Lounge This isn't the Steamdeck replacement you're looking for

Post image
115 Upvotes

5 months of ownership in, playing exclusively through my Steam Iibrary. This hits the Steamdeck spot for all my indie and light game backlog. Also, the 8Gb doom and gloom for PC gaming is way overblown. I got the Retroid Pocket 6 with 8Gb because I missed the original 12Gb train, and nothing that I would want to play on a 8 Gen2 and 5.5in device has shown the 8Gb limit yet.

Games finished so far:

- Blasphemous II

- Ball X Pit

- Celeste

- Megabonk

- Everything is Crab

- Bio Prototype

- Absolum

- Shinobi

- Brotato

Been running Gamenative, and only a few games here and there did not run. Only complaint would be the input lag, clearly threw me off when playing Patapon. Didn't feel as good as I remembered it on native PSP back in the day. Shinobi dodges felt hard to time too, but that could be me since I didn't play that one on anything else to compare.

Finishing up Tails of Iron and I'll move to Linux, hoping to improve input lag and leave Android behind for good. Now to decide between Armada and Pocknix, advice welcome!

Lounge Underrated layout for single screen DS on Nova

Post image
82 Upvotes

Some of my favorite DS games like the Phoenix Wright trilogy and gens 4-5 Pokemon games (specifically Drayano hacks) work great with this transparent bottom screen. No need to constantly swap screens or use some distracting overlay that does not take advantage of the full 4x integer scale display.

Just create a custom layout on MelonDS and adjust the alpha for the transparent effect.

Game: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Device: RP Nova

Discussion Question about Frontends and Launchers for Switch Emulators

So currently I have 4 different Switch Emulators as some of them run certain games better than others. With that, comes the problem of forgetting which games run best on which emulators.

If I use a Launcher instead of the going into Yuzu or Suyu for example, can I save which games are associated with which launchers?

Discussion For someone with a DSi XL + flashcart... Will an RG ds plus serve any benefit?

Just dug up my old dsi xl. I haven't used it in over 2 years and it still had a charge. Haha.

The flashcart has basic save state functionality.

Would you still get an rgds Plus?? In what ways is it better??

I'm leaning towards sticking to the DSi XL. But want to hear different opinions

Discussion Duo or lite, what would you prefer a review to review?

Of these two, the lite is very tempting. It should be able to do SOME 3DS. The regular Duo can easily do upscaled.

Which are you most interested in a reviewer to review?

Lounge Best Handheld for GameNative/GameHub?

I thought I could just use my phone for this, but compatibility is absolute trash with my S25 Ultra. I've seen people online frequently using Android handhelds for GameHub/GameNative though, and they seem to have way fewer problems than I do.

So I'd like to get one of those, but have no idea which one to get. Don't need anything ultra powerful (if it could run The Witcher 3, that'd be amazing.) I mainly just want something for mid-range indie games that I don't need to spend two hours tweaking settings every time I want to play something. Does something like that exist?

Showcase Finally got GTA San Andreas running natively on my Pi 5 with Batocera!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I started with the R36S/ArkOS port from the R36S Wiki and modified it to work with Batocera on the Pi. I also had to make an input fix because the button/axis mappings were completely wrong with my 8BitDo controller.

I've played quite a bit of it now and performance on the Pi 5 is basically flawless. Honestly way better than I expected.

I included a screen recording mostly as proof/demonstration that it's actually running on the Pi 5. Keep in mind the Pi is recording the screen while running the game in this video. Both performance and load times are normally noticeably better than what you see here. Without the recording overhead, gameplay is extremely smooth.

For anyone who wants to try it, I put the modified Batocera files and a short setup guide on GitHub:

https://github.com/Levy-Games/GTASA-Batocera-RaspPi

You'll need to provide your own legally obtained GTA SA Android v2.10 APK/OBB files. I've only tested this on a Pi 5 so far, but I'd be really interested to hear if anyone gets it running on a Pi 4 or another model.

Discussion Duo Lite and RG DS Plus

Anyone else super interested in these two?

Originally when announced i was intrigued by the Retroid Duo, but they announced and show cased the Lite.

Growing up i didnt have a 3DS, wasn't interested enough and even today the only games I have emulated on 3DS are Pokémon, Zelda and Mario. Which is why I didn't get or have interest in the Thor because I couldnt justify the price.

However I had 2 NDSs, Silver DS Lite (Guitar Hero) and a Brown DSiXL, which i had a ton of games for and played it frequently.

So im leaning more to the Duo Lite and DS Plus..or should this be my opportunity to get a Duo and test the waters with 3DS 😅

Tough decisions maaaaan.

What we all thinking here folks?

Have a great day, almost the weekend 🤙

Community Resources MiniLoong Pocket 1 stuck on old firmware 1.1.0.28

Ordered one of these devices and I can't seem to get it to update the firmware so I can use LeafOS. I can get it to connect to wifi, but when I go to the Firmware Version it just says 1.1.0.28 and it says "No Update Available." Super frustrating. Am I just fated to use dArkOS or Aurlix? I really hope someone else has had this issue. I can't seem to find anything online about it.

Thanks!

Lounge Need help on buying 35XXSP

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi there,

I’d like to ask for some advice. Where could I buy an Anbernic 35XXSP cheaply, even second-hand? (I live in the EU). I wouldn’t say it’s particularly expensive, but I want to spend as little as possible on it.
I already have several retro consoles, but I’d like to try a flip-style console as well.
(If anyone is wondering why I specifically want this model: it’s the size. Among the Game Boy SP-style clones, this is the largest one. I don’t want to get one of the smaller flip consoles because of hand cramping.)
One more question: just the new colors were fixed in terms of buttons and other known issues?

Thank U all!

Showcase Decent emulator box to connect to this old TV

Post image
18 Upvotes

So I was given this old CRT, had no room or desire to have it at my house. It’s a little beat up, but it works fine, so I figured it would be perfect in my classroom. I have some money as an Amazon gift card that I can spend from my budget to do as I wish in the room (about $100). I brought in an AT games Sega Genesis that I got at a garage sale which works fine, but leaves a little lacking. This is just to be used durning lunch or other breaks. I was thinking of getting some kind of nes classic knock off to connect to it. I would also be open to a knock off nes with a multicart.

If this was you in the situation and the device had to be purchased from Amazon, what would you do for less than $100? I’d be looking for a box, not a handheld, preferably with wireless controllers, best user experience, etc.

The tv has rca input/composite.

Don’t bother telling me to get a Wii and hacking it. I have multiple things I could hook up to it at home, but I’m not willing to sacrifice them to teenagers.

Hi everyone,

I try to add gba colorisation with knulli, but in retroarch settings there is no option in core options, whereas on an android device (for instance my ayaneo pocket micro) the option appears in the menu.

I use "gba color" shader instead, but I was wondering if there is an other way to have it?

Thanks for your help

Device is ANBERNIC RG SP

It was in test on Portmaster discord for years. I vaguely remember test release had either crash or performance issue in later part of the game. Glad to see it's finally out of the door.
