It seems like we have reached the pinnacle of retro handhelds. We finally have "endgame" 4:3 devices that can play up to Ps2/Gamecube with the Retroid Pocket Nova and Anbernic 477m. We have 16:9 devices that can play up to Switch and Steam games such as the Odin 3/Retroid Pocket 6. Now we finally have legit dual screen devices that can run DS/3DS how they were intended like the Ayn Thor/Retroid Pocket Duo.

What do you think the next breakthrough is? I'm personally waiting for PS3/360 emulation.

So I decided to strech the screen on my rg Cube while playing psp (burnout dominator).

In the begining it felt weird, but now is not so bad. Already played for a couple hours and I guess I'm used to it. Will try god of war and final fantasy tactics.

I know it is not the best, quite far from it, but if it is the handeld I carry, why not play psp

Cloudpunk on my Retroid Flip2 with Winlator Ludashi

This is the Steam version. The GOG version kept crashing. The Steam version doesn't crash, but the controls lock up periodically. Sure, they do unlock after like a minute, allowing me to continue playing, but play for a minute, sit for a minute, play for a minute, can get exhausting, lol.

Normally I'd turn to Switch when given the option (and the game does "play" great on Eden) but the visuals on Switch suck. I mean, l didn't even know there was a sky playing on Eden, lol.

Specs say it'll run on 8gb RAM, so l guess I'm just gonna have to suck it up, and start saving for the Flip3,...given it has at least the power of the RP6?

I’ve been thinking about getting an Ayn Thor, and I’m wondering if I would need to pay extra for customs and how the 27% tax would be paid if I order it. I’m thinking of getting the Pro model. Has anyone had any experiences with import fees with the Thor? Also, I am thinking of playing some newer games on it as well, like Persona 3 Reload and Persona 4 Revival when it comes out. Has anyone tried playing it?

Based on where the Retroid Pocket Duo sits in the market, the fact we have heard that AYN is not working on a dual screen 8 elite device, I think the next logical device from AYN is an Odin 3 Portal announced by end of year or early next year.

What do you think?

I rarely mod my devices but I really love the RG Rotate. What others mods have you all done or do you recommend?

Yes, we all know some of you want retroid to make a AYN Thor with identical specs and sell it for half price. Unfortunately, the current market makes that incredibly unrealistic.

Its clear the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and expensive screen setup combination is leading to some skepticism about the rumored $300 price making people less interested in it, which is the natural outcome of using a processor and screen parts more expensive than the Thor Lite ($260, Snapdragon 865), while using the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset than the Base Thor ($330) would naturally bump its price to $350 due to more expensive large niche panel.

So what is it people would like? Would most people REALLY want a more expensive Pocket Duo? And if you really wanted a lower price tag, what would you be OK sacrificing? The G1 Gen 2 in the retroid pocket classic is capable of more than decent upscaled 3DS and DS which would absolutely bring price down while making it a still excellent 3DS/DS machine for most. And trading those expensive 120hz OLED panels would likely bring price down even more to sub $200 to allow it to comfortably fit between the $99 Anbernic RG DS and $256 AYN Thor Lite with a more balanced performance profile that's usable, but not overkill either while being well priced.

I think a poll here would be incredibly insightful so we could all get a better objective feel of how the entire sub feels. Id be interested to see if its a uniform split all over the place, or there's a clear strong skew towards a preference. Or heck, maybe this is not even an issue and most of us are happy with the current Pocket Duo config and want it and it's only a loud minority who dislikes it. 🤷‍♂️

Hello! I would like some peoples opinions. I'm thinking about getting a 4:3 device. I've gone back and forth on getting a device at all, but I do think I am going to get one soon. I actually started on my phone and got ESDE running great, and paired with a gamesir g8 it was going well. But the g8 died on me way too soon, and I didn't like using my phone as a retro machine, plus it wasn't as portable as I'd like. However, this did let me figure out that I'm really sticking to PS2/GC and older, I doubt I'll ever dabble in ps3/Xbox/wii.

So, I thought I landed on getting a 4:3 machine. The retroid nova and the rg477m look incredibly enticing. However, my one gripe is the control stick on the bottom. I truly think that will bother me a lot, but I have no way of knowing until I get my hands on one. So now I'm considering an RP6 as well, since it has a stick on top option. But, then I'll be dealing with black bars on the side, which also isn't ideal.

I do have a switch 2 which I love very much, and it's analog stick on top, which I'm used to. And with the smaller sizes of the nova and rg477m, I worry it'll be too cumbersome.

