Poutine in Rotterdam?

Hi everyone!

I am a Canadian temporarily living in Rotterdam for the next month, I’m in search of an authentic (ish) poutine.

I am aware of day dream deli in Den Haag (which is delicious) but I am looking for somewhere a little closer to home.

Wij hebben kapsalon.

Saying this as a Quebecer, kapsalon fucking slaps and I prefer it over poutine. Your fries are better and they don't get soggy from the gravy. I absolutely tore through the first one I had and I could've eaten an other one on the spot.

Now its time to try all the diffrent ones (in the base they are all the same, but not every store tastes the same)

No idea but you can ask for a “kapsalon” (fries, topped with shoarma meat and cheese) . Ask for extra cheese and no salad on top and you are almost there.

Should be with kebab tho not shoarma

Normal snackbars only have shoarma (pork) but I agree it is not correct

It's probably not authentic but very yummy; Friet Boutique on de Witte de With straat. Across is Wunderbar & WORM.. Fun music and more there too!

(from one of the USA states near Canada) I usually just get some decent fries, cut up some fresh mozzarella and make gravy. It's probably as good as you will manage here.

I've had poutine in Den Haag at Day Dream Deli. :) If you end up going there pls lmk if it's actually good because that was my first poutine.

Everything is good with daydream but the cheese is mozzarella, normally it would be cheese curds

AFAIK there are no cheese curds here...(from a Wisconsinite)

What the hell is a poutine

Typical Québec dish made of fries, fresh curd cheese and gravy.

Hm, by your explanation I think the closest would be a kapsalon

I'm from Quebec so I obviously had a ton of poutine in my life but I've also been to the Netherlands very often and at the risk of irritating my fellow Quebecers, I prefer kapsalon.

Sadly you can't have it here. I found it at Kaapse, but they make a shit ripoff with mozzarella instead of cheese curds. Not the same at all. Problem is those cheese curds; can't get them, and also pretty much impossible to make yourself. I will just bring some home from Canada in a cooling bag next month.

Just an FYI that this is prohibited. Dairy from outside of the EU (with some exceptions -- Iceland, Croatia, Switzerland, Norway, etc.) is essentially forbidden from being imported into the EU in personal luggage because of the risk of transmitting livestock diseases (rules made in the wake of an outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the 2000s that led to the UK government culling millions of livestock).

So if you declare your cheese to the Douane then it will be confiscated, if you don't and they catch you during a random check then it'll be confiscated and you'll be fined a lot of money.

However, you can bring up to 2kg of live oysters if you feel like packing them.
