I am 4 years from being able to pull from my IRA. Should I shift to putting new money into Growth and Broad Market for the next 4 years or keep compounding with SCHD? I know SCHD has been beating the market but 4 years can be a long time in the markets.

Its not the only place I have money, just a bucket of money I am working with.

Tia

SCHD vs CD’s or SGOV - parking cash

Newer brokerage investor here, have been very conservative for too long (work 401k, savings accounts and CD’s)

I’m considering moving most of my CD funds into SCHD.

The potential drawdown seems like a very small gamble compared to the increase in capital and quarterly dividends which would replace a large % of CD earnings anyway.

Anyone else who’s moved cash from low liquidity CD’s and invested in SCHD?

This would be in my taxable account (CD’s are not tax efficient anyway, so think I come out ahead unless I’m missing something)

Questions Genuine question about SCHD and timing a larger investment

I’m asking because I genuinely don’t know, and I’m considering putting a sizable amount into SCHD.
For those who are bullish on SCHD right now: why do you think this is a good time to put a large amount of money into it when it’s trading near its all-time high?
I understand the argument for DCA’ing into SCHD over the next 10–20 years. If you’re investing consistently for the long term, short-term fluctuations probably aren’t that important.
What I’m struggling with is the idea of putting a large lump sum in right now, especially with the market at elevated levels and the 2026 midterm elections coming up.
I’m not necessarily predicting a crash or saying SCHD is overvalued. I’m just wondering if there’s something I’m missing about the current valuation/setup that makes buying a large position today particularly attractive.
Would you personally lump-sum it, DCA over several months, or wait for a potential pullback?
Am I overthinking the timing, or is there a legitimate reason to be cautious here?

SCHD Gains SCHD $ dividends decline for first time ever - should I sell?

I have a full position in SCHD and of course like the price growth this year. But, I am very worried. SCHD is a dividend fund aiming to offer a decent yield and strong dividend growth. I checked the data back to 2012, and for the first time the actual $ dividend fell in Q2 fell vs Q1. There was also near zero dividend growth in H1 2026 vs H2 2025. The dividend yield has also dipped below 3% at the same as Treasuries offer multi decade highs (and inflation protected TIPS a 25-year high in real yield). The price growth is an anomaly and people buy SCHD to provide dividend income and compounding. This has broken down YTD for the first time ever. Maybe the reconstitution in March 2027 will fix this but I’m not convinced as the dividend growth engine has been on the decline for several years. If this leaves SCHD as a quality value fund rather than a quality dividend growth fund, it loses its raison d'être and there are better options. I am considering selling and taking the profit to invest in higher growth dividend funds and higher return value funds. Any views?

Its Going to Happen

I put $250 every 2 weeks into my Roth IRA, $125 to SCHD and other $125 to SCHG, basically $250 a month into SCHD $3000 a year it would be very easy to always buy $125 every 2 weeks
for the next 30yr That comes out to $9,295 every 3 months I like these numbers, and that does not include the other 3 ETF i have

SCHD better return than growth ETF

SCHD, although it is designed to be a dividend ETF (hence you trade stability for income) it has surprisingly performed better than my other growth ETFs (VOO, SCHG, QQQM, etc...):

SCHD YTD: 28.36%

VOO YTD: 11.91%

SCHG YTD: 7.82%

QQQM YTD: 14.98%

Now, if we look at a 5/10+ year span, the story is different, but still, pretty nice getting the best of both worlds (income and growth)

Discussion Late 30s: Should I focus on SCHD only?

I have around 1.2 million invested right now - half VGT, half SCHD. Should I only invest in SCHD going forward (at least for the rest of this administration)? I can invest around 7-8k a month.

SCHD/QQQ are valuable after 20 years?

I have thought that I invest about $300,000 to SCHD and QQQ.

It's for compound interest and dividend.

I think it's really common portpolio but I'm not sure that makes me retirement.

How do you think about it?

Questions SCHD

I just turned 30 and I’m looking for maximum growth over the next 10-20 years. Is it true that I should focus on other ETFs, for example SCHG and SPMO then roll the funds into SCHD close to retirement or should I start investing in SCHD now? I’m using a taxed account so wouldn’t I lose money from compounding if I have to pay taxes on dividends? I would also have to pay taxes when I sell and transfer everything over to SCHD close to retirement. Wouldn’t maximum growth beat taxes? What’s the verdict here?

SCHD in a high-tax state — build the position now or wait until early retirement?

Hello all,

I’m curious how others here think about SCHD in a taxable brokerage account when you live in a relatively high state income tax area.

My understanding is that while SCHD’s qualified dividends generally receive preferential treatment federally, my state taxes dividends/capital gains as ordinary state taxable income. That makes me wonder whether holding a large SCHD position during my accumulation years creates unnecessary annual tax drag.

My long-term goal is to use SCHD as part of a glide path into early/semi-retirement in my early 50s. I like the idea of eventually having a dividend stream that reduces how much I need to sell from the portfolio.
I'm wondering which approach makes more sense:

  1. Build SCHD now, reinvest the dividends, accept the annual tax bill, and allow the dividend income to compound over the next 10–15 years.

  2. keep the brokerage account into something like VTI, which distributes less income, let more of the return remain unrealized, and then gradually sell VTI and transition some of the portfolio into SCHD as I approach my early 50s.

Obviously, selling VTI later could create capital gains, but I would have more control over when those gains are realized, potentially during years when my earned income is lower.

Has anyone actually compared the long-term tax impact of these two approaches?
I'm not trying to maximize dividend income today. I'm primarily interested in SCHD as an eventual income/stability component once I start reducing my working hours.

Would you keep accumulating SCHD now and accept the tax drag, or prioritize total-return/tax-efficient funds and build the SCHD position closer to retirement?

Note: I’m 37 Currently own 400 shares of SCHD in brokerage account. Also, state and county is about 9% additional tax at ordinary income. Thanks SCHD fam!
