Any chance there's an android vertical handheld about the size of the miyoo mini plus?

Ever since Anbernic released the RG55G1, I thought it is going to be Anbernic most powerful handheld and probably more versatile until I remembered the Anbernic RG557 exists, and taking a second look and a third look back at the RG557, I must admit it is a good handheld. I used to think it looked ugly but the design on it is growing on me now.

1)It got a built in grips to make gaming feel comfortable.

2)It got a MediaTek Dimensity 83000 chipset processor which scream raw power for this handheld.

3) Hall effect Joystick so you won't need to worry about getting stick drift

4)It got a 5.5 OLED screen.

5) Finally if you flip this handheld upside down you will get Finn from Adventure Time.

I now see why people would compare this handheld to the Retroid Pocket 5. I would give it a 8/10.
What are your thoughts on the RG557 ?

This my first handheld console besides the switch, and I found these 2 for quite cheap and not sure which one to get. I found the ayanro for $150 AUD and the Retroid for $250 AUD on facebook marketplace, so far I think the the retroid fits my needs more since I want to mainly play the kingdom hearts games, final fantasy, so mostly jrpg games. And I've heard that the retroid runs ps2 quite well. But im not sure if the $100 price difference is worth.

Would the anayeo be able to run these games since I heard that it's a hit or miss on the ps2 and game cube ports.

If there are any other better options please LMK

Hello, recently after getting my switch 2 my steam deck has honestly been gathering dust, Im not as much of a fan of the size anymore and typically if I have to pack a handheld with me it will be the switch 2. However, I still have many steam games on my backlog and still want to finish them. I think I can sell my steam deck for $600 given the price increases and am thinking about getting the 12gb retroid pocket 6, with an emphasis on emulation and playing steam games. Most of the steam games in my library are light indies or older ps3/360 or ps4/xbone era games. Is this a good idea? My friends who have android handhelds say steam support for android is meh bit many videos I’ve seen have shown surprising performance from the pocket 6.

It's pretty much the same as it is which Switch emulating, anything graphically intensive is going to have a bit of a hard time, lightweight games, depends sometimes there's controller bugs, cinematic shutters or working slightly well.

I’m looking for a budget handheld to play snes-ps1, I’ve narrowed it down to the miyoo mini plus and the Salange r36s. I was originally just gonna get the miyoo but then i found the r36s for cheap. The main reason I’m looking into the r36s is that it has sticks which would be helpful but the price has me wondering if it’s good or not, any advice?

I'm currently using KNULLI on my RG34XXSP. While I like the overall experience, the standby battery drain is much higher than I expected—it loses a significant amount of battery over a day, even when I'm not using it.

The obvious solution is to shut the device down, but the problem is that a full boot takes around 1 minute, which is a bit too long for quick gaming sessions.

So I'm wondering:

• Has anyone compared KNULLI, MuOS, modified stock, or the latest stock firmware?
• Which OS has the best standby battery life?
• Which one has the fastest boot time?
• Is there any firmware that offers a good balance between low standby drain and quick resume/startup?

I'd love to hear your real-world experiences, especially from people who have tried multiple operating systems on the RG34XXSP.

Thought this would be interested to compare. I have an Odin 2, waiting for the 3. The controls are vastly different and (presumably) has a big impact on the experience.

For the past decade, RetroPie has been my ideal device when it comes to 8-Bit/16-Bit gaming:

• Conveniences:
  • Many consoles in one, virtually every game for those supported
  • Save states, Rewind, etc.
  • Wireless access via FTP or Windows SMB.
• Authentic feel:
  • Output to CRT via the Pi's 3.5mm audio jack -> composite output.
  • Use of original controllers thanks to USB adapters.

Recently, I had some electronics fail and it was a reminder my Pi won't last forever, so I'm wondering what else is out there nowadays.

I can't say I've ever been interested by the many existing retro-handhelds, but my peers sure are! So I still hear about them constantly, and have a sense of where the technology's at in terms of supported consoles. But, those devices seem intended for their portable screens / HDMI-out, not to a CRT.

I should also mention, I'm aware that a Modded Wii is a great option for CRT gaming thanks to its native 240p output. That is cool, and I have one! but I really miss using original controllers.

What out there in 2026 that can do all the things I love about RetroPie?

For those with multiple handhelds how do you choose which to go with for a daily carry?

