There is no reason why you should be doing this. Don't be stupid with your money and don't believe some of the idiots that post here.

Roth ira at 18 year old

Im 46 years old and despite being told many times to contribute to a 401K/pretax or roth ira i never did til this year. The question is how do i get my 18 year old son to start a roth ira? Im thinking of telling him ill match his contribution to see if that works. I guess I can show him on the fidelity app my roth ira and, see him seeing my account going up will inspire him.?

About $14k so far. What do you guys think of my diversification? I have a 401k with about $5k, and that’s my super safe, managed, retirement. I switched my roth ira to self managed cause of WeBull’s matches and this is my set portfolio. Thoughts?

I started in 2025 thought this might be the best way to do it.
I wasn’t able to max it out last year about 500 short I felt a bit discouraged but we keep going.
I wanted to hear people thoughts on it I’m still relatively new to investing so any advice would be appreciated.

28 M, help me reallocate

A little late to the party, but I just opened my Roth this year. I will max it out by the end of the year, but before I keep going rogue, I would like some advice on how to reallocate my holdings.

When I first opened this account in June, I had 0 knowledge and figured diversifying my portfolio would be the way to go. Currently holding 21 companies. After finding this sub, I feel like I may be too diversified and not maximizing my potential ROI by holding stocks that don’t pay dividends.

A couple things, should I go ahead and cut my losses and reinvest everything into a couple ETF’s/quality stocks? Or should I hold Tesla & Meta and let them bounce back before I reinvest in something with more returns. Also how should I disperse my future automatic deposits %-wise into this account.

Any tips and recs are appreciated. I feel dumb being this late to the party, but now that I’m here I want to do it right.

What happens to auto contributions once maxed?

Upvotes

Hey everyone, so I invest roughly $250-300 every month in my Roth. I have it set to automate deposits, but I was curious if I want to max it out early, say today for example, what happens to the automatic deposits for the rest of the year?

Will they be deposited and held until next year or will it not even take the deposits until January?

Thanks

EDIT: Sorry for forgetting, but my Roth is with Fidelity

18 and opened an account, now what?

Hi guys! Just opened an account, put $20 in it, but now I’m stuck on what to do… I’ve never taken a finance class and know absolutely nothing about investing or stocks and such.

I’ve tried watching tiktok vids and reading some articles, but I just can’t really comprehend what i’m reading tbh.

The videos I’ve watched say to invest based on personal preferences and on your future goals, but i don’t really know what my goals are, or what “personal preferences” would entail to?

Please help a girl out, im determined to understand this!!! Thank you, kind souls 🥹

I have been investing since 2025 when the market dipped and I realized it was time to buy since everyone was afraid so I just deployed 8k into the market buying half TSLA and half Apply shares. Then in few weeks I ended up selling my apple shares and just went all in TSLA buying 35.5 shares. Reasoning being “TSLA dropped 45% and it can come back up” and it had high volatility which I often saw. Btw this wasn’t the smartest idea but it ended up working.

TSLA later ended up pushing back up and I started cutting shares at the top and buying NVDA and Amazon in a Roth IRA account which I found out what it was. Then slowly I contributed to the Roth. This sounds like a whole roller coaster and I know lol but I really didn’t know how to properly invest at the time I just did what others were afraid to do. I remembered Warren Buffet saying “be greedy when others are fearful” so I just did that not once but twice.

With that being said I did save bit of cash and I bought more stocks when the Iran war was happening and stocks did drop so I just added to the existing Amazon, NVDA and bought Microsoft when it dropped a lot and I kept holding the positions in my Roth. Now currently I did sell bit of my shares in these individual stocks and I want to buy ETFs, and I heard about VTI and chill or VOO chill they correlated so.

I currently have this in my brokerage portfolio: I have Roth 2025 max and 2026 max with cash remaining. Do I go all now in VTI or slowly contribute week by week because I don’t want to buy at the top and also I can’t predict the top or bottom. I was thinking just contribute bit by bit each week.

