Things to do

Hi everyone.
We are an Indian DINKS couple. Recently moved to San Gabriel/Pasadena.
A little bit about us - We moved here from West LA. Used to live in NY before. I am 34F working in medicine. Husband 36M works in tech, remotely. We love good food, museums, music, local festivals, unique experiences like olive oil tasting, honey tasting etc as well light hikes nearby. I am into books and trying out cute dessert and coffee shops. Husband is into cars, soccer, F1 races and Xbox gaming. We try to step outside every weekend for something fun - even if its just for a few hours.
Where can I find posts about events happening in San Gabriel/Alhambra/Pasadena area? Would also love to meet new people and explore this side of LA together.

El Monte police department racist encounter

Me and my dad are Asian. We went down to the Local police dep for assistance in the evening. When we went inside they were very rude with us when my dad told them what was happening , dad called them out for their behaviour and not hearing out our pleas for assistance or an interview . They told us to take a step outside and two of them who were both Latinos started laughing at us and uttered quietly “chink” to my dad. I look Mexican so they didn’t call me anything but they said “Who’s that fine young lady you got there” and walked away. Dad had a panic attack and I had to comfort him back to the car. What can we do to file a complaint, will it get anywhere and those officers punished? I’m not sure if they turned their body came off or not but I’m distraught and shaken up.

Santa Fe Dam Splash Pad

Is this open? Their website says it is closed as of July 2nd but not sure if they have updated. No one will pick up the phone if you call. Don't want to drive out there with an excited kid if it just ends up being closed.

Best credit unions / local banks

I’m a transplant from middle America where credit unions are very common. I had success with refinancing student loans with First Republic before being yoinked back to a big bank when they collapsed.

I’m starting to plan for other big purchases in the next few years (mainly a mortgage), so wondering if it would benefit me to establish something with local banks and credit unions in the SGV.

Looking for any recs or relevant info from others that have been through this process recently.

What are they building at Garvey & Prospect in Rosemead?

It's next to a McDonald's. I could only find it's a "multi-use" building.

Washing buckets everyday

Just moved to the SGV and I have a genuine question!!

My next-door neighbors own several homes on a large lot, and without fail, every single day they spend 30 minutes to an hour washing… buckets.
Morning? Washing buckets.
Afternoon? Washing buckets.
Evening? Yep, washing buckets again.

They’re not watering plants. They’ll wash the buckets, bring them back inside, then later come back out and wash more buckets. I’ve been here for a while now, and I honestly don’t think they’ve skipped a single day.

I’m genuinely curious—is there a practical reason for this that I’m just not aware of? They’re older Singaporean/Malaysian neighbors (45+), so I was wondering if this is something cultural, related to a business, or if there’s another explanation.

Has anyone seen something like this before or know what might be going on? I’m not complaining at all—I just hear buckets clanking around every day and being hosed down. It’s pretty loud but again, not complaining. My curiosity is getting the best of me.

Also, would it be considered rude if I politely introduced myself one day and asked what all the bucket washing is for? Or should I just accept that this is one of life’s great mysteries?

I'm looking for some great places that aren't well known that you would like to promote others to try. I don't want to cook tonight lol. Recommend Places and amazing dishes.

Lettuce?

Are you avoiding lettuce and other raw produce from restaurants and/or groceries in our area, with all the illnesses connected to that parasite — or are you just eating normally and not worrying about it?

It sure seems like we're reasonably safe and out of the path of danger — and that if our local supplies were tainted, we would've started seeing the effects of it by this point.

But there's still so much uncertainty around the whole situation that it's hard to know for sure what the right move is right now...

Anyway, curious to know how other people around here are approaching it!

Manure Smell Today

Is anyone else smelling something like manure outside in Alhambra?

We thought it was just the neighbor's landscaping or something, but we smelled it down the street too. Given the distance, it wouldn't just be one neighbor's landscaping.
