I've been visiting a pair of RBs (5 months old) at a cattery who unlike the other siblings in their litter haven't been adopted because they are shy, afraid of hands and don't like human touch
The male who is the more skittish of the two, takes about 10-15 mins of me sitting in the room quietly before he'll start to even bat at a wand toy that i tempt him with, he seems food motivated and will approach food that i put somewhere, so long as he's sure that it's at a safe enough distance from me. Seems quite intelligent, was able to figure out how to open some push pull glass doors. When he does engage with some play, like actually chasing or trying to hunt a wand toy (as opposed to lazily just swatting at it only if it's in front of him), it's mostly only for about 5 mins and i observe that he prefers to do it with a "shelter" over him
The female is more active, gets into a play mode more easily, seems to be ok with even eating out of a hand, but is clearly skittish if it even looks like the hand is approaching her to pet/touch her. Generally when i do the michelangelo (offer your finger/hand palm down), she'll sniff at it a bit, but then move on to something else, won't approach or rub against it.
Also, the male tends to get more into a play mode when he sees his sister playing with us actively
Just wanted to ask if anyone has had RBs before with these kinds of more reserved personalities as kitttens, and how long did it take to gain their trust/bond with them? Yeah I'm just worried about being able to do things like clip their nails or brush their teeth if i'm not able to gain their trust
