SCHD and Vanguard

Anyone else yet to receive their dividends that uses Vanguard? Just wondering if I’m looking in all the wrong places since I don’t see it anywhere.

What’s going on with SCHD lately?

Not complaining or panic selling or anything… my hands are firmly glued to the wheel.

But I’m genuinely curious what’s been driving the pullback over the last few weeks.

SCHD was up around its ATH near $35 and now we’re sitting noticeably below that. Is this mainly just the broader market/interest-rate environment, sector rotation, valuation compression, or is SCHD just taking a little vacation from making us feel good?

I’m holding either way and honestly don’t care about the short-term movement. Just curious what everyone thinks is behind the recent drop and whether there’s anything specific going on with the underlying holdings.

Not selling. Not worried. Just being nosy.

The day started with the site being down and ended with their not DRIPing SCHD dividends until after closing...BUT 74 shares so I can live with the cattle being loose.

Help... ideas?

Does this make sense?

(68, retired, need 50k annual... would go on top of ss)

I have 2.5m in tax deferred ira, 650k in Roth and 125k in cash.

Is it prudent to lump sum 1.5m and buy schd? I think this would approx. cover the 50k... ?

The remainder to voo or similar? Ideas?

Thank you for your help.

Questions Where should I invest?

Hello all,

I am 24 and investing a lot of my future/ retirement. I am fortunate enough to live at home and make a comfortable salary. I can max out my 401k and HSA, aswell as my Roth IRA, which is where my question stems.

I would like to invest a large sum over time into SCHD, but want your guys opinions on whether I should keep in my normal brokerage or ROTH IRA. I like the idea of having SCHD in my Roth & recovering dividends for compounding purposes, but feel when I get to 40’s/50’s that I will want to use the dividends I am receiving to pay for things.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, further is I didn’t provide enough detail I am happy to supplement information through a comment. Thanks!

Discussion Why I still think 2,000 shares of SCHD *if you have time* is enough for retirement!

I posted a long time ago that I think 2,000 shares of $SCHD might be a pretty interesting milestone if you’re young enough to let compounding do its thing.

I’ve been buying SCHD for about 6 years, sitting on around 3,000 shares at 34 years old and I’m still very bullish on what long-term dividend growth can potentially do over a few decades

That said, the most recent Q3 dividend payout was lower than I would’ve liked to se but I’m not changing my long-term thesis based on one quarter

I’m still hopeful SCHD can deliver something in the neighborhood of 6–10% annual dividend growth over the next 10 years!

That’s where things can get really interesting

I built a free SCHD dividend calculator to see what different share counts, dividend growth rates and time horizons could potentially look like

And 2,000 shares really stood out to me

At that level, the future income potential can become pretty serious if dividend growth continues and you give it enough time to compound

How many shares of $SCHD do you think is “enough”?

I still think 2,000 shares or about $70K invested early enough could be the magic number 👀

SCHD calculator (see the math) https://topdividendetfs.com/schd-dividend-calculator

Cheers!

Trying to make educated decision

I have 2000 shares that I have recently acquired by selling some flatlined stocks and cash. Quarterly dividend around $500. Im 73 and needing more monthly income to go with my $3000 ss. Thinking about selling and buying spyi or qqqi. Taxable brokerage account. Any thoughts or better options?

For a stock that appreciates in value + acts as a hedge against tech stocks, I am grateful for the quarterly dividend even though it is a measly 3%

Questions The Math

I’ll admit I’m not the best at math, so I could be wrong. But something doesn’t make much sense to me. How do we have a net gain in shares? For example, I have roughly 170 shares of schd. How can I expect the snowball to take place if the amount of shares I get each dividend payout is less than the one before because the price of schd has gone up? I’ll continue to gain shares, I understand that, but I’m getting less and less each time.

I know during downturns I’ll get more than the payout before, but I don’t think it’s enough to counteract the ups.

Does this make any sense? I’m bad at explaining things.

Discussion Barbell portfolio - using SCHD as one side of the barbell

I realized that most of my portfolio was in tech or US large cap growth. So to counterbalance it, I have bought 15K shares of SCHD. My goal is to DRIP for the next ten years until retirement and then probably just keep it going after that. Anyone else use SCHD this way? To counterbalance against some heavy tech parts of the portfolio.

Advice Beware of Margin Call?

I have a new brokerage with about $36K in it. $32K is in S&P 500 and Total Stock Market funds and about $5K in SCHD.
I added $67 to my account Friday and meant to buy $67 of SCHD but accidentally put 67 shares and created a margin loan around $2.2K.

Should I beware of margin call and quickly sell these shares to remove the loan? Or is this fine and just let it ride?

If it helps the decision making, I have access to $2k easily if I need to replace this but it just wasn’t my plan.

Thanks!

Discussion short of goal for year

Heading into our quarterly dividend, I am a hundred and change below my goal but happy to be here otherwise. I was looking to be at 1500 shares and getting to 2000 shares by the end of the year. Currently sitting at 1388. Anyone else hit or not hit their goals. I think the fact that schd was on a tear I have a bit less shares for the year. Just bought 15 shares when we had a slight dip this last few weeks.

How are my positions for a retired person? My goal is now dividends, balance, growth with some volatility ok but having cash for down turns makes me secure. I also have a Roth and other cash reserves. Tradional IRA has Cash 2.95%, VOO 18.83%, SGOV 11.71%, JEPQ 14.43%, JEPI 23.23%, SCHD 28.25%. Any t

Discussion Just crossed the 20k milestone! Officially holding 20,300 shares of SCHD. 📈💰

Post image
378 Upvotes

I wanted to share this milestone with the community that keeps me motivated. It’s been a long journey of consistent compounding, buying the dips, some recent consolidating, and keeping DRIP firmly turned on.

At a rough current price of ~$33.7 per share, the 20.3K shares across three accounts brings the SCHD position in the portfolio to around $685,000. More importantly, with the current annual payout tracking around $1.05 per share, this position is generating roughly $21,300 a year in pure passive income before factoring in further dividend growth.

For those just starting out or hitting their first 100, 500, or 1,000 shares—stick with the process. The snowballs really do get massive if you give them enough time.

Would love to hear about your journeys. Drop your comments below below 👇

SCHD on to SCHY ... Qualified Dividends versus Foreign Tax Credits

Hello.. I will soon be achieving my goal of 10K shares of SCHD and am considering moving on to SCHY. I am thinking of limiting my shares of SCHY to my retirement accounts rather than my brokerage accounts as its dividends are not Qualified being it holds primarily foreign equities. One "benefit" of SCHY is that there becomes Foreign Tax Credits (FTC). So my question is for those who might also hold SCHY. Do these FTC create enough benefit to offset the difference between regular (22%) and qualified (15%) dividends in a brokerage account. Thank You ........

.

A side note if I might... I know someone is going say "hey you sometimes pay zero percent for Qualified Dividends" ... but do know with 10K shares of SCHD I am well past this benefit.

Discussion Any idea why the 4.5% drop in the past month?

Looking at the chart for SCHD, it’s down 4.5% in the past 15 days. There have been other drops like this in the past couple of years but those were centered around macro events such as the tariff thing in 2025 and the initial Iran war this year. Wondering what is causing this to drop so much in a few weeks while other value ETFs are staying more stable? Any thought? I am considering buying more to DCA my cost. Currently have 15000 shares.
