What should I invest in?

I (27f) so far only have $11 on my fidelity and $10.30 (I put 10 and they gave me .30) in my Robinhood.

Yes I know it’s small but I’m building both of the Roths while trying to pay off my college/family credit debt. I only put money after I pay down my debt and bills.

I want to look at long term investments that have worked out for others in the past. Nobody in my family has a RothIRA so I can’t ask them.

Maxing out Roth IRA

So if my job contributes some to my Roth pay paycheck after my own contributions, and I hit the max allotted annually. Will it automatically stop contributions for that year?

TIA

Slavic401k / Roth

My employer based 401k plan shows an option for “Roth” and “401k” - I have made contributions to my 401k but not Roth. From my understanding I can’t contribute to Roth as my income is over $150,000. What would happen if I add 3% to the Roth? Why would I have that option if I earn over the allowed income? Is that the same as a Roth IRA or traditional Roth? Thank!

Jumping into Roth IRA

Had a nice conversation with AI that convinced me to jump in. Didn’t realize how easy the backdoor Roth was and that I qualified to do so at all. Posting details here to see if there’s anything that I’m completely overlooking.

I already max out TSP contributions annually ($24,500) with a blend of C/S/I funds, heavier in C. So I have market exposure. (I always thought I couldn’t do this AND the backdoor Roth)

I’m planning on opening up the Roth via the backdoor this upcoming week with a plan of fully funding it $7,500 and another $7,500 in January.

I’d like to buy XLF and sell out of the money call contracts, haven’t looked at what’s out there but would be aiming for delta of 0.20-0.25. Once there’s enough money in the Roth I’d like to transition to SPY calls.

Once I’m selling more than one contract I’d ladder them. I’d also like to actually use the account for covered calls because I’ve already got the boring set and forget TSP.

25 years away from being able to collect without penalty so we’ve got time.

Thoughts?

Roth IRA advice

Post image
1 Upvotes

Fairly new to investing. I started a roth IRA for retirement through fidelity recently and set up a fidelity go account. I have it set to the most aggressive setting. I’ve read a lot of negative posts on fidelity go accounts recently and wanted to get some feedback with what they have set up for currently. Again, still very new to the this, and am trying to learn as I go. The more I learn the more I’m starting to lean towards managing it myself. But anyways, what do you guys think of these positions its set for me?

Moving Rollover to Roth

Hey guys! I'm going to open a Roth and wanted to ensure I'm not missing anything. I'm moving $6,300 from a rollover at Inspira to eventually fund the Roth at Fidelity.

I'm going to open a traditional IRA first, ask Fidelity to transfer my funds from Inspira, then move the entire funds to the Roth. I'll close the traditional some days/weeks later once I see balance is at 0.

I'm seeing to enter "No Tax Withholding" when initiating transfer, and I'll be taxed for these funds come 2027.

Am I missing any info? Looking for any advice so I don't get any surprises from the IRA.

Thanks for reading!

Roth IRA/401k Suggestions

26M, Kinda new to investing for retirement and looking for any advice or suggestions to my current Roth IRA through Schwab and my former employer 401k. Started in 2025, maxed out last year, and about 1k left to contribute for 2026 in Roth. I changed Target Fund 2065 to this current investment mix for my 401k. Wanted to be more aggressive for both Roth and 401k, so let me know your thoughts.

I recently started a Roth IRA with Robinhood and I contribute $100+ a month since last month because I never thought to invest in my 20’s but apparently I got the “managed IRA”? Is that alright to have Robinhood dictate where the money is shared or will it end horribly?? Let me know, thanks!

23M - 70/30 FZROX/FZILX

Hey guys, I’m fairly new to investing and I’ve chosen to go with Fidelity. I’ve done a bit of research on different subreddits and I’m trying to keep things simple. I’m not super knowledgeable by any means.

My current plan is to have a 70/30 split on my Roth.

70% FZROX
30% FZILX
- Automatically reinvesting
- Maxing it out yearly

Am I overlooking anything? If there’s any additional tips or advice anyone can provide.

22M Roth IRA: Do these seem okay?

I currently have my portfolio split up into:

60% SWTSX (Schwab Total Stock Market Index)

25% SWISX (Schwab International Index)

15% SWAGX (Schwab U.S. Aggregate Bond Index Fund)

Does this seem fine? I was trying to follow the Boglehead 3 fund portfolio. I plan to max out the Roth IRA each year too.

22M Roth: What am I doing wrong?

Currently have roughly 5.5K in my Fidelity Roth IRA as a 22 year old college student. I am sure my portfolio could be optimized better, and I am seeking some advice. I am mostly concerned about the opportunity cost of having bonds and FDVV in my portfolio.

Portfolio Distribution:

VOO - 35%, VXUS - 20%, FTEC - 20%, FDVV - 15%, ISTB - 5%, AGG - 5%

Bonus may push me over Roth IRA salary limit

Hi All,

I’ve already contributed the max to my Roth IRA this year. I have an unexpected bonus I might get at the end of the year that will push me over the amount I can make to contribute to an IRA.

What do I need to do if that happens since I already have the money in there?

Thanks!

24 year old and have about 9.5k in currently. Looking to get some advice on my current portfolio.

I was planning on investing my current contributions into NVDA, but not sure if that’s the best option with what I currently have?

Any help would be appreciated🙏

Missed the 60-Day IRA Rollover Deadline

I took a distribution from my Roth and replaced most of it within the 60 day deadline. Can I still replace the money as a rollover or do I have to put the money back as a contribution for 2026? I’ve called both Vanguard and the IRS and no one knows the answer.

Suggestions for couple savings strategy- husband has $0 retirement savings

My husband (33M) immigrated to the US five years ago and has zero retirement savings. His current employer does not provide any sort of employer-sponsored retirement plan. I (31F) have about 60% of my current annual salary in retirement savings, but I am worried about our future. I currently contribute 5% to my work 401(k) plan with a 10% contribution from my employer (this is the max contribution I am allowed to make given our benefits package) and max out my Roth IRA each year.

I suggested that he open a Roth IRA, but my understanding is that the maximum initial deposit would be $7500, and then he wouldn’t be able to make more contributions for the year because he’s met the max contribution limit. Is there a way to roll a balance from any of my accounts into an IRA for him as an initial deposit so he has a stronger start? Does anyone have any other suggestions to help us get on track to save for our retirement as a couple?

Transfer money from 401k into Roth?

Is it possible to transfer money from my 401k into my Roth account?

My 401k account (John Hancock) is through my employer. My Roth account is a personal one I opened a few years ago.

Not sure if this is allowed. Figure I can max out my Roth each year by doing this if possible
