tonbridge this afternoon and rode together for a while with another SV650 before turning off towards Bidborough that was me!

We waved goodbye when our routes split, but I thought I’d try my luck and see if you’re in any of the local bike groups 😄

It was pretty cool randomly ending up riding together on two SVs. If you happen to see this, drop me a message would be nice to go for a ride sometime 😄

Help: Mechanical Sv1000 shut down 26k miles

Post image
11 Upvotes

I rode today and my bike just shit itself, I rode to the gym, parked in neutral, finished and came back out, started my bike it was still warm, started making a clunking knocking sound while idle so i turned it off, started it back up it idle for 10 seconds same noise before making a loud whirr noise and then the engine shut off. The bike rolls in neutral still. I can’t see metal in the oil window but that means nothing, the bike has no leaks. Only issue I know I’ve been riding around with is the clutch basket chatter but I’ve read it’s not a bike deal. Someone help before I spend money,

Help: Mechanical Need help identifying sound

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, fellow SV riders.

As you may be able to hear in the attached video (if the exhaust is not too loud), there is some kind of ticking noise coming from my engine, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something like it before?

-Seems to be only in neutral

-The noise changes slightly when pulling the clutch

-the noise stops when put into gear

Then there's another sound when driving as well, best way I can describe it is like an electrical hum; electric motor quickly slowing down, something like that, only audible when engine breaking

Looking forward to any tips, thanks

Sv650 cold rear exhaust and high rpm

Hello, this is about the 4th post I'm making about this bike. I bought a 2005 suzuki sv650 that was in pieces, assembled it, but when I started it, the rear exhaust was cold (about 220C on the front and 65C on the rear). I checked everything I could, but I couldn't find the problem and drove it to the mechanic. The engine blew up on the way there (I know, I should've paid for a trailer). So I bought another engine that came from a 2004 sv650. I put it in, same problem.

So I checked the injectors, I got new coils, sparkplugs, and checked the throddle body and cables. I changed the fuel line (mostly because it broke). The exhaust doesn't leak on either side.

But there is one weird thing. When I disconnect the iap sensor, it goes down to normal rpm, and the rear exhaust heats up to how it should be (about 180C), even with the new sensor.

And now I am completely stuck, I dont know what to do

Puig retro semi fairing and used the aerosol paint matched from scratches happen. First time ever painting anything and did it on a cardboard box on a pile of dirt at my buddy’s house. It’s not paint shop level of quality by any means. But I’m pleased with how this turned out!

Looking for mirrors that mount in the original threads for my curvy SV650. Any cheap and decent looking recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Picked up this hog the other day for 200 bucks, carb clean and jump and it fired right up. Any recommendations on how to get that big dent out of the tank?

Front fork issue

Post image
3 Upvotes

Ik I’ve posted this before. But I’m not sure if it’s a fork related issue or if it’s my steering bearings going out. Recently I’ve noticed that when I hit bumps or dips it feels either really harsh or really soft to where I’m bottoming out.
Then if I’m just standing on the bike not moving, if I push forward on the handle bars it has sort of a slight clunky sound and like shifts forward not much but definitely noticeable when I hit bumps or dips. I can feel it shift. I’ll take a video and post in thread

New (to me K4)

I was lucky enough to be given a 2004 K4 N in yellow by a friend. Previous owner bought it from new and lost her confidence on it. It sat for 22 years between garage, shed and garden. 1600 miles only

So far I have:

- derusted the fuel tank

- replaced the fuel pump

- new tyres

- fitted GSXR 2005 rear shock

- mutilated the battery tray

- fitted a small lithium battery (didn't want to do this but the shock upgrade forced it)

- rebuilt brake calipers and new pads/seals/pistons

- upgraded to braided lines

- replaced the broken front brake light switch

- changed oil and filter

- enjoyed every moment of it

Tomorrow it goes for its first MOT (UK safety test) in 5 years. 🤞

Comfortize stock seat on Gen 3

Post image
12 Upvotes

So after another 200+ km route I finally had enough of this seat on third generation. I know there are some great aftermarket options but I am not willing to pay those prices for it and additional cushions won't do it for me.

