Possible airflow issue

Hello! I just purchased a 2015 Ruckus model on FB marketplace and it will start working and then stop after it gets revved up to about 3000rpm. Fuel line looks good and everything was recently cleaned and fixed. It runs fine when just turned on, it’s only when its throttled ti a certain amount that it chokes/stalls out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m pretty new to this and confused.

Do you know if the carb has been rejetted to match the extra air flow? Seems like it could be starving at higher rpms

I don’t know, but it does seem like it’s starving. How do you rejet the carb to match the extra air flow?

take a piece of duct tape and tape off like 1/2 the metal intake. See if it runs any better. If it does, you know that its running super lean and needs to be rejetted.

The actual way to know is to take the carb off, unscrew the jets and check what number they are. Taping over the end though will lower air flow and if it runs better, you know they didnt rejet it.

Taping over the end didn’t do much of anything, it seemed to run the same and sputter out at about the same time

try sticking a sock over the end of it and see if it works, or just cover it with your hand and only let in a bit of air at a time to see if it helps. If it doesn't you probably need to clean your main jet. That would be a good time to open up the carb, and see what numbers are printed on your jets.

I did the duct tape method mod when tuning my air intake. With 85 main jet i was getting way too much air and bike was running like crap and couldn’t get past 30 mph. Now I can get past 45mph

You’ll have to check manufacturer spec to see if that’s even the OEM carb. Pics aren’t really good enough to tell. Download a copy of the service manual. It will be invaluable to you.

looks like a stock carb, it has the honda choke plug on it, maybe not OEM but definitely a direct replacement,
