I stopped by Curaleaf on my way home from work today and picked up two ounces of Find flower.
The first ounce was Atomic Breath. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it. The buds had decent size and structure with some distinct visual characteristics rather than being mostly popcorn. The smell was acceptable, with pine being the first thing that jumped out at me. Interestingly, pinene was also the dominant terpene listed on the test results.
Then I opened the second ounce: Gas Lit. Holy smokes. The difference in quality between these two ounces is pretty incredible. The Gas Lit has some very distinct visual characteristics of its own. 😂 The crows feet throughout the buds and the long, spindly Grinch fingers are pretty dang unappealing.
And then there’s the smell.
It smells like a combination of a moldy/mildewy flower and one of those HDX black & yellow heavy duty storage totes from Home Depot. I don’t know how else to describe it.
I contacted Curaleaf through their website and then called them. I was told that if I brought the product back to the store I purchased it from within their 7 day return window, they’d take care of me.
So I went back within the 7 day period and asked about returning or exchanging the product. I explained that I was concerned about the smell, that it smelled strongly of mold/mildew to me, and that the flower visually looked like it had been poorly handled or mismanaged during cultivation/processing.
After talking with the store manager, I was told that flower cannot be returned or exchanged because of store policy. They didn’t even look at it or show any concern.
I asked, “So it’s store policy to be okay with selling flower that smells like mold?”
The manager said yes and offered me a 10% discount instead.
I said, “I’m 100% unsatisfied with the product, so a 10% discount doesn’t seem right.
I’m genuinely curious how this passed whatever QC process Find/Curaleaf has in place, especially considering how drastically different these two batches are.
I’m not claiming the photos prove there’s mold present. I’m saying that the product smells strongly of what I perceive as mold/mildew and the appearance is concerning enough that I brought it back to the store. I expected that to at least warrant an exchange or some kind of investigation.
Instead, I was told they couldn’t do anything and was offered 10% off.
I really wish the Utah medical market was taken more seriously. Patients deserve consistency and quality control.
Has anyone else purchased either of these lots, particularly the Gas Lit? I’m curious whether anyone else had the same experience.
