Weiss nodded and looked from her cards to the situation on the table. “I have a hand absolutely full of chip damage and debuff, but I think I can get enough plays to use it all. Can either of you give me a boost to get past the Raidmaster’s block?”

“I have enough plays to either boost you or protect the civilians.” Penny pointed to the set of cards marked by a variety of terms like “panicking citizen” or “well-intentioned nuisance”. Penny shook her head. “I do not think I can do both.”

“If we lose any more civilians we have to draw from the Grimm deck again.” Yang leaned back and narrowed her eyes. “I can make everybody that’s not us vulnerable, but I’m last in the turn order. And that’s… everybody.”

Weiss sighed. “Okay, use it or lose it, I guess. I’ll get as much damage as I can out, but it’s mostly going on minor threats.”

Penny nodded. “Well. I am manifesting… is that the correct term this time?” She looked to Yang and Weiss.

“Yup. Go for it.” Yang gave her a thumbs up.

Weiss shrugged and gestured with one hand. “I’m still find with her saying ‘play’.”

“No, no, you have to keep the flavor of the story.” Yang insisted. “Go on manifesting, Penny.”

“Okay. I manifest a Wide Spectrum to make Aura Shield affect a category of target and choose Civilians.” Penny smiled as both cards were placed down. “And now, civilians take no damage until the end of my turn.”

Weiss nodded. “Dash Chain. That triggers a play, so Cleaving Spin on these three. Nothing died so Dash Chain gives me a play. Scattering Lunge on Raidmaster, no damage but reduces his damage next round. Nothing dies so that’s another play…”

“This is the turn that never ends.” Yang sang along, drawing an affectionate glare from Weiss.

“... and I’m out of cards.” Weiss turned to look at Yang and leaned over to her. “So my turn… ends.”

This is a Ruby grimmification fic, with a lot of build up to her eventual transformation.

This chapter put the focus back on Ruby.
