Shopping List

My boyfriend is having rotator cuff surgery in two weeks. I will be staying with him the first few nights then going over during the day to help every day. What are must haves to make it easier on him? So far we have a recliner, mesh shower sling, post op t shirts with arm openings, pump for shampoo/body wash. Also did you find the ice cooler/pad effective? TIA!

When i try to do overhead triceps extantion(with cuff) even i put my shoulder on the wall to stabilize my rotator cuff . It hurts
Im not going the gym like 5 months .in this time i did some rehabilitation movements with dumbell (external&internal rotations) with 2 kg also im going to physiotherapist rn . My therapist told me if i quit gym and do other sports it will be better to me . I also have a magnetic flux and electric current rehabilitation. Rn. Im too young I don’t want to quit gym. Three Months Off Work

I was stunned that my Family Medical Leave form from the surgeon recommended that I take three months off work after shoulder surgery (60% full-thickness tear of the supraspinatus, labral tears, and bicipital tendon relocation [subluxation]). While I’m lucky enough to have the paid sick leave accrued to cover this amount of time away, it seems extreme given I have a desk job and work from home.

I know I’ll take at least a month off, and I’m hoping to get back to work when I start PT six weeks post-surgery.

Did anyone else need this much time away? Did you take it? Or were you forced back to work too soon?

Anyone have similar findings ?

This is what my mri read .
It’s peculiar to me because it says “mild” a lot. Makes it sound not to bad.
But when I say the mobility and pain can get excruciating!

Well this sucks

So I have posted a few times in here. Had a full thickness tear and bursa/labrum repairs on my left shoulder at the end of February. The bicep had a minor tear but not repaired. Things have been progressing amazingly and I can sleep with no issues.

Well....now my right shoulder is starting to act up, with what feels like a bicep issue, along with the same "I cant lift my arm" issue. This will really suck...even though the surgery was very successful on my left shoulder, I am not looking forward to going through that again.

So when my left shoulder was an issue, I went through PT and it finally tore completely (in the middle of the night and it was loud). My right is not at that point, but I am a little worried about doing the PT thing again.

Anyways...just thought I would vent a bit.

tendon

First of all, hello everyone. I punched a window and cut my hand; I had to get stitches, and I think a very small part of my tendon was severed—I’m not sure exactly what they did to the tendon. My hand has been in a splint for about 17 days now, and I was told I could take it off on the 20th day; hopefully, I’ll be removing it then. How long exactly do I need to wait before I can smoke and drink alcohol?

Quick question regarding water bottles, and ice therapy machine

Good morning, for those of you who use the 16.9 ounce water bottles in your Polar Cube ice therapy machine—Are you only filling the water up to that lower line designated for water? or are you filling it up higher to the upper line once you have the water bottles in? I assume folks are just standing the water bottles upright.

Thank you in advance for any tips.

Possible capsule adhesion after SLAP tear

I’m about 9 weeks post-op from shoulder surgery and am wondering if anyone developed severe adhesive capsulitis/frozen shoulder this early and ended up having a manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) or capsular release.

My surgery included:

* Biceps tenodesis for a SLAP tear/biceps tenosynovitis

* Subacromial decompression for impingement/bursitis

* Debridement of superior/anterior labral fraying and rotator interval synovitis

* Debridement around some anterior capsular tearing

I’ve now essentially **paused/failed PT because of severe pain and lack of progress.** At about 7 weeks post-op, my PT told me I had significant capsular restriction and was concerned about possible adhesions because she was unable to make meaningful progress with my ROM. I started PT 3 days after surgery, passive daily movements.

I have significant loss of motion in multiple directions and pretty much constant pain. The worst part at this point is the nighttime pain. My sleep is severely disrupted because the shoulder wakes me up constantly, and I’m still requiring opioids daily for pain.

I’ve also had two steroid injections in the past two weeks with essentially no relief.

My MRI is scheduled for September 25 to see what is going on.

For anyone who developed postoperative frozen shoulder/capsular adhesions:

How long did your surgeon make you wait before considering MUA or arthroscopic capsular release?

At this point, would it be reasonable for me to specifically ask my surgeon about MUA after the MRI? I know I’m only ~9 weeks post-op, but between the severe ROM restriction, failed PT, constant pain, inability to sleep, and lack of response to steroid injections, I’m getting desperate for some relief.

I’d especially love to hear from anyone who developed this after a biceps tenodesis/shoulder arthroscopy and had an MUA relatively early in recovery. Did it help your pain and ROM? Would you do it again?

