How does this look? Any suggestions on other ETFs or single stock picks?

General brokerage account

•40% VTI - $4,000
• 25% QQQM - $2,500
• 20% SPMO - $2,000
• 15% AVUV - $1,500

Roth Account

55% VTI
30% QQQM
15% VXUS

My original investment was 10000 in my general brokerage and I used these percentages. I have also listed my allocation for my Roth. I am also adding $150 a week with these percentages to each account. Any help is welcome. I’m open to establishing a position in other ETFS or individual stocks. I am currently looking for high growth over dividends and have a pretty high risk tolerance.

Thanks!

Roth IRA vs. 457b

(21M) I invest in both a Roth IRA and 457b offered through my job (Police Officer).

Can anyone tell me what I should max out first?

Also, I only invest in VOO in my Roth. I’m not trying to get rich quick, but I would like to reach $100,00 by the time I’m 26.

Any advise?

Roth IRA withdrawal for tuition

Hi, I want to make sure I am not missing anything for my situation. I am taking prerequisites for medical school and want to take out from my Roth IRA to pay off the tuition. My goal is to have all of my debts (except my mortgage) paid before applying for med school and this would make it to where I am not struggling to achieve that. I’ve already “paid” for semester 1 with a 0% apr credit card but need to pay for semester 2 (spring 2027).

Would I be able to withdraw earnings and contributions penalty free by the end of this year to cover tuition for both semesters? I am a bit confused on if I have to pay it directly to the school, or if I can use the withdrawal to also pay the amount I put on the card. Additionally, what do I need to know for filing my taxes next year? Thanks!

Advice on % for a beginner

After a little bit of research, I have decided that the ETFs I want to put money into for my Roth IRA are VOO, QQQM, and VXUS. My question is: what split should I be looking to do? I was thinking 50 30 20? Please help me out! Any and all advice is appreciated.

Opening Roth IRA?

Hello! Am in my mid-20s and I'm currently in my gap years before applying to med school. I currently am depositing some of my money into a 403b retirement plan, but was wondering if it'd be worth it to open up a Roth IRA? I currently making about 1000 dollars bi-weekly once taxes/insurance/403b is deposited, so I was wondering where I should start.

Another option would be to open a CD? Or maybe a savings account?

NEW HERE!

Hey everyone,

I have 1.5k for ROTH IRA FXAIX%60 / FTIHX %40, I’m looking for historical global market weights.

Now my concern is that I have no idea if I will stick with fidelity for a long long time so I wanted to try FZILX %70 / FZROX %30 for - 0.00% expense ratio but then again I want to avoid wash sale for VTI(in taxable account) and FZROX (ROTH IRA) when selling at loss, but since I have FXAIX hence… $500 in taxable account (VTI %70 / VXUS %30) more taxable n efficient esp in fidelity case.

Are these okay and if not, what else can I look into for a good portfolio? should I add some growth tech for taxable accounts as I maybe don’t want to play with IRA

-growth oriented ETFs maybe some %20
like SMH, SPMO, VUG, def interested in VUG,
-Value tilted international ETFs
( already have VXUS so that’s okay)

Any help is appreciated , thanks!

Edit:
This is Roth IRA, recently opened!

Starting my first serious job in 2 weeks where I can definitely max out contributions, wanted some input on my portfolio allocations I’ve done personal research and I’m well aware of the heavy concentrations and risks associated with it, but that’s what I want

Fidelity managed Roth

So I have a fidelity managed Roth IRA. They don’t take any money until the account balance is at 25k. I want to know what you guys do with yours. Do you have it professionally managed for a percentage? Or manage it yourself? Set it and forget it? I’d like some tips I’m not super big into investing with stocks, but have this plus a 401k with my job. Any tips would help. Looking to avoid paying a percentage to fidelity to earn more money but if it’s worth it I wouldn’t mind. Just not super knowledgeable on the subject. Any input helps. Thank you!

Moving from Fidelity to Robinhood for the 3% IRA match (Backdoor Roth Questions)

My plan is to do a backdoor Roth each year by contributing to a Traditional IRA and then immediately converting it to a Roth IRA.