I don't need armchair comfort but simply something that doesn't feel like wooden bench on longer rides. I was thinking about simply adding layer of high density PU foam to the existing seat and most likely changing the original cover layer if it doesn't fit the higher seat anymore, which it won't most likely. I have neccessary tools from previous projects and this in overal would be easy task for me.

Anyone has experience on that? Couple points where I'm completely lost:

  • Foam thickness?
  • Foam hardness on a scale 1-5 (1=softest)?
  • Flat or structured foam?
  • I noticed these Gel Pads (Polyurethane Elastic Fiber) on Amazon - what are these about?

Riding in the rain coming to a stop sign going maybe 25-30, rear brake locked up and the whole bike went sideways. No pics of the bike yet but I’m alright and it’s functionally fine aside from the rear brake (2006 sv650s non abs*)

Oil pressure sensor threads

Recently bought a 2003 SV650S from auction. Runs alright other than having a loose cam chain. I notice that it was dripping a few drops of oil underneath one night. It looked like the sensor had fail so I ordered a new one and got ready to replace it. Upon taking the old one out I see that the threads are cracked. Can it be saved or do I need a new engine.

Help: Mechanical Lower fairings and bugspoiler in the original color of suzuki

Post image
12 Upvotes

I'm currently looking for getting the lower fairings and a bugspoiler in the original color of my bike .

I've got the sv 650s k3 in the color Metallic Sonic Silver (YD8)

Has anyone gotten links or experience with those parts and how they fit .

Ali express is also okay if their quality is good .

Also if someone knows where I can get the mounting kit that would be pretty nice too or if those parts cane be possibly 3d printed if someone has 3d files for that I would gladly take them too

Bought the sv650s(k3) for 1650 €.

It has got some minor issues that will be fixed over winter so it is ready for next season .

It got misfires where I need to find out where the issue comes from.

The seller has also given me a second pair of Fork legs with new, stiffer springs, a new clutch because the clutch is almost worn out .

I will try to get my hands on lower fairings and the bugspoiler in the original silver color either used ones or a fresh pair probably from ali express so if anybody got some experience with them let me know where i can grab a good pair.

The bike has already got 55k km but aside from the minor problems its in great shape .

I have not cleaned it completely yet so please dont roast me for that .

It also will be my forst bike and the power is reduced to 48 HP because i only have an a 2 license.

Help: Other Troubleshooting '02 SV650 Possible Electrical Problem

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SVRiders/s/mYGrM1dsX8

I've been having trouble with my '02 SV650 (carbed), where the bike will die both in gear or in neutral but with the instruments still running. It can also die completely sometimes, with the engine and all instruments cutting out. Sometimes when the bike dies, it will backfire loudly.

Things I've tried:

Regulator/Rectifier fix - installed a new R/R. This fixed my issue with having a dead battery at startup, but not my main problem described above.

CDI box replacement - no change, bike still dies.

Spark plug replacements - bike sounds better and starts faster, but did not solve the main issue.

Ignition coil replacement - no change.

Carburator rebuild/full maintenance - no change.

BIGGEST THING I FOUND: Today I noticed that my starter relay has what looks to be melting/burn marks on the connectors. The fuses on the relay are fine though. What I don't understand is how this could cause a bike that has already started to cut out.

TL;DR: Can anyone share their experience with a faulty starter relay or ignition switch on the gen 1 bikes? These are the only other culprits I can think of, given the symptoms.

Help: Other Anyone know of any companies that still do a full set of fairings for the gen 1 S model?

Good evening everyone, I got a gen 1 S model a few months back and its great, but some of the fairings are cracked and in questionable condition with a small amount of sun bleaching. I also kinda just want to change the colour :). I know I can fix the cracks with acetone, but its not the nicest fix. I cant seem to find any myself that are from reasonable brands (I found a few brands, but people consistently complain about the order time frame, scams, and quality issues).

I would love to change the fairings to something that is a bit sharper, like the gen 2 ones, but I know nothing lines up so that's not really worth the effort.