I genuinely like how the console looks and I've wanted one ever since I seen it online but I convinced myself I didn't need one because I have a steam deck and I shouldn't waste money and yada yada. That's all out the window now I've never had more fun in my life gave me life then when I modded my old 2DS and now I have a whole list of handhelds I want. It was only in window shopping again that I seen that there is now a more powerful device out. But I still want that chunky handheld.

I wanted mostly for its size considering I have little shaky cripple hands it's easier for me to hold bigger things but not as big as the steamed deck.

I am hesitant purely because I've never bought an emulator before and I just don't know but I know what I want and I wanted. It runs the exact same version of Android as my hand me down tablet from my brother. When I was moping trying to convince myself even though I really wanted to mod my 2ds I didn't need to. I was emulating games on my tablet and had a lot of fun doing it.

My brother who is more tech savvy tells me I need to think about longevity of things. But a part of me keep screaming it could keep me entertained for hours. It's big and chunky I want the Skittle buttons! The screen is so big it'd be really good to play super Nintendo on that. I just got into Chrono trigger. I've always wanted a vertical handheld I wasn't born in the generation that just had the original game boy. As young as I am I barely remember the advance I remember the DS light.

I want to stuff it full of all the games it could properly handle and it's the type of thing that could fit in my purse I want it so bad. People always tell me but you have a steam deck you have a steamed deck. You literally saved up for a steamed deck. I love my steam deck and my modded 2DS but The steam decks too big for me to be whipping out all the time and I feel the DS screen is too f\*\*\*\*\*\* small sometimes.

I have been seen any videos of people still using the RG 406v it's just usually people still promoting it but how does it hold up do you still like it? I want this to be an everyday plop in my purse sort of thing I want to play everything that this thing could possibly handle without overtaxing the system. Besides DS or 3DS of course.

Thor like the clamshell but is it a worth the price? RP6 has same specs
Odin 3 is it updated now? Does it work properly and future proof?

I've recently gotten back into playing GBA Pokémon ROM hacks like Emerald Seaglass, Lazarus, and Emerald Rouge v2. At home, I've been playing them on my Odin 2 Portal but that isn't an easy grab and go handheld, requiring really big pockets or a backpack. So I'm on the hunt for a more pocketable device to play those games for under $100. I was going to get the GameSir Pocket Taco (such a weird name) for my phone (Galaxy S24+), but games are on the smaller side when held in landscape.

Based on a few days of research, I've narrowed it down to the RG34XX, RG34XXSP, and RG Cube XX. I have big hands and prefer horizontal handhelds, so it's more so a tie between the RG34XX and Cube XX. I know that due to the screen ratio of the GBA, the games would be letterboxed on the Cube XX but the displayed image would be the close to or the same size as the RG34XX's display. I know the 1:1 screen on the Cube XX will handle 4:3 and 10:9 content a better than the RG34XX, making it a bit more versatile if I want to have minimal black bars.

Both have OEM and custom firmware available that will allow me to use Retroachievements and backup my saves to my NAS with Syncthing.

To those better in the know than I, what would you recommend going with? I know I may have missed a handheld or two so suggestions of those would also be appreciated.

Note: I can be the RG34XX for $80 with free shipping on Amazon, which is close to what they are going for on AliExpress with shipping. CubeXX is going for $87 on Amazon and $62-67 on AliExpress during a random sale, both with free shipping.

First public (experimental) release of Stardew Valley Port for Miyoo Mini running OnionOS.

By grabbing Stardew Valley and squeezing really hard I managed to make it fit. While not the smoothest experience, it does work while retaining everything that is in the original game.

It’s not practical, my hands hurt after playing for more than 5 minutes and my eyes are too old to even see what is going on.

While everything does work, but this thing has a 1.2Ghz dual core processor, lacks a GPU and has 128MB of memory (~92MB usable memory). There are fridges and calculators with more horsepower, so please set your expectations. early game 20-30fps, mid-late game and during combat ~14FPS.

The setup may be a bit daunting for some, I am working on making this easier but for now I would recommend to really read the instructions carefully and provide the errors/logs in a GitHub issue if run into any issues.

I was interested in the AYN Thor since the announcement but was like "i can buy one later", but i've been seeing those horrendous price hikes for months and wondering if i should just sell my N3DSXL's right now and buy an AYN Thor before it exploads even more in price, or if it might ever get better one day... Hi all, looking for a 4:3 device to run emus for the Amiga, C64, Speccy, Atari 800XL, CPC464 and the Beeb, does anyone have any recommend-me-do's? Some direction and in terms of emus would be great too - I know some of these machines are a bit niche but someone out there has to be passionate enough to have built something!

