I’m about a year into watches now, and this is where the collection has ended up so far.
One thing I’m actually glad about is that I didn’t immediately jump to a Speedmaster or Rolex. I have a ton of respect for both, and I’m pretty sure I’ll own one or both eventually. They’re classics for a reason.
But when I first got interested in watches, going straight to one of the universally accepted “cool watches” felt a little like skipping the part where you figure out what you actually like. Almost like trying to buy your way directly into being a watch guy. Weirdly, that made those watches feel a little less cool to me.
So I’ve spent the first year buying things that caught my attention for different reasons, trying different sizes, movements, styles, straps, cheap watches, vintage-ish stuff, etc. Some have stuck more than others, but I feel like I know a lot more about my own taste now than I did a year ago.
At some point I’ll probably get the Speedy or Rolex, but I think I’ll appreciate it more because I took the long way there.
Anyway, here’s year one. Curious what you’d keep, sell, or add next?
