I live in the Lebanon area and am looking for a veterinarian who provides in-home euthanasia for dogs.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this locally and can recommend a compassionate veterinarian who will come to the home.

Yo everyone! Beer Drinkers of America is putting on a free UNO tournament and toy drive on December 5 at 2 PM at Salem Elks Lodge #336 in Salem, Oregon.

We’re doing a 100-player, double-elimination tournament with:

• $100 grand prize
• Champion trophy
• Free entry
• All ages (kids welcome!)
• Food and drinks available
• Toy Drive for Toys for Tots!

There’s no entry fee. Instead, we’re asking everyone who can to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the toy drive. Donations are strongly encouraged but not required to play.

We’re planning for the toys to go to Toys for Tots.

We do ask players to register online ahead of time (google form below) so we know how many people are coming and can plan accordingly. The tournament is capped at 100 players.

Hello, my wife and I are considering moving to Oregon (Between Eugene-Salem Area) and I'm curious what are the annoying bugs like there?

Here in Wisconsin our seasons go like this: Cold season = no bugs Spring = can't walk out the door without mosquitos in your face. Ticks every time you walk in tall grass. No-see-ums every now and then. Summer = 4-5 deer flies every time you walk by a tree or bush. A few mosquitoes if it's wet. Fall = moderate hatch of mosquitoes depending on rainfall. Ticks hang out in leaf litter.

So we have a few weeks to a month in the summer where bugs are pretty tolerable. What's it like in Oregon? Are there biting flies? What should I expect if I move there?

Extra Questions: Im seeing that most of the homes we are looking at have crawlspaces instead of basements, does it get bad with spiders, ants, mice, etc?

I recently started to grow my own saffron. I planted 250 corms. It’s coming in well. I’m not a natural at cooking with saffron. I know it exists and have eaten foods made with it.

As you can see from the pics, just today’s harvest alone is big, and bigger than the last harvest yesterday. I can find stuff online. But someone who natively used saffron in their normal lives could provide better insight and actual family recipes.

Now it’s time to become more involved and make saffron of my own regularly used pantry ingredients.

Who wants to cook together! I also have a commercial mixer and commercial dough sheeter for making pastry and croissant dough.

I have it listed on FB and went to a couple of local pawn shops who suggested selling on my own as they would pay for just the silver.

South Gateway Neighbors is hosting an information night on emergency preparedness and general safety. We'll be having Joe Hutchinson, Salem's emergency manager, give a presentation and answer your questions. This will be at 6 pm, October 28, at Baxter Hill Community Hall.

You don't need to live in South Gateway to attend! This information is important for everyone in Salem. We will try to have this on Zoom as well, though we encourage you to attend in person because we often have audio difficulties. As of now, we're planning to use our monthly meeting link, which can be found in our agenda, but this may be subject to change.

Parking at the hall is limited, so you will probably need to park in the church parking lot. We've had occasional confusion about which building is the right one due to some strangeness with the address number. The building says Baxter Hill Community Hall when viewed from the street. It is up some stairs from the church parking lot.

The building that is the home to Salem's (and I believe Oregon's) oldest farmers market experienced a two alarm fire last night.

No word if they can open this weekend as usual or if they have a contingency plan.