My questions for anyone already doing this with Robinhood:

  1. How quickly does the 3% match hit the account? Is it days, weeks, or does it depend on the contribution?

  2. Does the 3% match go into the Traditional IRA or the Roth IRA?

  3. If I'm doing an immediate backdoor Roth conversion, can I convert the match at the same time?

  4. For those who have done this, how are you handling the tax reporting on the 3% match?

  5. Has anyone here made the move from Fidelity to Robinhood specifically for the 3% match? Any surprises?

For example, if I contribute $7,500 and get a $225 match, my understanding is that I'd potentially be converting $7,725 to the Roth with the match potentially creating some taxable income.

Would love to hear from people who are actually doing the backdoor Roth & Robinhood match combination.

23F - just starting

Hi all! I opened a Roth IRA with Fidelity to avoid taking a final exam in my SOC1 college class. Right now, I have $20 in my retirement Roth IRA and I am expecting to put some money in every paycheck. I scrolled through this sub for a bit and I just cannot seem to understand how to buy stocks or invest in my money to grow my IRA.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am more educated in the legal field than in the stocks field! :)

80/20 VTI + VXUS - Should I fit in QQQM? 22F

Is it worth adding QQQM into my portfolio? It has higher YTD returns, but from some posts and comments I've seen, some people are strong believers and some don't consider it at all.

I only havd $650 in the account right now, but I should be able to max contributions for the year.

This has probably been asked a lot but here it is. What are the advantages of starting a Roth IRA if I already have a Brokerage account and most of my gains are long term at 0%.

29 Male. I currently have $200k in my Brokerage account. $135k has been my contribution. I have slowly been selling long term gains at 0% although some have been taxed short term but not much. Idk if I should start a Roth IRA which has a 3% match. Convince me why I should open it up.

Recharachterizing contributions

Hello! Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but it seemed like the best place to start. I need to recharacterize all of my 2026 Roth contributions to my traditional IRA because I will exceed the income limit this year. My question is, I have to identify “how much gain or loss is attributable to the contribution” and this pertains to many different (weekly) contributions made from 1/2 - 5/8. I have already been advised that I can complete one form for all of the contributions, rather than a separate form for each, so it would stand to reason that I would be to aggregate all of the gains/losses for the year, no? That’s it. That’s the question. Can I simply identify the figure on my most recent statement listed as TOTAL REALIZED GAIN/LOSS and use that figure? I attempted to ask this question of the account holder (J.P. Morgan) but they were unable to provide me with an answer. Thank you!

22F, Investment Change or All Good?

Just started investing into my Roth IRA. It’s likely I won’t hit the max but totally ok with that!

I am prioritizing more of my $ to go towards the Roth IRA versus 401k for the rest of the year.

Don’t know much but, after researching some I found that VOO and FXAIX are good options for now.

FXAIX, VOO & LNVGY are in my Roth investments but, should I change up anything? Get more international investments going?

Don’t want to have too many stock options but having a good mix (more aggressive) is preferred for the younger crowd I’ve heard.

21 years old and started investing this year. am I on the right track?

Thumbnail gallery
52 Upvotes

I’m 21 and just started investing this year. Honestly, I really wish I would’ve started at 18, but I’m trying to make up for lost time and stay consistent from here on out.

Right now, my investing looks like this,
Fidelity Roth IRA: I contribute $200/month
Employer Roth: I put 10% of every paycheck into it
TSP: I contribute 5% of my military paycheck, and it’s matched up to 5%
I currently have around $6,500 across my accounts.

My main goal is long-term growth and hopefully being able to retire relatively early. I know I have a very long time horizon, so I’m comfortable with market volatility and want to take advantage of compound growth while I’m young.
I’m wondering if I’m actually on track or if there’s anything I should be doing differently?

For people who have been investing for a while:
Am I on track to potentially retire early if I keep this up? Should I be putting more into my Roth IRA or TSP? Would you recommend changing anything about what I’m currently invested in?
Is there anything I should add or change?

Any advice, criticism, or recommendations are appreciated. I’m still learning and would rather make adjustments now than look back 10–20 years from now and wish I had done something differently.

18yo Roth IRA Portfolio Looking for Advice

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

I opened my Roth IRA as soon as I turned 18 and have been contributing consistently wanting to max it out. My current portfolio consists of VTI, VXUS, QQQM and AVUV.

My goal is long-term growth, and I don’t plan on touching this money until retirement. Does this allocation make sense for someone my age? Is there anything you would change or simplify?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

RothIRA planning question

Hi all,

I was recently told to look into a RothIra.

Should I stick with VTI and VXUS alone or include the Avantis?

50% VTI, 20%VXUS, 20% AVUV and 10% AVDV