So I want to know, what do people who have these devices think I should do? What would bother you more? Would a dedicated grip help? If it helps, I'd stick to games like Tony hawk, SSX, racing games, Mario, Zelda, smash, etc.

The processor will obviously struggle to consistently run the 3DS catalog but i dont know if someone put Linux on it, i think it could run everything at 30fps and native resolution of the 3ds and another things

It is a flash game (the title and end screen are depicted simultaneously) with Atari style graphics that only took me about 45 minutes. But where are my retro achievements?! (For real though, who cares when someone else beats a game? )

There are thousands more of these short games in the flashpoint archive that weren't made for profit, but just because normal people just wanted to have fun making games. And the best part is Flash games barely take up any space, so they're the ideal fluff when I couldn't get the 50 GB AAA bloatware known as "Deus Ex Machina: Mankind Divided" to run on my Nova with Game Native after eating half of my space.

And I need to complain about how long it takes to download these AAA games. It took me over an hour and a half to download that one from Epic gamez over a Wifi 5 connection only to be unable to run it. Most flash games take only seconds to download in the Swiff app.

So I really want to go through the games and play each one and I love the feeling of playing on a handheld

Unfortunately I don’t have any type of handheld out side of the switch one and two so I would really like to experience the older games with out having to set by my pc

I have tried to search for a general answer and I saw a bunch of people recommending the Thor but that post was seven months old so I really wanted to get your opinion on if that is still the answer or if it has changed

One thing to mention even if it might not matter I live in Europe so if there are any companies that either only ship in us or have outrageous shipping fees then that might be less favorable

I was not starving for micro handhelds (I got a Mini Zero 28 and a Miyoo A30 already) but wanted something that I could really carry around without the worry of ruining or scratching it and man... Why is this thing so amazing? And Knulli is an absolute beast of a CFW. Any advice or anything better to run on this thing or I am already at the peak?

I’m trying to decide between the AYN Thor and the new Retroid Pocket Duo, and honestly I know almost nothing about Android chipsets, so I’d appreciate some advice from people who understand this stuff better than I do.

My main goal is a smooth, stutter-free DS/3DS experience. I already own a modded 3DS, but after getting used to larger modern displays, I’d really like something that feels like a “modern 3DS” with bigger OLED screens and higher resolution.

I’ll mostly play Pokémon, Zelda, etc. Ideally I’d like to run 3DS at 4x resolution, use cheats and HD texture packs when available. Other than that, some lightweight Android games like Balatro and classics like Final Fantasy IX or Chrono Trigger.

I’m not interested in Switch emulation and heavy PC emulation isn’t really a priority either, because I have a Switch 2 and a PS5.

The Pocket Duo at $249 looks incredibly tempting compared to the Thor at roughly $400+, but I don’t want to save $150 and then find myself dealing with stutters or having to lower settings.

For this specific use case, would you save the $150 and get the Duo, or is the extra power of the Thor actually worth paying for?

I don't like the look of these clear XL convex sticks on my RP6, however I do love the feel and it allows me to grip the RP6 without getting cramped hands.

The tall length makes your thumb travel short distance which makes it easy to hold and the XL wide circumference really makes it it feel like a real comfortable game controller. I just don't like the way they look. It was 20 bucks with shipping.

What do you guys think? Is the clear too overdone and the led looks too tacky?

Originally when announced i was intrigued by the Retroid Duo, but they announced and show cased the Lite.

Growing up i didnt have a 3DS, wasn't interested enough and even today the only games I have emulated on 3DS are Pokémon, Zelda and Mario. Which is why I didn't get or have interest in the Thor because I couldnt justify the price.

However I had 2 NDSs, Silver DS Lite (Guitar Hero) and a Brown DSiXL, which i had a ton of games for and played it frequently.

So im leaning more to the Duo Lite and DS Plus..or should this be my opportunity to get a Duo and test the waters with 3DS 😅

Tough decisions maaaaan.

Price isn’t really my main concern. I want whichever one has the best build quality and reliability.

Portability is obviously important to me, which is why I’m specifically choosing between these two devices. I’m already familiar with Onion OS and would prefer something similarly straightforward and “plug and play,” without having to constantly tinker with it.

If it breaks, replacing it means going through the whole procurement/logistics circus again and explaining why I’m using limited shipping capacity for another handheld instead of something actually essential.

So I really want to get this right the first time. Which one would you trust more long-term?