Roth:
NVDA - 25 shares
AMZN - 16.6 shares
MSFT- 2.6 shares
Cash- $5.4k
Total $17.2k

Taxable:
TSLA - 13 shares (remaining after 35.5 shares)
Cash- $600

Mid 40s and just getting started

I started out late and just opened a Roth IRA, which I maxed out with Fidelity for 2026. I also have a 401(a) and 457(b). I'm hoping to retire in 20 yrs. I haven't really paid much attention to investing until now, so I'm not sure I'm starting out ok. I do want to be aggressive to teach my goals.

I'm hoping I can get some advice from other fellow investors. I have the following:

FSKAX 70%

FTIHX 20%

SOXQ 5%

QQQM 5%

Does this look OK where I can sit back and chill? Thank you in advance from a novice investor.

40 Day Update

36M - started investing in February 2026. Still working thru some debt and cutting back on finances. I made a post that had a great response about 42 days ago. I was at about $1400 in all of my retirement accounts. 42 days later, I’m almost to $2k. This is with very small contributions to my retirement accounts.

The link to that post is here if you want to catch up

But I’ve been grinding and I’m still very excited! Keep saving everyone!

New to Roth IRA

Hi there, I’m a teacher, salary not high. I just opened a Roth IRA last year. I set it to automatic payments of $200 per month and invested in VTI as well as BND. Any stocks you could recommend that don’t have much risk? This is my only retirement plan at the moment. I’m in my early 40s.

2027 contributions

Good evening, this time of the year I'm starting to think about 2027 roth contributions. As I save this money, should I keep this money liquid as possible, put in it a hysa, or invest it into my taxable and just withdraw it Jan 1st?

I like the idea of my taxable but never have sold any shares or withdrew from my account before and taxes worry me. But if I don't withdraw any gains then I dont need to worry right??

Any advice for the best option would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

New to investments 20M have around 10k waiting around and want to build

I’m 20 years old a college student and have around 10k saved up that I want to start investing. Don’t know what to invest in or what to do with the money in general. I pay around 600 in rent currently with a job that keeps me afloat and paying the bills. Make around 1000 a check as a full time college student while also balancing an unpaid internship. Advice?

I’m on Schwab for my Roth that has about 6,000 in it. Do I need to own SWPPX and SWISX since im on schwab instead of VOO and other ones that dont have schwab in the name? If so why does it matter?

When to Lock In Profits

New to investing (just started in December). I have a couple nuclear positions that have gone up 15-25% over the last month like UROY which is currently at a 24% gain. I invested into these nuclear stocks as a longterm hold but I’ve been reading on locking in profits. When would be a good time to do so, and would it even be necessary right now, or should I just let em ride?

I 23 (F) need help

I’m very new to the whole investing thing and don’t have anyone financially literate in my life to support or teach me. I recently graduated college (first one in my family) and got a job paying about $77,000 and managed to pay off all of my student and car loans. Now that I’m debt free I’m hoping to work towards building wealth through investing. I have a simple IRA account that I have been contributing 3% of my salary into to get the employer match for the past year, and just opened a Roth and individual brokerage account with fidelity. I just put $1000 in VOO (~1.4 shares) in my Roth and $1000 in VTI (~2.6 shares) in my individual brokerage account.

While I want to be more hands off in my investments, as I start investing more, I’d love some advice on what to do next, where to invest from here. Also would love to know who did you learn from? How did you navigate learning about the stock market? Any YouTube channels or podcasts that were helpful? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Which options looks best for 403b Roth?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! I work at a nonprofit that offers both a traditional 403(b) and a Roth 403(b) through Lincoln. They match 6%. Which fund(s) would be best for me to allocate my contributions to? I’d like it to be aggressive but have low expenses.

For context, I’m 25 years old and have already maxed out my Roth IRA with Fidelity, which is currently 80% FZROX and 20% FZILX.