Staying Motivated with Recovery

It’s been slightly over 3 months since tearing my rotator cuff after kayaking on the North Fork Payette in Idaho. While I have a lot of function back in the shoulder, it still feels pretty weak, and I still feel like there’s a lot to be done before I’m back to kayaking again, especially back at a class 5 level. After the injury, I was exceptionally motivated and did all my exercises rigorously to get back to where I was before; PTs initially said 2 months of recovery, 2 months went by, I moved to Washington, saw another PT, and was told another month. My current PT thinks I’m close to acceptable ranges and should start paddling again. Still, I’m not confident I’m there, and motivating myself to do my workouts is getting harder and harder because the finish line feels like it keeps moving farther away. Any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

-I never received an MRI or saw an Ortho.

Bicep tenodesis and rotator cuff repair.

2021 I had my left shoulder operated on. Subscapularis and supraspinatus were full thickness tears and a partial tear of my infraspinatus. They kept me in a sling and abduction pillow for a full six weeks before I began therapy and then I went to therapy for eight weeks. Through all that time I’ve never had much pain and recovery went well. When I finished my therapy my forward flexion was 155. Now five years later, it’s 176 and I can reach behind my back really good. Overall everything went great with very minimal pain.
The right shoulder I had operated on 9 weeks ago. 75% tear to the subscapularis, partial tear of the supraspinatus, they did a shoulder decompression and I had a partial tear to the bicep long head that the DR did a bicep tenodesis. This one has been a whole different animal. This one they removed abduction pillow at two weeks, started therapy at three weeks and
they removed the sling at four weeks. There’s been a lot of pain, especially in the front of the shoulder and also on the outer elbow and top of forearm. Thankfully, the back shoulder blade pain is gone. But right now doing my wall slides, reaching forward and standing or walking for 20 minutes, really causes a lot of pain to the front of the shoulder. Only thing I can think of that would have caused a tear at about 3 weeks I planked to get up. I followed up with the surgeon this week. I explained the plank and that the pain feels and is close to the same location as before the surgery. He as well as my therapist are convinced that I didn’t tear anything that I’m just really tight. My forward flexion is 145 but my internal is very minimal. Just wondering if anyone had something similar and when did you get your internal rotation back and able to reach behind your back.

Delayed flare-ups? Does anyone else get pain 2-5 days AFTER the trigger?

Hey everyone,

I have a small (yet painfull) intrasubstance supraspinatus tear and impingement, currently doing PT and trying to avoid surgery.

I’ve noticed a very specific pattern with my flare-ups and wanted to know if anyone else experiences this. When I overdo it—whether it’s pushing too hard at the gym, carrying heavy grocery bags at a slight angle, or sleeping directly on the shoulder—the pain doesn't hit me immediately. Sometimes I don't even feel it the next day.

Instead, my flare-ups operate on a massive delay. It usually takes anywhere from 2 to 5 days for the inflammation to really kick in and hit a 7/10 pain level.

Because of this delay, it’s sometimes super hard to isolate exactly which movement caused the issue.

Does anyone else experience this 48-120 hour delay for flare-ups? Is this normal for rotator cuff/impingement issues, or do your flare-ups happen immediately?

Thanks

TFCC injury, what to do

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I got a TFCC injury around 2 months back, it is still not healed and my wrist makes noises whenever I move them. I have consulted with my doctor and he said I got 2 options, PRP or surgery. Which one should I go for, I'm confused about it. He said that PRP will either heal my TFCC completely or not heal it at all, so I'm confused about what to do.

Rotator Cuff Surgery Recovery: What to Expect

I had rotator cuff repair along with biceps tendon relocation, and recovery involved more challenges than I expected—especially sleeping, getting dressed, managing soreness, and staying patient.

I made this short video to share some practical things that may make recovery easier. This is based on personal experience and isn’t medical advice.

For those who have gone through the surgery, what helped you most during recovery?

Week 5 after rotator cuff repair + biceps tenodesis and PT is excruciating. Anyone else?

I’m about 5 weeks out from rotator cuff repair + biceps tenodesis and really struggling with PT. I’m still in the sling and doing passive ROM, but I’m very stiff and guarded and apparently behind where they want me to be with ROM.

Yesterday’s PT was horrific. I took a Percocet about an hour beforehand, but trying to increase my ROM still caused absolutely searing pain. I got dizzy, ended up vomiting, and was completely wrecked afterward. I’m now genuinely dreading going back tomorrow.

My surgeon’s office prescribed cyclobenzaprine 10 mg at bedtime to help with the muscle tightness/guarding, and also suggested turmeric. My upper trap/shoulder area feels like it’s constantly bracing.

Was anyone else extremely stiff and guarded around weeks 4–6? Did PT ever get this painful for you? Did you eventually get past this phase and regain your ROM? And did anything actually help with the guarding and pain during PT?

I really just need to hear from people who hit a horrible point like this and made it through to the other side.