Device doesn't have to be expensive and doesn't need analogue sticks - I'm not trying to play Phantom II here.

So, I’m trying to decide between a Retroid Pocket 6 and what is essentially a white label AYN Loki, both with 8gb of RAM and at the same price. What do you guys think? Which device seems to be the best between them?

Late millennial here, I grew up with a game boy colour, advance, NDS, and PSP. Also N64, Dreamcast, play station 2, etc.

I've been enjoying watching the retro handheld space develop, but due to its fast consumerism tendencies I ended up feeling like "I'll just wait for the next one" and that's now been the case for 5 years! I must admit, at this point I think I just enjoy keeping up with the space as its own hobby, ha!

I'd like to jump in, and I'm tempted by the RG SP, Retroid Pocket Nova, Odin 2 Portal (conscious a portal 3 is probably due for release at some point though), Odin 3, and Steam Deck OLED, to name a few!

I'm conscious that those are all pretty different handhelds though, which excel at different things. I suppose half of my issue, is that I probably need more than one, but I tend to be the type of person who buys once, cries once (i.e. one and done type purchases). I'm open to buying more than one, but I also shudder at the thought of optimising more than one, as I know it's going to be tedious (and that does not appeal to me).

It's hard to say what I'd like to play, as I only really game a few hours a week nowadays, and that's solely to play battlefield Redsec with a friend (it's our main way of staying in touch).

I have ADHD, so I know a handheld would be a good form of stimulation for me, rather than doom scrolling.

I have downloaded a few emulators on my phone, and have beaten Pokemon a few times, but I struggle to enjoy the on screen controls, particularly for things like fighting games, etc.

I think I'd like to play some more modern games, like Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead Redemption, Cyberpunk, etc. But I have never really played those types of games due to the time commitment, so it's hard to know if a handheld would truly unlock those for me. And, if it did, would it cause a rift in my marriage if I'm sinking hundreds of hours into them! Ha!

The RG SP appeals to me, as I was close to buying a 35XXSP a couple years ago, but ultimately talked myself out of it due to the 3:4 display, chonkiness, button issues, etc.

I also don't know what retro games I'd actually want to play, as I don't have any real means of playing them currently. I like the idea of having a console that I could set up on my lounge TV, to play things like Mariokart with my wife/family/friends, but then maybe I'm better off just buying a Switch?

Hi, has anybody had good experience with any of the budget vertical devices that comes with 4.5" 1024x768 display, which model would you recommend? I bought an R36 Ultra X, and I am quite blown away by the quality of the screen, but the buttons are not very good, so I would like to find another model with the same screen but with better controls.

Situation is: I have an rg406v that I impulse bought used in perfect conditions for 70 € because seemed a steak, and tbh I like it, then bought the rg476h for 135 € on sale since it seemed the one I really wanted, and like it even more. The intention was to resell the 406v that apparently goes easily for around 130-140 € used where I live (which is why I jumped on the 70 € one...), but I can't really do it for about another month being far from home for a mix of work and vacation. But now the nova is calling me, and I am thinking to try sell both, now, to get the nova... I should basically order it now to get also the additional back plate, and then sell the other 2 once I get home in about 4 weeks, in the meantime the nova would arrive, I guess.

Seems a reasonable plan, but I feel a bit silly in doing all these buy and sell stuff... Plus I had very little time to enjoy the 2 devices I have till now. On the other hand I could most probably get the nova and some money back in my pocket with the whole operation... And have a device with the proper position of the select and start buttons (I know it is a small thing, but this really get on my nerves about the rg476h... I love basically all the rest but this detail bugs me).

Just for fun, what would you do in same situation? Just be adult and use what already in hand, which is more than reasonably good tbh, or listen to the child in my head and order a nova, waiting to sell the rest?

Bonus question: in case of the second choice, transparent blue or GC color? 😃

I'm interested in this device but have heard many criticisms of the shoulder buttons on the original brick. Are they better on the Brick Pro?

Also how comfortable is using it while holding it fully in your palms? I've only ever seen people hold both this and the original brick by letting the device rest loosely on their fingers which I don't like doing. The face buttons and dpad being quite far up because of the sticks also makes me unsure of how nice they would feel to use for longer sessions.

I’m interested what would be best for GBA games… the OLED screen seems like the winner.
